I like to look down on people who look down on things and it's with no small amount of humility that I confess to sitting at the new Grimaldis eating pizza with my wife laughing at the restaurant across the street called Chuck's Fish. We'd never heard of it and having recently returned from the gulf I was feeling rather smug about seafood. What could this Chuck know about it all? Feeling adventurous, we decided to walk over and check it out after eating an entire pizza. Pizza was pretty good. Chuck's Fish was epic. I love that there's no TV at the bar. I love the decor. I love the fact that the namesake was a civil rights attorney. I love the fact that I can get incredible sashimi and order our daughter a pizza that is just as good as the joint across the street. Chuck I apologize. I promised the bar staff I'd Yelp you up after the first visit but once bitten twice shy so I gave it another go. I'm at your bar now. Trudy is helping me out. She's a pro. So was the team here on Saturday. That's why I'm back in fact. The people. Also. The food. Can go on about the food. But. Y'all. Just come and experience it. This social media stuff is only good for so much. A nudge. A hint. An inkling. Hamachi ponzu with fresh jalapeño. Yes. Get that. Goyza with one perfectly crisped side? Yeah. Two of those. I had a wonderful dinner here celebrating my boyfriend's promotion at work. Chuck's is a beautiful low lit restaurant, with a calm yet upscale atmosphere. The decor in here is absolutely beautiful. Our server Stephanie was the sweetest ever. She gave us recommendations and helped us navigate choices on the menu. I opted for a glass of their rosé while he got their old fashioned, wasn't his favorite since they did not have Buffalo Trace. He's not a fan of Bulleit. However he was alright with it. We got the Cowboy sushi roll and snapper necks as appetizers. Both very flavorful and cooked well. Having Louisiana hot sauce was the icing on the cake for him. Entrees we got were both mainly red snapper, he got it Parmesan crusted and I went for bronzed because it came with mango salsa over rice pilaf. He had risotto. Both dishes were very good, however they definitely could have benefited from a bit more salt (in our opinion). Green beans were cooked extremely well. We both cleaned our plates! As for desserts I went for the bread pudding and he opted for the creme brûlée since he had never had any. Bread pudding was absolutely immaculate and I'm glad Steph talked me into adding ice cream. He wished he had gotten my dessert after trying it but his creme brûlée was still pretty decent. Not a big custard guy. Overall this was a great experience and to help others gauge their bill, we spend a little under $200 before the tip. Not extremely cheap but not overly expensive. My wife and I really enjoyed our dinner. As we often do in a new place, we had a couple of appetizers and a couple of entrées with the full intention of carrying food home. We had to try the snapper throats and the kimchi Brussels. Both were excellent. She opted for the red snapper with artichoke hearts, and I had the chorizo and shrimp rigatoni. We could've fed both of us on either entrée but brought food home instead. The menu is quite large, so I see this becoming a common date night destination. I wouldn't normally include this in a restaurant review, but the restrooms are remarkably small given the size of the venue. Given the popularity, I recommend reservations. Another night another venture out to dinner with my coworker. This time the quest was for fish so off to Chuck's Fish! We fought the traffic amazing how traveling just 4.5 miles from your hotel takes well over 25 minutes. Huntsville has definitely exploded. We loved the decor and high ceilings very cool. As someone else mentioned in a review very cool to see the bar, sushi area and the cooking taking place in plain sight. We got there at 6:00 and by the time we left the place was crowded. Our server was great. She knew the menu and gave us great advice. My coworker ordered a rosemary old fashioned and I went with a local amber beer. For dinner, I opted for the grilled redfish over rice pilaf which comes with a creamy peppercorn sauce. My coworker went for the red snapper with artichoke hearts. We enjoyed the dishes. My fish was seasoned nicely and the rich cream sauce made me feel guilty but boy was it good. I thought both our portions were sizable. I was surprised that the redfish was $38... but like we all know everything has gone up! We both were stuffed and had no room for dessert. Loved the atmosphere and loved the food. I spend a lot of time in Florida and the Grouper Piccata was amazing. Wonderful flavor, but I vote for the rice. The potatoes are great, but rice is a better pairing. We sat outside for a family birthday. Wonderful menu and attentive helpful service. I highly recommend it. My one complaint is the 2-3% Cliff Farm development fee, but that isn't their fault. Why exactly are we paying this? Definitely give them a try. You won't regret it. read more

