After the traditional Christmas food at great excess we've really been getting into our Asian food…read moresince then - and upping the ante in terms of hot, hot, hot! It's with this in mind that with nothing left in our cupboards, Thai was most definitely on the brain in terms of an appealing fill - and it really did hit the spot! I ordered takeout and it took about 15 mins to be ready for collection (they will start delivering from end of Jan 2015 supposedly) and you get 10% off the price of food when taking away. The beef thai green curry was tasty if not as hot and spicy as I was hoping for (it did class itself as hot on the menu so I was expecting a real rip snorter as they say in cricket) and the vermicelli king prawn dish was tasty if not quite what we were expecting from the menu description (time to play spot a vegetable...) They threw in some thai prawn crackers (much better than Chinese ones) and in all 2 dishes and a portion of rice was £18 which was alright. Really hoping to get here again soon, maybe to eat in as there's seating for about 40. Friendly staff on the phone and the chef even brought out our takeaway which was a nice touch.

I used to live near this 'restaurant' (actually it is half of a pub) and it actually took me about…read more12 months to try it out as I thought how can a Thai meal be served well in a pub...I was chatting to a friend who said I must try it out. I was sceptical at first, expecting a microwaved meal. How wrong could I be!? We were told on a Tuesday it was curry night - 2 Thai curries with rice for £10. Not bad and not a lot to lose so we tried it out the next Tuesday. We were welcomed by a young man who was very pleasant and he said we can sit anywhere. It has a feel of a pub but this is not a bad thing for an informal bite to eat. The drinks order you have to place at the bar and pay separately as it is 2 separate businesses. This is a strange thing but it doesn't detract from the quality of the food. Also drinks prices are reasonable. The food was served to the table by a lovely woman with a massive smile. The smell as the doors opened from the kitchen was amazing. The presentation was excellent. We hardly spoke whilst eating, it was that good. The penang curry was nice and spicy but full of flavour and the massaman was nice and mild filled with chicken and potatoes. For £10 this place simply cannot be beat on a Tuesday! Even at full prices it is definitely worth it. If you are in early enough you can even get a seat ready for the evening entertainment on a Friday and Saturday which is good if you're into that sort of thing. Don't judge this place for how it looks from the outside as it is an excellent place which deserves to do well.

The Nipa Thai restaurant is part of the Barton Marina Complex and is quite a large spacious…read morerestaurant with high ceilings and magnificent decoration throughout; it even has a small waterfall running through the centre, which makes for a magnificent backdrop to an evening's dining. The restaurant could probably seat at least 70 people comfortably. They have a fixed price buffet lunch menu, and a sizeable menu in the evening, including set meals and a myriad of other dishes. There were 15 of us with varying tastes, so everybody chose independently, either with individual dishes or to go with the set meals - A,B,C or D or varying price, the cheapest being around £20 a head. They roughly went up a £5 per person as you ascended the alphabet, the latter two being for a minimum of 4 people. I however, shared Set Meal V with a colleague, the vegetarian set menu (£20.50 per person); I am no vegetarian by any means, but its always a good test of a restaurants credentials to see if their vegetarian food matches up to the rest of the menu. Lets just say I was most impressed! After perusing the menu and the waiter taking copious notes of our order, the starters arrived very promptly and thanks to some most impressive note making, everybody not only got the correct dish, they was also given directly to them, very impressive. Our mixed starter was a real triumph, won-tons, battered vegetables, vegetarian fritters was some of the highlights, all accompanied with a rather spicy fresh salad, resplendent with chilli seeds. A great start; other starters included spicy broths, chicken satay and a plentiful basket of won-tons in a potato bird's nest. All dishes on the menu had a guide to spiciness, one, two or three chillis, whilst most dishes had none. Some of our party were brave enough to try the three chillis, quite warm apparently! Our main courses, of which there were four as part of our very impressive set meal, were mixed vegetables in an oyster sauce (a good accompaniment to the other dishes), mushroom, cashews and vegetables in black bean type sauce, tofu in a the most wonderful sweet and sour sauce and spicy Thai green curry packed with crunchy vegetables. All fantastic dishes, but the tofu was a real highlight, the accompany sauce was wonderfully flavoursome. All washed down with a couple of bottles of Singha. What a great restaurant: attentive service, a relaxed atmosphere, good company and some of the best Thai food I've had for a long time.
