Genuinely not a fan here. The staff does not care and if you have good insurance they'll keep your loved one forever. The rooms are not kept as clean as the lobby, there are gnats in most rooms & the common area. Staff suggested for the patient to continuously wave his arms to shoo them away. Short of it, this place is all about the money honey. I'm fairly certain no one here has had to put a loved one in care homes before and the lack of empathy & emotional intelligence shows. read more

If I could give zero stars I would , do not put your loved ones in this place Terrible nursing and nutrition .. My mom was fed broth for a week on a mechanical soft diet after surgery , her dressing was never changed , she didn't receive her two ensure a day like the order read, she had to ask for it! My mother has been gone for 6 months and my review of the Actors home has disappeared. she was able to make her own decision about her life, she knew she knew her quality of life would change, and she did not want to go back to the Actors home. Not because of the staff as they were quite nice it was the administration. The administration cared about raising money and ratings over the well being of the resident. That makes for a clean lobby not decent food or any concern for their emotional well being. If you have the money keep the person you love home, think twice about the Actors Home. Losing my mother was tragic and one of the gifts she left us was never having to go back there and dealing with the administration. read more

If I could give the director, Laura White and the admission staff negative stars, I would. Everything is about money$. She had my 95 year old mother released when it was unsafe for her to come home, after the therapist said that she needed at least 6 weeks more of therapy. Now she rejected my mother at 5pm on a holiday weekend., at COB, because of discharge history. It's egregious that she held it against me for asserting my rights and being an advocate for my mother. The facility has a greet rehab staff. it's unfortunate that a disgrace like Laura White is the director! read more

I have been visiting here for years to see my Great Aunt Ana. It is a very beautiful place with many posters from the actors fund (dating back to 1916) as well as other Broadway + other theatre memorabilia in the form of posters. Friendly staff and people. There is a nice garden near the front of the main entrance and many rooms for gatherings and entertainment. Highly recommend if you have someone who was in the acting industry and needs a place to lie and Great place to visit and keep your loved ones for thee retirement. read more

After 5 years of keeping my bedridden mother at home, the time arrived, as I knew it would, to move her into long term care. I had advocated and micromanaged her health care superlatively if I say so myself. I learned how to do so by watching how SHE did things over the years. I had also kept her on the waiting list at The Actors Home, allowing others to claim her spot so that I could keep her at home. Periodically, I'd show her the brochure in an attempt to "prepare" her. She politely humored me by half-listening and looking, but I could also tell when her countenance was essentially telling me to "take a hike!" At age 91, Mama was at her kitchen table every morning at 10:00, but early one February morning, she slipped on a rug while on her way to the bathroom. No fracture. No breakage, but she never walked again. Out of bitter frustration, she would sometime yell aloud: "Lord, why don't You just come and get me!!" I would respond: "Because it's not time yet. You still have some things to teach us, and some things to figure out. Besides, I'm not ready for you to leave me, so you just have to stay. I need you." That always seemed to settle her down, and we'd keep going. On August 10th, 2016, paramedics brought her stretcher into the reception area of The Home. She looked about, and out of her mouth came music to my ears: "This is a nice looking place!" My response: "Well, wait until you see your room!" Lucy Seligson was her social worker and had placed brand new furniture in her room including a 9 drawer dresser, nightstands with new lamps, a large armoire, and a brand new 32" television. A huge window was across from her bed, and sunlight flooded the room all day long. For the next 3 years/2months/2 weeks, my testimony was consistent. I never worried about my mother not being lovingly cared for. Never. On October 27, 2019, I was holding her hand while my wife, 2 of her grandchildren and I sang to her. " I'm gonna lay down my burdens, down by the riverside. I ain't gonna study war no more..." Those were the last words she ever heard. At 6:31 pm, she quietly and gracefully slipped away while hearing: "I ain't gonna study war no more..." Five months shy of her 100th birthday. I'll end with this: Nurses Aides are not known for having glamorous jobs. Not being crass, but a significant duty of theirs is toileting. That said my favorite aide, had been there for 30 years! My mother was moved to The Actors Fund sub-acute unit after a hospital stay. Even with Covid provisions firmly in place, her stay was lovely. All of the staff, but especially Social Worker Stephanie, were so incredibly helpful. My mom received high quality care from the moment she arrived and she was happy there. I would have loved for her to stay, as the facility is nearby. But the long term component is incredibly pricey, especially if a resident wasn't part of the performing arts community. read more

