During my long appointment she did highlights and lowlights, with a gloss treatment, always checking with the owner on colors and timing. They were both concerned about getting it just right. I wish I'd taken a before pic as they nailed it! My hair felt soft, healthy and the color was perfect. I only need to go in every 6 weeks or so now, and I am so happy. I specifically made my appointment 9 days in advance because I was attending a wedding and needed a guaranteed time slot for a blowout. When booking, I clearly repeated the correct Saturday three separate times, yet the appointment was still scheduled for the wrong date. I understand mistakes happen, so as soon as I received the confirmation text with the incorrect date, I immediately called to have it corrected. The receptionist assured me it would be fixed. Several days later, I then received a text from the stylist saying my appointment had been canceled and asking if I wanted to book another one. I replied right away explaining that I had never canceled my appointment. Since I received no response, I decided to call myself because the last thing I wanted was to be left without service on the day of the wedding. Madison, the stylist, told me that I had originally been booked on the wrong date and that the time I requested was no longer available. She offered me a different time, but that was extremely frustrating since my entire day had already been planned around the original appointment. I then asked to be booked with another stylist at the time I needed. She promised to get back to me -- but never did. No one followed up, no one fixed the mistake, and no one even apologized for the inconvenience. The complete lack of communication and accountability was incredibly disappointing and unacceptable from a customer service standpoint.

Enter Spruce: I called and they were very accommodating (open on Saturdays!). I ended up with a Saturday appointment with Christine. I arrived for that appointment today, and was pleasantly surprised by the cute, updated interior of this house-turned-nail-salon-then-salon. Christine is cool, fashionable (not like it matters, but always admire a sense of style), super friendly, providing great conversation along with an excellent client experience. She offered me goodies/cookies, a variety of yummy beverages, and reading materials throughout-- just super nice and generous. I opted for a "curly cut" (Christine has a DevaCurl certification), which is a dry cut aiming to enhance waves/curls. Not only did she do a really wonderful job with my cut-- it's visibly so much healthier and has more volume-- she also did a wonderful job with the color that I opted for, giving me a rich brunette color that will be great for Fall and Winter. She was also accommodating enough to give me an impromptu (and perfect) brow wax when I realized it'd save me a trip to have it done there. I like my brows to be thick but even, and have some anxiety around this as I've had providers ignore my wishes and give me super thin brows in the past. She truly listened to what I wanted, and cleaned them up quickly and pretty painlessly (gotta love a gentle waxer!). As she washed the color out of my hair, she began to share with me exactly the products and techniques that she was using to enhance my natural curl, giving tips that would never have occurred to me. She gave me in depth instructions to style my hair exactly as she had, answering my questions and going really above and beyond. She shared products that she was using and why, but was never pushy or "sales-y" about it. Honestly, I actually liked what she used, so I'll go back to pick up a thing or two when I work through some of the products that I already have/like. I usually leave the salon joking about how "I'm going to enjoy it tonight, because it'll never look this good again!"-- but with Christine's guidance and literal hands-on instruction in styling my hair, I actually feel pretty darn confident that I can do her cut justice.

Get this: if you are overstimmi and can't take any more small talk, there is a sign that you switch to "silent" and you'll get a silent, Zen haircut. Speaking of Zen, Betty, the "Salon dog", is a chill companion who watches over the shop.

I was in desperate need for a hairdresser since 2020 when the pandemic started. That was the year I…read moremoved to the local area. I tried some different places, but I was not loving the outcome. My hair just looked sadder and sadder with each attempt. I thought I was doomed to box color to hide the grays, and cut my own hair in my bathroom. Then one day while I was at work, I met a really kind woman who also happened to have incredible hair. I had to know the hair genius who crafted her hairstyle, for my hair was still crying. This incredibly kind woman not only gave me the name of this hair genius-She took us out to brunch so we could finally meet! Aubree has truly been an answer to my prayers! Not only is she anointed for hair miracles, which was also a much needed catalyst for the major upward spiral that took place in my life after God worked through her to help me regain my confidence to look and feel like a better version of myself again (the hair has never looked better)- she is also genuinely kind, trustworthy, brilliant, amazing, respectable and inspiring woman who I am blessed to call a friend. I asked around, and my co-worker recommended Genesis, as she is currently a client there. An appointment was made in just a few days for me, with a new gal named Sabel. *PAUSE ON STORY * I have been to salons in LA, Austin, TX, had stylists from New York & been to the "fancy salons" in SLO, so I feel I'm kinda picky. Always walked away from each experience happy, satisfied, but never WOWED... ** ' That all changed today!! When I arrived at the salon, I was greeted by a cute, friendly gal that ended up being Miss Sabel. I was quickly taken to her station, where she & I began the banter of "what I want" vs. "what is realistic"... She completely took my butchered, haphazard explanation of desired color & ran with it & I walked away feeling like she read my mind!! Actually, I don't think I could have explained it!! She was thorough, took her time, and made sure that I was happy with the direction we were headed. She took my 2 toned reddish-copper w a few random blonde highlights to a completely different level of color & expectation. I now have a multi-faceted, richly hued combination of reds, that cohesively blend & compliment the varying caramel & strawberry blonde highlights she put in. My hair looks & feels so much healthier than when I went in because of the deep conditioning treatment I was given. Not to mention the AMAZING straightener she used!!! All in all, I left amazed at the professionalism I encountered. Sabel is a delight to "work" with & I will GLADLY refer her & the Genesis salon to many friends & family!!
