There is no fishy smell, no slimy looking fillets or shellfish, just your briny smell of the ocean and the bounty that came from the sea. While the offerings can be seasonal, the gulf produces some standard things that will always be there: salmon, ahi, and yellowtail are sashimi grade and looked amazing. I was there for shrimp and you can get damn-near tiger sized gulf shrimp for the price the large grocers carry. No contest there. They also have things you don't typically see around here (fresh) - mahi, snapper, seabass, etc... the quality stands on its own here and the owners are a pure joy to talk with about their offerings. Almost immediately, the teller confronted us in a way that felt unnecessary insisting that she could not eat the apple inside the store. The manner in which this was handled felt far beyond a simple policy reminder--it felt uncomfortable. As an African-American family, the interaction left us feeling singled out and disrespected in a place we had previously felt welcome. No customer should be made to feel this way--especially in a business we've supported repeatedly. Based on this experience, I would strongly caution others, particularly African-American families, to think twice before visiting this location.
