Dog friendly! I took pictures of all the goodies waiting for our dog. It's very close to campus and they have their own spacious parking lot. It made visiting our kid very easy. Upscale hotel within walking distance to downtown, the Stadium & Littlejohn and campus. Also just down the street from the Esso Club! We stayed one night during fall break on a special fall rate at $125 for a studio room. The room is large with a refrigerator, bar area, small kitchen table and luxury vinyl flooring & couch seating area.. The bed was comfortable and all amenities were upscale. One downside is that there is no tub and my wife enjoys a nice, soaking, hot bath. No option there. Really, this was a nice stay, but most of the amenities were closed due to Covid and it was a Monday night, weeknight, so the bar area was closed. It looks to be a very nice hotel if things were back to normal. read more

The Abernathy was a joy to visit! The Abernathy is right at the edge of the Clemson campus, and within walking distance to the downtown restaurants and retail stores. The staff is friendly and efficient, and the rooms are beautiful! Ours was a king suite with a small kitchenette and table, a sofa, a very comfortable bed, large TV with dish satellite service, and a large bathroom with an amazing shower! They do have a bar and breakfast restaurant, but there are so many options in the downtown Clemson area that a short walk was a great idea to find wonderful dining and drinking options. I can imagine that the Abernathy would get quite expensive on game days and special events on campus, but for the off-season which is when we visited, it was a beautiful and affordable option. Pros: Brand new hotel at the center of Lake Hartwell and across the street from the football stadium. The hotel is like a studio apartment. They have a coffee machine inside your room, couch and kitchen table and small refrigerator. The flooring is all laminate and no carpet , which is nice . They have flavored water in the lobby . The coffee is not self served but it's free . They have a cafe in the lobby that serves breakfast and dinner and lattes or alcohol and beer on draft. The menu is more like appetizers and sandwiches . Overall , it's a cute place and very friendly staff . I left a cool sweater in the room and they said they would ship it out for free the next day . They also gave me a free latte. This is truly southern hospitality. Thanks so much :) Cons: They don't offer 24 hr coffee in the lobby You can hear the people above you and it's super loud . They need to put down area rugs to absorb the noise . They have all laminate flooring , which is nice but unless your on the 4th floor you can hear people above you . read more

Overall we were disappointed with our visit. The room was comfy but a bit on the small side. Everything was clean and the hotel is visually appealing. Our biggest issues were that our room rate included complimentary cocktails, but the bar was closed, and when we went to eat breakfast the restaurant was closed. There was no notice and we were left scrambling to find breakfast in town before our campus visit. No real apology or discount, just the offer of a banana. I reached out to management afterwards but didn't receive any response. Location is great but amenities are lacking. read more

The best thing about this hotel is the location in relation to Clemson's campus and the coolest thing about this hotel is the poker chip hotel key. As far as my actual stay here, it was terrible. I could hear all of the noises at all hours. The elevator, people talking, loud piping, and the extremely noisy people staying above me who had to be rearranging furniture or doing a workout video. I know at hotels this is likely to happen, but I've never experienced noise interruptions on this kind of level before. Could be the fact that the rooms have hard wood floors instead of carpet. The room was clean, the bed was comfortable, and the hotel staff was friendly. However, the pros are not enough to outweigh the cons and next time I am in Clemson I will stay somewhere I can get some peace and quiet and ultimately a good nights sleep. I had higher expectations for Clemson's newest hotel and at such a steep price point. read more

Very nice hotel. I recently stayed at The Abernathy while in Clemson on a business trip. The hotel is quite new and is one of the best options in town. My check-in process was seamless, and the room keys are pretty cool: a keepsake game chip with the slogan "Our Team Is All In For You." I'm a die hard Alabama fan, but I kept the chip as a nice memento. The rooms are very spacious and loft like with a bedroom area, living area, and kitchen area. The kitchen area includes a large counter, sink, microwave and refrigerator...perfect for football Saturdays. In the morning, I dined at their in house cafe and opted for the apple cinnamon Clemson waffle. It was great! The only downside is that I grabbed a Sprite on my way out and it was six months expired. The staff was apologetic and kind enough to let me grab another option. In all, it's a great place and I'll definitely stay at The Abernathy during my next visit. read more

