The liver doctor at hospital gave him a year to live. After he was released we were traveling to a doctor in San Gabriel which was quite a distance since my parents live in Lakewood, Ca. After searching the internet I came across Dr. Mankal in Los Alamitos and when I say he has been an absolute God send, I mean it!!!! While my father's condition is not without its issues, Dr. Mankal has been amazing. His bedside manner is incredible, he is patient and extremely knowledgeable and best of all my father is still with us, 4 years after the liver doctor at the hospital wrote him off. I also love the portal and usually get answers to questions or requests for meds within 24 hours. I hesitate to post this review because I worry Dr. Mankal will be swamped with new patients but then I think of others facing these types of challenges and needing quality care and feel compelled to share. We also love Angela, his front office lady, she is wonderful as well! I strongly recommend Dr, Mankal and Angela!!!!!

After filling out the online forms and submitting them via email, I was able to call the office and have someone on the phone to help with questions. Super nice and patient staff members! They also responded to my patient forms same-day, and my first appointment was scheduled within a week. Appointments The patient portal and ability to use televisits is really convenient. I am not a tech-savvy person, and I was able to setup my account online, pay online, and virtually meet Dr. Mankal in a televisit. Patient Care Dr. Mankal listened to all my concerns and was able to describe what was happening in a way I could easily understand. He prescribed clear directions for next steps, and a prognosis. I really appreciated how clear and attentive he was.

I had the chance to see Dr. Trivedi once when Dr. H was unavailable, and I was so impressed by his bedside manner that I requested to switch to him as my gastroenterologist. However, my request was denied after Dr. H's input citing that patients can't switch doctors within the practice. Their secretary staff are at least quick to comply with sending over medical records to my new gastroenterologist or other doctor's that may need my medical summary history performed by Dr. H. If you have the option, I highly recommend seeing Dr. Trivedi. My mother sees him, and two other doctors I know absolutely adore him as well. The day of my appointment I had difficulty finding the location and Emma patiently and kindly helped me first with my anxiety over being late and later with figuring out how I could still see the Dr. when I ended up finally locating the facility and being extremely late. The Dr. was also lovely and friendly and very kind to me about being so late. He spent as much time with me as I needed to understand my condition even though he had every right to have not seen me that day at all (since I was so late). On a follow up visit one of the staff members was more accommodating and another one was talking to me about seeking another expert opinion outside of Dr. Chen since his diagnosis didn't make much sense. There are multiple things I was not fond of when it came to his practice and overall a bad experience for my first time seeing a specialist in his field. 1) even with insurance his prices aren't cheap and for the quality of service you receive it's not worth your money 2) he prescribed me a medicine that caused me to have horrific side effects and after telling him that sent me to the ER midnight for ten hours he didn't have any comment to make. The medication doesn't target abdominal pain so why would he want me to do that after repeated mentions of side effects? Regardless I entertained it for five days and felt awful, I couldn't function at all and immediately stopped using it. I've been better since. . How does that work? On top of that he walked out mid-sentence when I was bringing up how I waited over an hour to be seen when I was on time for my appointment and he had no answer or advice to give while just saying "I'll book you for a month out for now with a revisit" What?? I was initially referred to Dr. Konyalian by my primary care provider, and the whole experience was great. The entire process was efficient, the office staff was great, Dr. Konyalian explained everything in detail, and the surgery and recovery was practically a breeze. I have had a number of surgical procedures over my lifetime (mostly for broken bones), and this was much easier than most.
