We drove into Kent Countryside, having NO idea of what or how we actually wanted to change/add to our already existing plants and shrubs surrounding our home (log-style in the middle of 11 acres). We were immediately greeted by, Christine, who could not have been friendlier or more knowledgeable. She actually listened patiently as we described the picture of the shrubs/plants we had in mind. Without rushing, she showed us around the nursery and presented us with lots of ideas, taking into consideration the location of our home, areas that receive lots of sun and those that are without sunlight. Their selection is amazing and the employees were friendly and helpful, not to mention their prices are beyond reasonable. What more could you ask for and they are LOCAL, another huge plus! The staff at Countryside are warm, knowledgeable and extremely helpful. They have beautifully landscaped two of my family's homes with an eye catching design of both trees and flowers. Kent Countryside has turned into my go-to whenever I need outdoor trees/shrubs etc. Always a great selection, but the key difference is customer service and attention to detail. I often get Christmas trees there as they usually have some really good sized ones that work for my house where I have a few spots with high ceilings that accommodate a 13/14 foot tree. This year, they sold out early as many places in the Hudson Valley did. I eventually found a tree from a vendor a good hour away and got it back to my house, but when I tried to set it up my tree stand broke. I managed to jury-rig something, but didn't feel good about it. It seemed unsteady and... that's not a good feeling. I dropped by Kent Countryside and talked to Sue. I was hoping to get one the really strong tree stands that they sell but also asked if I could hire one of her people to help get the tree set up properly so I would stop worrying that my newly purchased tree wouldn't come crashing down in my living room and turn into 13 feet of unusable mess!. Sue's son Joe showed up that afternoon and spent an hour helping me get it right and then wouldn't let me pay him! I tipped like crazy, of course, but that sort of attitude is just emblematic of the way they go about business. They have everything you could possibly need but just back it up by being just really great people! read more

I've been going here for YEARS! Their plants are nursery quality plants. After moving here 10 years ago, and trying plants from Home Depot and the like, and watching most die, I found KCN. Besides the awesome selection of hardy perennials I've purchased, they planted two trees and a bush for me. Unlike the planting I've tried to do, these plants are thriving years later. I've also purchased yards of soil from them. They arrived on time always and dumped where I indicated. I hate to hear someone having such difficulties as one of the reviewers. I hope they go in in person and speak with them. This is a family run business and in my experience have always made good. read more

I would have liked to see pricing displayed to encourage potential buyers to purchase more without having to ask for pricing. Go elsewhere. Kent planted a new lawn and about 50 plants for me last June. I asked them several times to winterize the plants (16 were in planters). Fred is difficult to communicate with. Lots of "we'll get back to you next week" and they never actually got back to me despite 6 emails. Now all of the "extremely cold hearty" plants are dead, grass is sparse, and my 4 messages about the 1 year guarantee on their plants are not getting a reply. Very unhappy. After Fred's comments below: Feds review below comes 11 months later. Fred you replaced only 12 not 16. 4 others were boxwood not willows. You we're impossible to get a hold of and no, was not about the irrigation system. You promised they were cold hearty. I even offered to pay you so winterize them and while you said sure, you never did. You literally turned down an opportunity to make money winterizing them. You didn't try to deny you didn't respond to 6 emails and your reply to this review almost a year later shows abysmal communication. So yeah there are many better than you. You left a mess after replacing them and left the dead ones on my lawn. As shown by my security cameras. That was incredibly unprofessional. Buyer beware. I have no need to call you. Just a need to tell people to go elsewhere. read more

This spring we will have to remove three trees purchased a few years back from Kent Countryside Nursery - they were not installed correctly and have never blossomed (not to mention the disaster of installation - equipment breakdowns, delays, with manual installation ultimately). I am only writing this review because the trees are the last remnants of the many plants, shrubs, etc. we purchased from KCN - literally everything we spent thousands of dollars on failed to flourish. Under the management of a strong and intelligent landscaper, our yard now resembles what we had expected in dealing with this Company. Never again, not even an annual! read more

I'm not really sure what issues J and Donald were experiencing, maybe a busy day or new staff or something... I came across this place about three years ago, looking to start a garden in my backyard. Joey and Freddie were VERY helpful in getting me started. They helped me pick out what would grow best, how best to lay it out, everything. They came out and planted the larger shrubs and installed a nice stone path down the middle. I've been back every year for my Christmas tree, and they never disappoint.
