Strengths: They are really nice They always had some assignments for me to do They let you choose which assignments you want to accept They will sometimes call you to see how you felt about a job The Pay is above minimum wage Most of the employees I worked with on assignments were hard workers THEY FOUND ME A JOB There are others I just can't think of anything else Weaknesses: You have a limited amount of time to accept a job (this makes sense because they have to find someone) so if you are indecisive, you may lose out on an opportunity. Watch out for the assignments where you're just sitting around for 8 hours a day with no internet. (I realize this is probably the fault of the company that hired Ashby, but there was 1 or 2 jobs where the manager went to play golf, and I was stuck there with no training, just sitting there.) Suggestions: I applied online, but I didn't hear anything back for about a month. So I walked in my resume, and was seen right there on the spot. More feedback on email? Have us call in or ask us how the job went everytime someone finishes an assignment. Maybe a small time limit to accept a job (Like 20 minutes). Makes the offer seem a little more personal Overall: Ashby is an awesome place to work. I have very few complaints. If you are a hard worker and just can't find a job. I would recommend Ashby. They seem to really care what you want, and they found me a job pretty quickly. This review may seem quite negative but I assure you it isn't. I would definitely go back to work for them. My advice is to not be picky, you can get alot of experience working for them. Especially if you are unsure of what you want to do, the assignments they send you on will help you to better understand what type of company you want to work for. With hard work and Ashby's help, you should easily find a job. Don't get frustrated easily, it can be a bit overwhelming going from job to job, meeting new people, doing a good job, and then the company not keeping you. read more

I was impressed with The A-list from my initial interview, and my intuition was not wrong. I was with another agency that put me on their "back burner", as if my job search had the luxury waiting around, hoping an opportunity came to me by magic or osmosis. This was not only frustrating, it was demeaning; and isn't job hunting already stressful enough?! The team at the The A-list is exceptional, and Annie went above and beyond to not only find me a job... she matched me with my dream job. If you are okay with being treated like a number, instead of a person that needs and wants to work, then there are a lot of choices out there. I came to Austin in the year 2009, I needed a good job and most employment agencies wouldn't even talk to me, if I walked into an employment agency office, I was dissmised immediately out the door to go apply on-line. The reason I started knocking on doors was because I applied daily to employment agencies on-line and I felt like I was throwing my resume to a deep black hole, over and over again. When I walked into Ashby for the first time, they greeted me and explained to me the applying process, they interviewed me on the spot and I got a call a few days later, Asbhy clerks understood exactly my experience and information and matched me with the perfect company. Unfortunately, the company hired someone else. 4 months later I received a call from Megan, the company wanted to give me a second interview. At that time, I was already working for another company, so Megan worked with me to negotiate a better pay, WAY BETTER, and to get my benefits once I was conveted into an employee of the company. Recently moved to Austin and googled best temp agency to work for after frustrating experiences in just trying to speak with someone from bigger offices such as Manpower, Randstad etc.. Went on a Friday, had a job on Monday, had a paycheck deposited into my account the following Wednesday. I was immediately greeted by Rachel Talbot (A true professional) who then sat down with me to discuss my qualifications and overall needs. First job was call center work, very easy work, well above the minimum wage. Got called for a 3 week assignment in downtown with a Corporate office that was great for networking. It was a great way to see the inner workings of a company. Luckily, for me it turned out to be really rewarding as I got to network with the President of the Division who asked me for my resume. Other staff members at A-List were Jessica and Megan who were very professional in resolving any issues and providing the most complete professional service that one expects to have. Having never been to a temp agency, I had no idea what to expect....The key is to be flexible, arrive early to all assignments, remember that you are representing A-list at all times, so be professional. Just because the environment is casual, doesnt mean you have to go to work in jeans and flip, flops. Raise the bar and dress for the position you want! I'd been searching for a while to find someone who could help with some clerical work for my small business. Upon recommendation of the third accountant I had visited, the receptionist suggested that I might want to check look for a temp agency. I did several searches in the Austin area and ran across Ashby Staffing (The A List) and decided based on the previous reviews to give them a call. Immediately, I was met with professionalism and care by everyone in the agency's personnel. We decided to meet at their office and go over my paperwork to come up with a plan to get all my receipts and records into Excel. Since I work out of my home, they offered to set up a work station in the Ashby office so that they could help supervise