Recommended by the hotel and it's a three minute walk. Fast, fresh and a very good value. I tried calling and ordering online, but couldn't get through. The small restaurant is very clean. There was a long line and a short wait. There was one table that was full of diners and a counter that seated six. Six people were behind the counter packaging food, cooking, taking orders and serving. Everyone inside was so friendly, a man told me this is always 5 stars. I went to the corner of the counter and ordered a lemongrass shrimp sandwich and a beef pineapple with spring rolls. It came out to $14 and then I got on another line with my receipt and my number and waited to get called. My order was ready in five minutes. Everything was very fresh and tasty. Visiting Calgary from NYC and needed a quick lunch and was in the mood for Viet food, so found this place through a few TikTok recommendations. I had the Lemongrass Chicken Bahn Mi and it was delicious!! The chicken was so tender and juicy, baguette was toasted, and the combo of sauce and ingredients were all so well balanced. Ok, I use to go here 15 years ago when I worked downtown and I remember the prices back then. I saw an ad and could not believe their prices are the same still!! I ordered the Pineapple beef sub and shrimp salad rolls, my bill was less than $12!!! crazy! It was 4pm and it was busy, so my order took 20 minutes. The best food we had in all of Canada. We were visiting from the US. The small shop is not fancy but serves excellent Thai food. Lots of fresh vegetables in the dishes we had. Wow all of my food was amazing! I went 2 days in a row and service was great both days. The first time I went was a Friday at noon, and the line was out the door. It took about 10 minutes to get my order which I liked- I could tell the egg rolls were super fresh. This place is so busy!! Next time I would request extra meat to balance out the heavy ratio of cucumber. I appreciate the generous layers of pate, mayonnaise and butter, which I think is Thai Thien's strong suit. The best sub is the charbroiled pork ($6.25). The meat was seared on the outside and juicy on the inside. The ratio of meat to vegetable was perfect. The vegetables were fresh and crunchy. Small busy place close to the Fairmont Palliser. I really enjoy the food here,especially the subs and the service is friendly and fast. There's counter seating but it looks like there is a steady flow of regular takeout customers. It's not really a place for a sit down meal but if you are alone get a sub and sit at the counter. The staff were extremely friendly and working hard to get everyone's order out as quickly as possible while still delivering quality food. The sub is a bit disappointing. I ordered the lemon grass chicken sub and it was pretty dry. Just not enough sauce. The rating here is so high and I am not sure what went wrong. Well the portion is huge. Well, I mean the sub is quite long. There are no seats here. I mean there are stool bar seats that faces the wall. What is it about Thai Tai that always sucks me in as I walk past with every intention of eating a home? Maybe it's that their quality is consistent all the time. Or the fact that it delicious. Or that even though you wait a little it means no one is microwaving your meal at the back. Or that the combination of bubble teas is endless even though I always end up choosing the same one. Maybe its all of those things. I am a sucker for the lemon grass chicken sub - with hoisin sauce please and thanks. Love that the toppings are always fresh and crunch and you can choose what you want depending on the day. The spring rolls are delicious, just remember to ask for the veggie ones if that's what you want cause meat spring rolls are the default order. I always ask for extra hoisin to go with them and never an issue to grab me some. Bubble tea options for me always end up with a combo of watermelon and lychee with no bubbles. Its so good! And think it is the best cure from the terrible decisions you made at the bar the night before. I always go sans bubbles - not a fan of tapioca - but you have your choice of bubbles or flavored jelly too. Service is always quick, efficient and friendly. This is the last remaining Thai Tai in downtown after the one in Chinatown closed. It's my favourite Vietnamese sub hands down. I rarely get to this area of downtown, but I've been fortunate enough to be nearby twice in the last two weeks! Chicken Sate is all I ever get cuz I love it too much to ever order anything else. Fantastic baguettes - soft yet crusty, dense enough to support the toppings while still being light.