Another win for Madison--with a few disclaimers. I first attempted to visit Chuck's Fish a couple of weeks ago with my daughter, but we were turned away due to their internal practice of hosting a "friends and family night." Since our names weren't on the list, we had to make other plans and ended up at Stoney Grill, where we had a five-star experience. Fast forward to tonight--my daughter wanted seafood, and despite my initial hesitation (I didn't want seafood tonight), we decided to give Chuck's another shot. I'm glad we did. The restaurant has a cozy and unique atmosphere. The lighting is somewhat dim, and the walls are a bit cluttered with abstract art, giving it some distinct character. One of the highlights is the story of Chuck and his connection to some of our state's most pivotal civil rights moments--you can read about it on the menu when you visit. Chuck is or was a good man, even if we was an attorney. Now, on to the food. My daughter, who is notoriously picky, loved the Seafood Gumbo--so much so that she had two servings. Then she moved on to sushi. Then grouper. Every dish got top marks from her. As for me, I opted for pizza, which turned out to be phenomenal. Just a note: the "hot" in the Hot Homey Pizza description refers to heated honey, not spiciness--a great touch. Service started off slow after we were seated, testing my patience a bit. But once our server arrived, she was attentive and on top of things, making up for the wait. Normally, I like to give a place a few visits before reviewing, but this was an easy five stars in spite of the wait. Just keep in mind--Chuck's Fish isn't the place to come if you're in a hurry, and it's probably not ideal if you're watching your budget the day before payday. But if you're looking for great seafood in Madison, this spot is definitely worth a visit. I expect the service will only get better from here. read more

Diverse menu with anything from fish entrees - sushi - pizzas and steak. Appetizers: $24 for poke nachos, can get them for less else where, however they were a fairly large portion with fresh tuna. Just not worth the $24 to me. Entrees: stuffed grouper special, served with jalapeño cheddar grits and asparagus. Very delicious buttery and served with a grilled lemon! Husband ordered the artichoke red snapper with risotto. I must say the risotto was better than the grits! Just ooey gooey perfection. Once again buttery flaky fish with the perfect sides. Topped with sautéed artichoke hearts. They have secret menu items, mainly sushi, (be sure to ask about them, because our waitress didn't inform everyone)! I have to begin this review with AMBIANCE it was so beautiful ( reminds me of Bravo) The lighting and interior touches create a space of love for your whole family or significant other. The service was good. We were kindly seated and served promptly with respect. A few at our table ordered cocktails to begin. The margarita was served in a tall glass ( i prefer short) and was wayy too sour as if the fresh made sour had gone bad lime went bitter. This restaurant is a HUGE upgrade for Madison! The interior is amazing with its open floor space, nice low music and no TV in sight. I love being able to see into the kitchen. Our server was Sara and she was fantastic. Great recommendations, very friendly and attentive. Now for the menu, which was a little surprising. Of course they have amazing fish selections. They also have a great selection of Sushi and even pizza, that looked wood fired. The bar seemed a little limited. Kinda disappointed that there wasn't any NA beer. Our dinners were fantastic. I had the Grouper Piccata and a Cesar salad. My wife had the Parmesan Crusted Cobia and a Cesar Salad. Please don't walk in on a weekend night and expect to be seated right away. FYI: Excessive "Development Fee" gets charged to every tab and it's over double your tax!!!!!!!!! Wow, this is one of the biggest disappointments! First of all, walking in it's super loud. It's one big room. The lighting is very dark, I think to hide the food! Our server was Kasey. He seemed super unwilling to take our order like he was stalling. We finally put in our order and it took 30 minutes to get a sushi roll and a Caesar salad. People that came in after us got food before us. We waited an hour to get our steak. The steak came out pink and super rare even though we asked for medium. Servers and food runners were more interested in talking than they were serving. We were facing the kitchen, so I could see all the goofing around that was happening! It was an absolute clown show. It wasn't even busy when we were there. Got the receipt and they definitely add stuff to the receipt that you didn't order so definitely check your receipt. It was a total waste of an hour and had to get food elsewhere. This business creates fake reviews and you can tell because the profiles will have only 1 review giving this place 5 stars. This is a very shady and dishonest establishment. Grouper was very over cooked, hard to cut apart, had a good flavor, but stringy and tough. Fried potato cake must not have been our thing, that was