We stopped in for a one night visit on the way back from Asheville over Thanksgiving. Enjoyed the rooms , staff and location. They are dog friendly and our dog loved the rug by the couch. The location allowed us to roam part of the campus without our car ,mostly the stadium area. We would have walked further but our dog is alittle old for cross country adventures! After a drive and stop tour of the campus we stopped at the Esso Club for a early dinner and football viewing then back to the Abernathy a short half mile up the hill. Had a great breakfast the next morning before exploring downtown on our way out. Lastly, the staff was quick in mailing our cell phone charger that we left behind. Great place to stay if your visiting Clemson or a pitstop if your going to the mountains. read more

Hospitality, hospitality, hospitality! Emma at the reception desk set the tone for the hotel with her professional, warm and friendly demeanor. Emma recommended great restaurants & printed out activities for me while I visited my son @ Clemson. The BEST suggestion was the many beautiful waterfalls close to Clemson. Stayed 3 nights and felt welcomed by every employee each time I walked into the lobby. Shoutout to lovely Spring who works at the breakfast bar. She makes a mean latte and remembers how you like your coffee. She too is very knowledgeable about the Clemson area and provided excellent suggestions. It was wonderful to wake up every morning and be greeted by Spring knowing exactly what I wanted to eat & drink. Like to thank Kristen, the Operations Manager, for letting me check out an hour late. Was not feeling well the day of my departure. I offered to pay extra to stay late but she was very kind and didn't charge me. You have no idea how much I appreciated her kindness. I know that late departures makes it difficult for housekeeping. Location to campus is outstanding. Hotel room is spacious with king size bed, sofa & table area. I would like to give 5 stars but housekeeping seems a bit spotty. Noticed the shower was not cleaned well, floor had dust & water spots when I moved the ottoman. However I'm sure it improve as it's a new hotel working out the kinks. I will definitely stay here again because this boutique hotel cares about its customers. Finally! A modern hotel walking distance to campus, especially the Stadium, and the ESSO club. We stayed one night during the summer with the family in a king suite. The room had a queen sized sofa bed, king bed, and a little kitchenette - complete with mini-frig, sink, microwave, and a coffee krug machine. There was also a dining room table with 4 chairs. It was very spacious for the 4 of us. I loved the laminate floors (looks like hardwood) and the crisp white bathroom. Every member of the staff greeted us warmly whenever we walked around the hotel. Two "downsides" to the hotel are: (1) breakfast is not free. $26 for two croissant sandwiches and a coffee was a bit high for the area. (2) the cost for the football season is nearly double what area hotels will charge. For that last downside, it's a matter of being so close to stadium and, honestly, the cost is worth it for big ticket games (Auburn, Florida State, SC). I almost forgot my most favorite piece. Currently, their room keys are orange poker chips - a little homage to the Clemson coach's "all in" practice with his players. I wonder how long they will be able to keep up this practice because they do not look cheap! Hope you enjoy this new hotel as much as we did. read more

I came in from Los Angeles and was looking for an upscale hotel to stay in. Clemson doesn't really have this, except for The Abernathy. Let's hope they maintain the "newness" of this hotel, as it was well-appointed, clean, fresh and a world apart from the other hotels in town. THE option if you're doing business at the university or going to the game, as every part of the campus is walking distance from The Abernathy. The staff were wonderfully nice, attentive and helpful. Emma was a delight to deal with. The rooms were large, spacious, with a kitchenette and large bathroom. Despite being right off the highway, the only time I heard traffic noise was if my window was open. The rooms were modern and elegantly appointed. The bar was reasonably well stocked (and pretty cheap compared to LA standards) and the bartender was wonderfully nice. If I have any negatives, it would be the following: 1. No continental breakfast. They need to offer this. A hotel at this level needs to have a continental breakfast (during non-football season days). 2. Coffee in the lobby in mornings. Put in a self-serve machine at least. I get that at the service center for my car, I should be able to get this at a nice hotel. 3. Bicycle rental. This would make maneuvering around the campus and local area easier. 4. Bar improvements. Need to stay open to midnight on most days. I get 10PM on a Sunday, but other days should be midnight, especially when you have people still in the lobby drinking. Plus, they need a few more craft beer options. 5. Better notification of upgrade options or add-on options to a reservation, after the reservation is booked. The desk staff didn't tell me at all that there were other experiences or options that I could have added, nor could I add on any extras once my locked my reservation. They should be upselling additional packages or at least have a stand-up at the desk that outlines any extra packages and options. 6. Partnership with Clemson Yoga and a local massage/spa provider to have a relaxation option as part of a reservation package. Maybe a private, in room massage or a free class at Clemson Yoga? 7. Local restaurant information. I don't really order room service, and the hotel didn't offer any, but they should have a printout of the local food options and their corresponding online delivery availability in the room, on the table where it would be clearly found. 8. Spa and deck. I don't think they have the room for it, but this place would be completely perfect if it had an outdoor spa/pool deck of some kind. I'll be coming back again to Clemson as I am in a program over there. When I do, I'll be staying here exclusively. The hotel is perfectly located and I had a wonderful experience. read more