the project and secure my records. Everything worked out great! I was able to meet with the bookkeeper they called in and discuss questions and as well as go over how I needed things to be formatted. It all took barely a week when I was expecting it to take at least two weeks. The entire environment at The A List is very professional, attentive and respectful. The job was completed with exceptional attention to detail and I would highly recommend their office and staffers for both long term as well as short term projects. A-List was my first staffing agency experience and it was all around a truly fantastic one. I had the opportunity to meet the owner of the agency- Mike Ashby. He comes across as experienced, present and genuine with a high degree of approachability and bore an earnest aim towards excellence. Each of the staff members whom I met took their job astoundingly seriously and had a level of client care that was truly unique. They seemed to know a great deal about each of the companies they had contracts from and took the time to really think through placements that would yield mutual benefit. They had effective processes in place to get a strong understanding each individual that came in the door looking for work and secured placements in a timely manner. Every time that I emailed the staff, I got a response in less than 24 hours. Once I was at my placement, A-List made continual and tasteful efforts to maintain connection with my company. Last week, I was desperate for temp work. I just graduated high school last year and have been taking a gap year before I go to college in the fall but one thing I realized during this year of self-discovery is how expensive it is to live in Austin, Texas. Last year I worked with another agency over the summer and through fall, though after having to contact them over and over again, apply through their site, not getting any responses and then getting calls for jobs that I was not interested in, I looked elsewhere. I applied to A List online and got a call the very next day. I interviewed the day after that and met the lovely staff, a group of kind, upbeat, beautiful ladies that made me feel at home. Elka, my interviewer, explicitly told me that most of the temp work they have right now is sending an employee to a client when someone calls in sick. This is perfect for me as I do have other commitments going on and would be able to plan accordingly. The very next week A List Staffing called me and had a position for me sitting in for a sales associate which I actually really enjoyed! After applying for posted positions and not hearing much back, I signed up with the A List Staffing agency. I was very impressed at the quick response to posting my resume and after a brief telephone interview, I met with the staff in person. They took time to evaluate my skills and make sure they understood the types of position in which I was interested. I indicated interest in a position, had a phone screen interview and a follow up interview in person with the team in the company. They offered me a full time position which I accepted and the entire process took just over two weeks. Meg was great about keeping in touch and making sure I had all questions answered. They were genuinely interested in my success and happy when I was offered the position. They even called to wish me a happy birthday 8 days after I started work and the manager stopped to check with me when visiting my company. I have worked with agencies in the past and I highly recommend the A List Staffing agency as they are friendly, professional and great to work with. I just got off the phone with the rudest woman, Debbie Hol(_). She belittled my intelligence, "you're not making sense," for doing the responsible, professional thing of calling them to let them know my job interview had gone long and I couldn't make it to the assignment til later. Her initial response to my call was, "the position has been filled," even though I had an email from Elka confirming the assignment. She then proceeded to tell me "we don't want you" and canceled the rest of the work I had been assigned. I am not the only person this has happened to. At least 3 other people I've been on assignment with have told me that this woman, Debbie, has been incredibly rude to them. She needs to be fired. Also, please take note of all the "5 star" reviews AFTER negative 1 star reviews are posted. Very suspicious... (Another reviewer was threatened with legal action for writing a negative review. I will keep you posted if that happens.) So if you don't mind being punished for continuing your job search and going to interviews, being stripped of your dignity for having the audacity of wanting to work, then this place is PERFECT. read more

The A-List is by far the best staffing agency I have ever worked with. They are very efficient, and they are very good about matching jobs to your skills. The staff is friendly, considerate, and attentive to the needs of employees as much as the employers they are trying to match. When I was sick for a long period of time, the staff all signed a card and sent it to me, wishing me well. When I was able to return to work, they had opportunities available for me almost immediately. When I was hired on full-time at an employer I had been working for through the A-List, they sent me a mug with a variety package of teas, and occasionally called or visited to maintain contact even after I was no longer employed with the A-List. When the company I was working for decided to hire me on, A-List sent them a box of goodies and a thank-you card to thank them for their business. If I had concerns, the A-List staff was always willing to listen to me.