My review is based purely on having performed there several times over the years (as part of an outreach program sponsored by the American Guild of Variety Artists). Everyone there is lovely, both residents and staff. The place is clean, well-maintained, nicely decorated, and has a homey atmosphere. I can't speak specifically to the care, but everyone I've met there seems very happy. read more

It is a shame the rating for this place will go down based on the fact that Tom G. did not get a call back in what he perceived to be a timely manner. No, Tom, I do not work at the Actors Fund - I live in Boston - that would mean I would have an 8 hour commute every day. My grandmother, who was a real person and did live at the Actors Fund for a number of years until she passed away loved it there. Several months ago, I was considering volunteering my time at the Lillian Booth Actors Home. However, my disability due to a back injury from my time in the Army Airborne proved too problematic and unpredictable for me to guarantee a specific day or set hours each week to volunteer. I was very upset by this development because everyone I met that works there was amazing. I had the opportunity to meet several of the residents as well and they treated me with dignity and respect...they made me feel welcome. I was hoping to have a place go to help people. I still want to do it, but I find it difficult sometimes to simply get out of bed. I really hope that I can find a way to tolerate my pain better, without the use of medication, so that I can make the drive from Fair Lawn to Englewood. The residents deserve people who can volunteer their time and it can be such a rewarding experience. I really am going to try to get my pain issues in order. I'd like to be there for these people. They helped entertain us for years, nowadays they can use the help. Please, if you can find it in your hearts, volunteer at The Lillian Booth Actors Home. read more

The Actor's Home has been a godsend for my 92 year old mother. She's been there three years in the assisted living facility. She's very happy with it, all things considered. She moved there from her NY apartment, and is in a sunny personalized large room with bright windows looking out over trees. The staff is wonderful, they are truly lovely people, and on numerous times have gone way out of their way to help her. I have nothing but praise for the staff and the facility. Additionally the grounds are pretty, well cared for, and my mother goes out quite frequently to be outside. Her medical care (she has diabetes and heart condition) has been constant, careful, and considerate. Too bad Tom G gave it a rating based on his having trouble with a phone call. read more

This gem of a nursing home was just awarded one of the best nursing homes in the USA by US News and World Reports. It received 5 stars overall. My own experience with the Actors Home's care for my elderly father has been exceptional. I highly recommend it to anyone who qualifies. I have had no problems myself contacting the main desk, and I have called at various times throughout the day. The care they have given my friend, a resident since 2009, has been wonderful. My only concern is that he had to be moved to the Nursing Home wing earlier this year, due to various health problems. He is slowed down yet alert and dedicated to the music he performed live just a few months ago. There are still many friends of his in Assisted Living, which he cannot visit due to being in a wheelchair and unable to leave his floor without an aide. On his current floor, the bulk of the other residents are much sicker than he is, and there is no one he can interact with, in order to keep his own mind active. This depresses him and is beginning to affect his spirit. It is a shame there isn't some type of accommodation for residents who need a bit more help than they could get in Assisted Living, yet whose health has not yet deteriorated to such an extreme state. read more

Really, really lovely place. I did not get a full tour, but still, every staff member that I met was very helpful and friendly. I got a very good feeling about this place. (I was visiting a dear friend who was in the area where a bit more care is required.) It was absolutely clean and pleasant. In the particular area that I visited, I think it would be great to find ways to keep things as quiet as possible... As I was visiting my friend in her room, there were the usual and various beeps and buzzes that one would hear in a hospital-like facility. Near her room, there was a set of doors that seemed to be a bit loud as staff members went in and out quite frequently. (Delivering meals, etc.) Also, the next door neighbor's room had a TV going that was a bit loud... We could hear it in my friend's room... I don't think that would be pleasant to have to deal with on a daily basis. The Lillian Booth Home has an excellent reputation... What a challenging proposition to create an environment that is truly "heart and soul nourishing" for elders who are living in this type of community.