gross, deep fried then doused until soggy. This was my second time at Chuck's and it was delicious like before, but a small issue with the service. The food was amazing. I started with the calamari and the gumbo and they were both 10/10! For my entree I ordered the red snapper bronzed... and while it was delicious my order wasn't correct. They gave me the incorrect sides. They brought out my correct sides and all was right. The service was good, except when I tried to tell the food runner that my order was incorrect, he told me it was correct. I had to wait for my amazing server to return to get the issue resolved. I wanted so much to love this place. Huntsville and Madison really need a good seafood place that can make something other than deep fried catfish or shrimp. So we made the painful drive out 72 from HSV on a Friday night to meet friends for dinner. Reservations were seamless on Resy and our table was ready when we arrived. Server was friendly and attentive. We ordered the fried shrimp appetizer and a bottle of wine while we pondered the menu. The wine was served promptly but the app took 20 min or so to come out. It was ok as we were in no hurry but seemed slow. All of us ordered the fish entrees - snapper, redfish and grouper. The snapper was "bronzed" which supposedly was Cajun style but really just pan fried with little seasoning. It was dry and a bit tough. The mango salsa and risotto were tasty but not great. Similar experience with the grouper- a thick cut but apparently overcooked and a bit dry. At $40 a plate these entrees were underwhelming at an upscale fish restaurant. Disappointed in the value. Probably won't return for a couple years hoping they improve their kitchen staff. read more

My husband and I went here for the first time to celebrate our anniversary. Unfortunately, it was a disappointing experience and I don't believe we will be back. The service was stellar, our Uptown Shrimp appetizer was phenomenal as was the orange cheesecake. The problem was with the meals. My husband ordered the 14oz ribeye. It was cooked as ordered but didn't seem to have been seasoned at all. It was just a slab of meat on the plate. My husband doused it in pepper just to make it have any flavor. In our years together, I had never seen him do that. Also, there was no substitute for the asparagus other than a vegetable medley, which sounded gross. He stayed with the asparagus even though he doesn't care for them. His mashed potatoes were so over mashed they were nearly liquified, with some chunks remaining. Unappetizing. Lastly, the drinks. We ordered dirty martinis. They were served in very small glasses. A far cry from the superior ones at J. Alexander's. The total was $240 before the tip. Not worth the price at all. read more

"Just OK" food if you like paying too much . My wife and I tried out Chuck's last weekend with another couple. We had a reservation and had to adjust it due to our previous activity running longer than planned. Our original reservation was for 8:45 PM and we arrived at 8:52 pm. My wife had adjusted the reservation online to 9pm . The young man acting as host at the front , remarked "Well, I was about to cancel your reservation!" To which my wife responded " Why , 1) we are within 10 minutes of our original time and 2) I updated our reservation for 9pm , so why would you cancel?" To which he replied, " Ohhh....i see that now". No apology He then disappeared without further word to assumably find a suitable table for 4. Meanwhile the restaurant was half empty??? He came back after messing with a few tables and we were seated by the other host who appeared while the 1st host was running around. The dark room ambiance is nice alternative to mostly bright and loud options in Madison and Huntsville. The decor was eclectic including a dozen candelabra style chandeliers. Our waitress was wonderful, she did a great job taking care of us, that's the only shining part of our experience. The food was subpar for the price point .( period ) Since we were coming from a cocktail even that had run longer than planned, we were all starving . I ordered the Supreme pizza. It was a 10" pizza with good toppings, but undercooked. $25 ????? A fair price would have been $15 for what was delivered to our table. My wife ordered the Parmesan Grouper. What a mistake that was . Of course the menu doesn't list the price , it has the cute " MP " for Market Price that dishonest "Seafood" restaurants like to use so they don't have to have boards with fish prices for their customers to see. Honestly , Grouper doesn't fluctuate that much, not like Crabs or Shrimp. $43 was the price for 4 oz of overcooked grouper on a bed of undercooked, flavorless mealy substance that the restaurant claims to call risotto. Sorry , we know real Seafood from the Mid-Atlantic Coast and South Florida . This ain't seafood, it's a Ponzi scheme. Do yourself a favor and support local seafood companies and cook the fish yourself, the experience at Chuck's can't make up for small portions and overcooked entrees . We're moving on.... read more