Wow! I have passed the vision of this boutique hotel every day on my way to work and followed the construction from ground breaking to opening. The finished hotel is awesome! Unfortunately I did not have the opportunity to visit The Abernathy until this week and to see the newest member of this Clemson hotel family. Oh! Pardon me. Boutique hotel family. The name itself exudes extravagance, opulence and "service". The lobby is beautiful and the photographs on the wall are lovely and take you on a historical journey through Clemson time. There is a bar and a cafe but I didn't see any staff. My reason for stopping was twofold. First to see the photographs that were taken by a local photographer. Second to inquire about the hotel itself. I have a party of 20 people coming in and needed information about rates, etc. but did not share this with the front desk. I asked for a brochure or any advertising material and the expressionless glare made me feel quite uncomfortable. Was that an unreasonable request? This manager fumbled around and could not find anything to hand me and yet didn't even offer to verbally give me rates, etc. And a smile? Well forget that. I asked if I should go online to get this and did not get a response. I was given a business card and told to contact her if I needed anything. I don't understand..... Why couldn't she help me then?There was no one behind me. She seemed preoccupied. And so I took the card and left. My take on this? I hope the rest of the staff has not been trained in hospitality and customer service by this manager to greet guests to the newest, greatest Clemson boutique hotel. read more

I had arrived in Clemson after a 13-hour drive from South Florida after being mandated to evacuate my home in preparation of Hurricane Irma. I walked into the lobby at 8:00 am after driving all night, asked if they had availability, and explained to the front desk staff that I didn't want the room for the following evening, only for a few hours to nap and shower. My plan was to be out of the room by the required check out time that same day. The front desk agent was quick to answer that "she understood my dilemma" (really?) but could not offer me a same day check in and check out, even though she had rooms available. Incredibly unhelpful and unsympathetic. read more

Very very disappointing stay. Pull out bed was filthy - sheets were stained and covered in black hair. We asked front desk to send up housekeeping to change and they refused. Were very rude and dismissive. Told us due to Covid they wouldn't enter our room, but they would leave sheets outside our door and we could change ourselves. We told them that was unsanitary for us and we were concerned about the overall cleanliness of the room given the state of the sheets. Their only solution was to check us out (at 10 pm after we had driven 13 hours). Didn't apologize, offer a room discount, to move us to another room....literally no concern or care shown. The following morning someone tried to enter our room at 6 am - a man who said "housekeeping" as he opened the door. Fortunately, we secured the secondary lock so he couldn't get in. Finally, Monday morning the alarm clock in the room started going off at 5 am which apparently housekeeping must not have reset from a prior guest. At check out no one asked us how our stay was. Just if emailing our receipt was okay. There are now a ton of hotel options in Clemson and we will never stay at The Abernathy again. read more

The Abernathy has potential based on its location alone! But...it needs some work! The room is spacious...but our couch was full of crumbs, the floor and wall by door was sticky. Both of these alone tell me housekeeping is not on point. The bed was comfortable but the bathroom door didn't fully close. The no carpet floors are nice, but loud. Our room was right by the elevator so we heard all the comings and goings in the hall due to show noise on the floors. Breakfast tasted fine but choices too limited and way overpriced. Again, so much potential but some refinement is needed. read more
