It's still hard to believe what was said to me as a customer today (who has been pretty dam understanding about the situation all things considered). Apparently there was some miscommunication about where I needed to wait for service to get performed. I had been waiting in my truck, and periodically checking on the work by walking to the boat to see how things were going. Richie seemed totally cool with it. Then, an older gentleman whom I'd never met before started yelling at me to get into the waiting room. I'm sitting there thinking... who is this? Richie was just right here saying it was all good? To be fair, I did give some push back about the manner in which he was speaking to me, but I don't care who you are or what you own, there is no need to talk to ANYONE like this, let alone a customer who just spend $25k on a BRAND NEW BOAT 4 weeks ago. Here are some actual quotes from who I soon found out was the actual owner: "Get the f*ck in the room right now" "You're the type of person who didn't listen to his daddy growing up" "Oh you don't like it when I swear at you? Let me spell it out for you F-*-C-K-I-N G" "You would be the FIRST PERSON TO GET SHOT if you were in the service" I am still flabbergasted that this happened this morning. I even went back in after the yelling match hoping to meet half way and come to some sort of understanding and leave on good terms... But nope, 0 apologies, more swearing, really just not cool. Needless to say, I urge you to STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY - even though Richie was professional and pleasant pretty much the whole way through. well it is now 1/17/2025 i had to buy a new gas sensor (have receipts) works great and rmp gauge. was charged for hours for them to work on them and they knew they should have been replaced but did not do that. Took my boat to a different mechanic show them wires that they're said those wires did not look like they came from my motor.so i try to fight the payment that they took which they took out of my account within seconds of me swiping the card no time to see if anything was fixed so they told the bank my boat was old and the motor should be replaced (funny they told me that it was in good shape and should be able to fix it.)(they even offered me a trade in it still have on my text) i think that why they didn't fix it i know the seats need repositing and rug needs some work but i spend a lot of money about $1200 a year on preventative maintenance on the motor have receipts for the last several year so like i said they lie. stay tuned for the next one I'm l talk to you tubers to go live from location. read more

Friend of mine purchased a used boat from these guys and told them to put on HDS live units. He drove over 500 miles to what he thought was a great deal. Got there and realized they screwed him over. Instead of lives they installed carbons. Shady dealer with zero integrity. I bought a used boat for $25,000 from Thayer's Marine in December and it has turned out to be an ABSOLUTE NIGHTMARE. I was told that everything on the boat was in good working order which was 100% false. Here is a list of what's wrong with it: Burned up power head - $7200 to repair Broken HDS 12 - $1200 to replace (with discount from Lowrance otherwise would be $2000) Broken trailer jack - $200 Both trailer fenders about to fall off - $2600 to replace. Electrical issues yet to be diagnosed. Broken locks on the cabinets - $50 each. When I called to inquire about these issues, Richie told me that everything was in good working order when it left his lot. Am I really supposed to believe that all of these issues suddenly happened while the boat was being shipped to me? Don't ever trust a word these guys say. My best advice is to avoid Thayer's Marine like the plague. read more

I bought a Ranger bass boat from these guys 6 months ago. Immediately before ever even putting it in the water I had found leaks in the steering. They fixed it half price which was cool. Now I have the boat home for a few months. I've used it 6 times!!!! I need a new powerhead, carbs cleaned, VRO pump (oil injection) and other minor engine work with a quote from another shop of just over $7,000. These guys suck! Was awful service they had the boat for over a month and broke the tail light on the trailer and didn't strap it down after they took it out of the water the took a chip out of the fiberglass on the seat and whoever it was that helped us wanted to believe the mechanic that would say that he didn't drop anything on it and then they expect us to come back there to get it winterized I don't think so and then he had the nerve to get loud with me and my grandfather in that store I don't think so how unprofessional and we were so posed to have the fluids changed as well but we put that off because we wanted our boat back they also lost the plug some how I think if you gave a monkey a wrench it could have gotten done faster better and not decided to get loud with me and my grandfather read more

I purchased a brand new boat for 60k from this dealer in 2020. The only thing they did well was "smile" when signing the paperwork for my purchase. Since then they have been nothing but useless, and I will never refer another boat owner to Thayer. They are severely understaffed, they act like you are an inconvenience when you are there, and never keep promises or return a call or email. Bottom line, they have the "sales" down, but have no interest in treating their customers with any respect or decency. Disappointed is an understatement. read more

I would like to share my experience with Thayer marine in Norwich Ct. I initially went to Thayer to get a diagnostic on the engine which i was assured that would be in 1 to 1 & 1/2 weeks. My initial concern was to assess if the engine was worth repairing. I called after 2 weeks and i was told he just looked at it and it needs needle valve. I asked if she was sure, she said her tech was 31 years in the biz and he was great! At 3 plus weeks i got no call backs as promised and had to speak with management, i was put off another full week with no callbacks as promised, so i called that evening and was told a lot of things and there focus was not on the initial reason i brought the engine in, it was of other things about the boat that i was working on but had not finished, i had to pry it out of them about the engine, which i never got a clear response but determined the engine had internal issues at least that was my assumption from her responses. They were more concerned about hose clamps and such. I was concerned about the engines health and started looking for an engine right after bring it in and had several options of new engines at a reasonable price but as you can guess they all were sold after 4 weeks of waiting for the so called experts to evaluate my engine. I am now out at least 3k in the difference in pricing because of the extended wait. In the end all I expected was honesty and integrity from them but what i feel i got was lies and deception. I feel they just want to fill the shop with work and will tell you anything to achieve that. I did a response on google and the owner responded with inaccurate numbers and changed initial scope of the reason i brought it in. This shows me the issue goes right to the management level and is not just at the employee level. Unless the employees are lying to management which is unacceptable to me. If it is not that and the owner is lying to me that is worse and is not acceptable to me. Unhappy customer read more

I have been buying boat parts from Thayer's Marine for about 15 years. I really like Thayer's Marine. Richie Thayer, the parts manager and one of the owners is really excellent and knowledgeable. They know what they are doing and are really helpful when I have questions. If Richie doesn't have an answer, he takes the time to go the the service manager and get me the right answer. They usually have almost anything I need in stock for a Johnson Out Board and if it isn't in stock they usually can get it the next day. I've purchased 2 boats from these folks in the past 12 years and it didn't matter if it was new or used. I have been treated fairly both times and every visit in between. yes, in the heat of the season if something breaks, your gonna wait a couple weeks at least just like anywhere else. Product selection is good as far as boats and parts. I'd like them to build a bigger tackle shop but that's minor. Boat repair labor is high wherever you go but these guys know boats and all motors. I brought my boat and motor to them to work on a 1975 Evinrude motor, 25 horse that I just purchased and needed them to get the motor running. After 4 weeks and several calls to the service department and spoke to Jen who told me that they looked at the motor and found the compression at 135 on the top and 150 on the bottom and that I had intermittent spark and they needed to look into that first. I know I had spark and unless it was running how could they tell that it was intermittent. I gave them the authorization for two more hours to look into it and after two more weeks they still hadn't looked at it and because I didn't buy any boat and or motor from them the service they deliver to me was the worst any customer could encounter. I brought the boat home and I did my own compression test and it wasn't even close to what they said. I will probably buy a new motor and controls But I will never do anything with Thayers Marine again as far as I'm concerned they ripped me off of $152 and did absolutely nothing and lied about it all.
