DO NOT ATTEND THIS SCHOOL. I've been to many acting courses in LA and this is the most unprofessional and unhelpful. The "studio" - which is just a tiny space - is dirty, there are things thrown everywhere. She has her dogs roaming around in class so it smells like dog and the dogs fight each other which is a HUGE inconvenience when we were doing activities. It is not a good learning environment, very unprofessional. There was no structure. It just felt like every class was random activities that didn't build into anything. The "FEED-BACK" was not genuine. I would see people up there do a HORRIBLE job but she would just stroke their egos and tell them how amazing they were and to keep it up. Instead of pushing them to do better, and giving honest critic. As an actor you want HONEST critic, you want to be PUSHED so you can be better. You want structure, so every lesson should build on a specific skill. And you want a clean and professional environment to explore your creativity without any noisy dogs. OH! and she has a loud parrot in the back that would ALSO interrupt activities. I got a long with everyone and Marcie herself. BUT I have to be honest, this is a waste of time, there is NO GROWTH. I picked up my career after a very long hiatus. When I called Marcie, the owner, she was so encouraging and supportive. When I got there I found the same environment. She's so funny and zany with her 3 tiny dogs, a bird, and her fluffy crochet hobby-- yet she teaches such strong fundamentals that I've been able to use on the job. I have been a working SAG/AFTRA actor since 1994 and have often taken courses, seminars, and workshops to sharpen my saw so to speak, or just to maintain some skills. I am a professional actor and was looking for a class that is a bit different than the good ol scene study or improv. And than I found the Actor's Circle. It's a very unique class where you are learning and practicing situations that you would encounter in an audition room or on set. Marcie is a great teacher that is paying attention to the smallest of details of acting. Eveyone is working every day so you are not paying for once a month stage time. It's a very fun and supportive environment and yet Marcie won't let you off without reaching the goal of the excersice or scene. It's a very valuable lass for both working actors and newbies as it works on the core of who you are as an actor and not only how the written text needs to be performed. I was a student of the Actor's Circle for many years and I can't say enough about the experience. Marcie is a great instructor and knows how to push her students to be better without being harsh or traumatizing them like so many of the other acting coaches in LA. She really cares for each student and wants to see them succeed. I also loved that the class was full of regulars and I became lifelong friends with some of my class mates. All the students are so supportive of each other and I think that is really amazing! The only reason I stopped studying with Marcie was because we had to move to another city for my husband's job and then I stopped pursuing acting. But there are many Tuesday nights where I still miss attending class. I trained at a 2 year Meisner program in Los Angeles. It was a good program but I left feeling beat up. I l was very insecure when audition. Acting was fascinating but it wasn't fun.
