I've tried a few florists in the area and Annex quickly became my hand's down favorite. Always fresh flowers that seem to last a good long time. First time I bought from them I believe the bouquet lasted at LEAST two weeks. Nice people, always friendly and Reasonably priced. Very cozy store on the center of the village - a good stop to make even if just to peer into the window. When my daughter became engaged and set the date I didn't blink an eye on who I would choose. I dialed The Annex florist and set up a time to come in with my daughter to plan her wedding flowers. I can't describe how beautifully the whole process went. Ed & Mary are so professional and caring. I knew that I didn't have to worry about a thing. When the flower arrangements; bouquets;corsages and boutonnieres arrived they took my breath away. Amazing! Throughout the day I received wonderful compliments on everything. Do not go to this florist shop for flowers if you have options to go elsewhere!! The owners Mary and her husband are unprofessional, aggressive, and frankly downright nasty. I almost did not have flowers for my wedding in part because of them. I put a deposit down on the Annex to do my wedding flowers about one month from my wedding. I felt they were purposely vague about prices until we actually finished the order nor did they talk about a budget. At the end, Mary started writing out prices on the order. When I noted the bridesmaid bouquets may be too high for MY budget (emphasis on "my", not that it was too high for market) as I had to pay that day, Mary flipped out. I mean beet red, screaming to the point of spitting and wagging her finger at me to bully me into not questioning the bill. she went from zero to 100. She accused me of "wasting her time" (not to mention I drive 2 hours to go to the appointment). She yelled I should "go back to the city" where I live and try to find someone to do it. She and her husband insulted my father who originally came into the store to inquire. Mary literally said she was going to "rip up my (deposit) check" and she didn't want to do my wedding. To add insult to injury, as they knew, I was already sullen due to it being my late mother's birthday (she knew bc I was going to buy flowers for her). Nonetheless, She continued to yell at me and screamed at me, "Sit down! Sit down now!" as I stood sobbing and speechless at the register with wallet in hand. In what world is it ok to talk to anyone this way? She then unleashed more complaints about me: that I came in too late (We had no standing appointment and I came at 2:15 well within her requested time frame), they turned down 2 other events for mine (that's not my problem), and that I was on my "computer" (she meant iPhone) too much showing pictures (that's b/c their catalogs weren't on trend and they asked me to show them). The husband chimed in and stood very close to me also wagging his finger in my face... he also insulted my father (whom he never met). It a total 180 from before. So there I am, a young Asian woman in an empty shop being screamed at by the two older owners I've never met before, the husband being very much in my personal space. As I was crying, a customer came in so they backtracked. Mary made Excuses saying she was just "stressed". Mary said, "Stop crying. Your eyes are puffy and I don't want your dad to come in here and get mad at us." They demanded I not post on Yelp (I didn't mention it but I guess they saw it coming). When the customer left, I did not feel safe and went to make a phone call, distressed about what to do. Funny how after 10 minutes, they wanted to do the wedding, and Mary told her husband to give me a hug. Ick. I could not in principle give the Annex my money and once Mary left, I told the husband thank you but this isn't a good fit and I will look elsewhere. Even when I told him to please tell his wife thank you for her time, he said "I'm not going to!" Completely Petty and sad. They knew I was in a precarious situation as I'm so close to my wedding, so they thought I'd take their bullying. I have to wonder if they'd treat me that way if I was with my husband or my father (whom Mary was concerned about), or is it bc I'm a young asian woman they thought I'd take them screaming at me? This was done in an empty shop, and thankfully I had my phone with me to document their behavior. I was able to find beautiful flowers locally for my wedding at a lower rate and without the drama and like my other vendors, it was without issue. Customers have right to ask what the price of flowers are. Wedding planning should be enjoyable and not one where you're screamed at, patronized, and spoken down to. I do think brides are gaslighted and treated poorly by some vendors like them bc they know how important weddings are. Had they been respectful and talked to me rather than screamed and bullied, they would have guaranteed had my business due to how close my wedding was. I never raised my voice, asked for a discount, or expressed discontent with their work. To try to keep my business, they offered to not charge me tax, and I still politely turned it down. This wasn't about money. I was at the receiving end of an anger problem. Being treated like a human being is more important than flowers. I still would not choose them if you have other options. The Annex gets business bc they're one of the few florists in Pawling and the surrounding towns. Most of the catalogs and work they showed were quite old. They don't use email or have WiFi in their shop. Their hours are sporadic so it's difficult to access them. The actual shop had very few flowers to reference when I was there. The husband and wife duo continued to disagree about which flowers they liked for my order. Also after leaving the florist, I noticed Mary incorrectly ordered an extra boutonnière. I needed flowers for a grieving family member...I called multiple florists in the area and The Annex Florist was the only place that treated me with care and concern. I had a lovely conversation with an Annex Florist employee that helped me pick out the perfect, freshly-cut flowers for an amazing price. The check-out process was easy and fast. They were also going to do same-day delivery, but the woman I worked with on the phone suggested next-day delivery, to allow time for the flowers to open more, since they were so fresh (and I really appreciated this advice). I would highly recommend having Mary and Ed Mahaffey, owners of The Annex, design flowers for a wedding. They were genuinely excited in making my vision a reality and stay on budget. To say I was more than pleased with my bouquet, the bridesmaids' bouquets, the flower girls' pomander balls, the men's boutonnieres, the flowers in the church and the reception would be an understatement. They listened closely to my vision and kept the pictures I brought in as a reference. Every last detail of my wedding flowers were exactly what I imagined. My bouquet was the perfect size containing the freshest flowers with perfect color roses and beautiful accent flowers. The church looked stunning with the bows on the pews and the gorgeous flower arraignments on the altar. When I arrived at my reception the tables and the cake table were spectacular!
