Quick back story and fun fact: In 1911 there was a Zoo in Royal Oak! Of course, everyone complained…read moreabout the smell and the sound and never really embraced the beauty of the whole operation until the animals escaped and everything was eventually shut up and sold off. So now we have this voluminous pub with a fun, purple branding that doubles as a throw back to Auckland's past. There is plenty of seating (including the small cluster of outdoor couches everyone is vying for) and plenty of beers on tap. Inexplicably you are only allowed to smoke on one half of the outdoor seats. Staff seem to stay behind the bar unless they are trying to top up your barely finished drinks, which they do with hunter-like efficiency and a portable EFTPOS unit. Slightly too overpriced to be your local-after-work.

I went to the Zookeeper's Son on a double date and wasn't too sure about it at first to be honest…read more It's a pub and I'm more of a city girl but I thought I'd go along for the ride. I'm so glad I did because I was pleasantly surprised! We had so much fun. It's quite a big place but there were loads of people eating, laughing and having a good time so it didn't feel too big at all. We had a really intimate corner where we ate which was really nice. The menu is amazing. It's pub food but not as you know it. There's loads of twists on the traditional meal. For example we ordered the roast but it came out on a chopping board for us to share with the whole table. A brilliant approach to an old favourite. Their Yorkshire Puddings were SO good, good enough to break any diet for. There was a live band playing and at the end of our meal which was a really nice addition to the atmostphere. We had loads of delicious drinks but my pick would be their Long Island Iced Tea, it was so good. So as it turns out I was completely wrong, this place is a winner.

I did like the option of being able to order bar munchies or a full dinner. First night I dined here I ordered a steak and salad and was not disappointed. I ordered medium rare and it arrived as requested. Service was prompt and friendly. Not in the mood for a pint or bottled beer there is a full bar to assist. My hosts planned a happy hour the following night and we ordered appetizers. The chicken bites were great. The pork bites were kind of dry but were excellent to absorb the beer ;^) . Love the squid App!. All in all a nice local pub to catch a game, have bite, and a bit to drink.

Since Mac's took over and it became Union Post the transformation its just awesome, I love the decoration in this place, the lampshades hanging from the ceiling are so cool. So since my frist visit I have been a number of times. They have low tables and high tables, comfortable sofas, indoor seating and outdoor seating, there is a chair and table for everyone. They brew their own beer and cider, so you can get big jugs of the stuff, or just a smaller glass to go with your meal, I love the Issac's Cider best I have tried. I have tried the small plates of Chicken winglets, tiger prawns and squid - all very good, as well as the Chicken breast main dish. The dishes are all very good size, you sure will be satisfied and they often have Pizza and breakfast deals. This really is a wonderful local and it has great atmosphere and friendly service. Its also a child friendly place and have brought my baby here and have seen other babies and children hanging out here as well.

Staff are very friendly and loved to help you with your good selection if you get stuck because of their variety! Oysters were fresh, wine was nice, food was beautifully presented and delicious! Although it said it was small but we find that reasonable to share between three of us for three small plates and a pizza. We also ordered some oysters. We will definitely go back there again. =)

The inside is totally not what you expect. Don't be put off from this place, because its in Remuera and gives that upperclass vibe. The inside of Banque, is totally comforting and relaxing. Theres wonderful warm decor and an inside fire. Its a great place to have lunch or dinner with a glass of wine. My dining partner and I went for a quiet Friday lunch. Banque's menu is designed for sharing. The menu has a slight Asian flavour. I would def recommend having the Bluff oysters and diamond shell clams. They were served with a delicious dipping sauce. Obviously Bluff oysters are only served to season, so if you have the chance to eat them, try them! I wouldn't normally order any kind of pizza, but seeing it was a pizza bread it was a good choice for a filler, but tbh it was really tasty. The dough was super soft and flavour was great. The other two dishes were just a bit bland and lacked the same flavour excitement as the other dishes. I would recommend for Banque to just add more flavour to the ribs instead of just covering them in hoisin sauce. Although i think its a great idea serving lamb ribs as its pretty rare on other restaurant menus. Service was great, lovely guy who served us and I think i may have even tipped him. Would def recommend coming here, for good food, great atmosphere and service. Also good value for money, but Banque features in the Entertainment book if you want a good deal.
