Top location just on the lagoon! Nice atmosphere and really professional service. We had the coconut soup (the best I haver had) and we share 4 different dishes (pad thai with shrimps and chicken, salad with tuna, spring rolls). They were delicious as well but not at the same level of the soup. The place is a little bit expensive but worth to visit. read more

We visited this restaurant for dinner, since we'd read a lot of great reviews about this place. Our experience lived up to the expectation! Very unique and intimate ambience where each party is seated in an individual gazebo/palapa. Though they had limited number of vegetarian options, our waiter was helpful to suggest dishes that could be made vegetarian as well. Tom Yum soup was delicious! Our waiter, a patient elderly gentleman, was one of the highlights of our visit here. We commented how we liked a spicy sauce very much and he packed some of it to go. When we enquired about crocodiles in the nearby lagoon, he enthusiastically took us to the edge of the restaurant and flashed some light into the dark waters revealing a huge crocodile. He made our dinner here quite memorable. The restaurant is slightly on the pricier side, so save it for a special occasion. Definitely get a table close to the lagoon, so you have an exciting time spotting crocodiles. read more

This was a true gem to find in Cancun. Recommended by our concierge ... with a reservation in a palapa on the water ... we had a very romantic dinner to celebrate our 31st anniversary. While the spring rolls were a bit too fried for us, my wife's chicken and shrimp in a mildly spicy coconut curry sauce still has me salivating when I think of it. My grilled lobster tail with tamarind sauce was good ... not great ... but my wife's entree and the beautiful setting still keeps this as a 5 star ranking. It was so delicious we made return reservations for two nights later. A definite must if you like Thai. We were met by the friendly and inviting staff. The atmosphere is amazing. You can choose to sit on the water or in a garden setting Each table is in its own little hut making You feel as though you are in rainforest/ jungle.We were in the garden next to the water. The lighting creates a very one of a kind experience. The choices on the menu represent a true variety of the the Thai cuisine which they will make as mild or spicy as you like. Very cool restaurant! you feel like you're sitting in the rainforest and you can watch dolphins swimming from the bar. The menus were somewhat confusing because it is all electronic, kind of like an iPad. The service was also somewhat slow and they would forget to get our drinks, had to ask for wine twice and a bottle of water multiple times. read more

Little huts out on the lagoon, nice touch, but that is where it ends. Tall people beware, if you do not duck going into the huts, then you are going to crack your head open. Food, can this really be called food, it tasted old, as if it was the leftovers from the previous night, my friend had to spit out her food onto her napkin and when we called the waiter over to tell him about the bad food, he took the napkin and dumped the food in the lagoon, no wonder they are so many crocks in that area, free food. The manager was quickly called to our table, he stated that when he takes the food home at the end of the day, his family will not even eat it, says a lot for what you are putting in your mouth. He offered us a free desert. Our waiter on paying our bill was more interested on looking to see what tip he had earned than to say anything pleasant, he is lucky he got anything at all. Let's be clear. This is not an authentic Thai restaurant. The food is made by locals from the Cancun area. "Thai" is located in La Isla Shopping district on the lagoon. The whole idea of placing huts that you're seated in and on the lagoon is ingenious. Great ambience. The dishes that were ordered and prepared for us were mediocre, not exactly hot...but the part that was intolerable was their "fish sauce". It was rotted fish in oil. I'm sorry but was that explained to me? The dishes arrived, and the server placed a tiny bowl in what he called, "spices in oil with salt". I didn't think too much of it, but noticed a very strange, rotted garbage smell coming from in front of me. I thought perhaps it was the lagoon? To try the oil, I placed some on a small portion of my rice dish on the corner of my plate, not considering that the odor was from the little bowl was now on my food. I proceeded to eat it. It was probably one of the most disgusting flavors and smells I've ever tried, no joke, this isn't a troll, this is fact. I had to spit it all out into my cloth napkin, very much afraid that I would be so sick later. I told the server what had just happened. My friend watched, from his angle, the server throw the rotted fish oil and the spitted out food from my napkin into the lagoon! He then left and sought the manager to talk to me. The manager proceeded to explain that some people like it and some people don't, in fact, when he brings it home, his kids don't like it either---what??? Why would you serve something, not tell them what it is, and think it's ok to serve it to your customers? Not your best move. Honest, I love just about ALL food, including most of the more unusual, authentic ethnic dishes, but Andrew Zimmerman I am not. I'll stick to Thai from my neck of the woods....I gave "Thai" two stars because of it's design and architecture on the lagoon. Enjoy the view! read more

Thai was gorgeous space with good food. We were seated in a private, wall-less, screen-less, bamboo'ed, open-air dining 'room' that was standing directly above the water. The waiter sat us and immediately handed us a bottle of bug spray, which was troubling, but it turned out to be unnecessary. A couple drove their boat up to the dock and walked to their own table. As to the food, it was perfectly legitimate and good Thai food. The beef satay was fine, spring rolls fine, and the boneless chicken wings, which were glass-noodle stuffed angel wings, were also good. My dish, a spicy stir fried beef with shrimp, was indeed spicy and a generous portion - also tasty. The tom yum goong was good and the chicken green curry was standard good too. The pad thai was too sweet for my tastes and the worst of the dishes. On the way out we saw dolphins swimming behind a window at the bar. (There was an attached aquarium next door where we you can hear the cheers of the audiences watching shows.) Yes, that is sad if you think about it. read more

We've come here every year. Getting a private hut over the water while the sun sets is amazing. The food has gotten better every year. This year every dish was perfect. We had the spring rolls, num neua, and pla de pucket. (sp?) The wait staff has always been very nice and attentive. This year was the same. The ambience of this place is just lovely. The cliche is that it's part of a huge mall but once inside you're by the lagoon. This was one of our more expensive meals on this trip ($85 USD for two people without drinks) but the experience was pleasant. We were a little skeptical about having Thai food in Cancun but after days of Mexican fare we were looking for a change. We ordered very basic dishes as a result - tom kha gai soup, chicken in green curry sauce and pineapple fried rice with chicken and shrimp. The food was actually very good and tasted authentic. It did turn out to be a lot of food and we were super stuffed at the end of it. Our hostess was very nice and as we were being seated asked us if we saw the crocodile in the lagoon?! She flashed a torch into the water but we didn't see it. We still don't know if she was just messing with us but I kept looking for that crocodile all evening!! read more

Atmosphere is beautiful, close to the aquarium. They catered to our vegetarian tastes. Lagoon views. Numerous staff and excellent service. Sushi was the best I ever ate. Fried rice was aromatic, full of ginger, just delicious. Portions were like small appetizers. Paid $25 without drinks. Such a splendid environment. Thai is a great place to visit. We first went a few years ago and really enjoyed it. Well here we are again very cool atmosphere and great food. Chicken satay to start. Always must have the pad Thai but we order with Chicken they serve with spices on the side very good. Love the green curry as well. The staff is so friendly will continue to come back. read more

#32- a coconut milk soup with chicken and the #43- a green curry chicken were fantastic. I'm going to crave that soup now. Others at the table had pad Thai and said it was very good as well. The #42 beef in a peanut curry and spring rolls were also good. Everyone at our table thought the food was great. The atmosphere is amazing. We would definitely return! It's a bit expensive for Mexico, but it's worth it. Try and reserve a seat on the water if you go, but the other seats are really nice, too. The bar looks into the aquarium as well. read more
