I Didn't Think a Personal Trainer Was for Me:
I played sports in high school and since then I've regularly worked out. I also currently play in two competitive recreational sports leagues each weekend. Because I already have an athletic build and am in above average shape, the thought of using a personal trainer never crossed my mind. Further, I know my way around the equipment at the gym well, have my own routines, and also regularly follow the P90X3 and Insanity videos and the work out schedule in those programs. Essentially, I couldn't see what value a personal trainer could create for me that would be worth the fee. I thought their main benefit was motivation and adherence to a plan. And, I already was very disciplined, working out 4 to 5 days a week for 40 minutes to 1.5 hours at a time.
Why I Tried Level One:
I tried Level one Fitness and Training after I took a four week break from the gym due to illness that was immediately followed by a long vacation to Peru. Since I broke my strict adherence to my workout routine, which I followed almost religiously without thinking, I was more open minded when the Level One email came to my inbox. Because my regular routine was tough and I almost dreaded the uphill battle it would take to get back to the tip-top state I was in, I decided to try the online program out.* I figured I'd get a personalized plan from a trainer who could help me adhere to sticking to little steps to get back to where I was because I tend to try to pick up from where I left off (an approach that I know doesn't work well but feels right when I step into the gym). What I ended up getting from Level One was so much more and so totally worth it.
* Also, because I previously followed the same routines, doing them over and over again, my exercises weren't less effective due to muscle memory. I admittedly knew this and that's partly what made using those routines to try to get back to where I was more daunting.
What I got from Level One:
The online training program exceeded my expectations for the following reasons: 1) I got customized work-out plans each day. 2) The workouts were designed to specifically boost me in areas that mattered to me (i.e. posture, athletic agility, performance, strength training, etc.). 3) Most of my goals were not focused on by the P90x3 or Insanity videos I followed. 4) The Level One workouts took half of the time that my regular work outs took and because the exercises in them were designed to have higher returns on energy investment I got more results from working out less. 4) I felt results and gains right away (within the first 3 days) because I was working smarter and specifically targeting the right muscle groups rather than working hard.
Why I Recommend Level One for In Shape People:
I was blown away by what I got. Because I got the same results as my old routine in half of the time, I had more time to work on my business and if I did want to stay in the gym for 1.5 hours, I could do exercises that would get me 3 times the results I would've been able to achieve on my own. In hindsight, I realize now that before Level One I was overworking the same muscle groups, exhausting the muscles and so in the end my work outs primarily equated to cardio. But, I was not feeling the exceptional boost in performance, strength, or agility that I really wanted. After level one, I realized much bigger gains by because I was doing new muscle exercises that worked out 2 to 3 times as many muscle groups at the same time.
Because of the results, ease, and intelligence of this way of working (not to mention the additional time I have now each day), I can't go back to my old way of working the gym. :) read more
