History

Established in 1988.

We are an independent; family owned and operated small business that is built on a foundation that began in the early 1960s. It all started when Paul and Ruby Schurr purchased an ace of property with a one room school house. They tore down part of the school house and used the lumber to build a home and a small building where they sold bait, boots, clothing and tackle. They named the shop Shurr Strike. Near 1980, Neil and Carolyn McNutt purchased Schurr Strike and changed the name to Hook-It. Over the next seven years, they expanded into fly fishing, archery, firearms and ammunition. In September of 1988, Paul and Susan Culler moved their family from Butler to Hudson and purchased Hook-It and the McNutt's home. Paul and Susan renamed the store The Angler Bait & Tackle. In April 2014, Paul and Susan's youngest son Reid and his wife Heather purchased The Angler, fulfilling Reid's lifelong dream of owning the business that he grew up in.
