Next thing I know he comes marching over, stands about six feet away and very obviously starts watching me shop. It was humiliating. Especially with me being 1) in my late 30s, not some punk teenager and 2) a person of color. I felt singled out and degraded.

Service outside of the lady at the jewelry counter was terrible. The store was an absolute mess needing massive recovery and the carpets looked like they haven't been cleaned in a long time. Not even vacuuming them. Belk is such a great company and the need to invest more payroll and attention to cleanliness and service at this store. I really appreciate the customer service from the lady in jewelry she was so nice and very helpful. The store environment was dreadfully hot, understaffed and poorly managed.

When I initially walked into the store, I saw two sales associates folding clothes. Neither associate said hello or welcomed me to "The Gap" which really made me want to turn around and leave. Instead of leaving, I decided to continue on to the back where near the children section. Having to pass by an associate to get there, I was sure someone would speak--still no one said a word. Could I have spoken? Sure, but this is about good customer service (and providing fellow yelpers/people in the area about a business) and there doesn't seem to be much of that in many places I've gone to so far in KY. I shopped for kids clothing and finally came to a point where I had to ask for assistance since none was offered. I said, "Excuse, could you find out if you have this cardigan in 2T cardigan" to one of the sales associates....To make a long story short--the store associate never came back to let me know whether or not they had what I was looking for in a different size and I knew at that point I would never return to the Gap ever again. The cashier at the register was efficient and nice, but the other employees weren't as helpful. I actually saw the sales associate walk back onto the floor but she never came to inform me of the product I requested so I'll just assume her walking back on the floor means, "NO we don't have the size you requested!" I spent over $170 that day for my kids and I guess its true what people say, "You should never say never!" My son, unfortunately cannot fit some of the items I purchased, so I have to take them back for an exchange. I certainly hope that I have something different to report on my 2nd and final trip. You certainly do not have to take my word for it....go check them out yourself. Hopefully you'll have a better experience than I did. I always frequent the kids clearance area to look for deals for my kids as they grow so fast so why pay full price for something when you can get a deep discount especially if they will outgrow it in a few months (if we are lucky). My mother was looking for cruise attire, and she found a few pieces from the large selection that were available. It was easy to find pieces that could possibly be worn together as an outfit since the clothes were grouped together by coordinating patterns or style. Both employees were pleasant. One in particular was very helpful with helping us search for items on the website since the size my mother needed was not available in store. And since we choose ship to store, since it's free to ship to the store, we will definitely be going back to pick up the items. But, I also think my mother will be a frequent shopper since the prices are reasonable and they styles are fashionable.
