The idea of having a club with a…read moreswimming pool really did appeal to me and my friends when we were around 18, many of us would go there to get our cheap thrills, looking through the windows of the pool area. The great thing was that you didn't have to swim, and if you did, it would cost an extra five pound, that would get you access to the pool and a towel. I do enjoy a swim, but I tend to go swimming pools at fitness centres, costing a lot less. The last time I went to the Club Aquarium was for an after party, we got the at 6 am and left at around 10 am, so it's a venue that provides a challenge, to party all night. It is a very well known venue with a great sound system, so it often has top DJ's performing. It is only a few minutes walk from Old Street Tube, so if your in the Old Street area and the club you were at shut at 4am, you can make your way to the Aquarium, chill there, watch people swim, have a drink, and by the time you do all that through the crowd, the underground would have opened. It is the only club in the UK to have a pool, it's a novelty and worth a visit. Definitely suggest the morning after party's.

The rest of the interior plays upon the underwater theme with soft ethereal coloured lighting and white drapes criss-crossing the ceiling. This place generally attracts friendly, possilby slightly perverted people eager for the opportunity to see someone in a two-piece. Music-wise each night is different and offer alternatively cheesy pop, electro, funky house and disco so it's always best to check for the night that suits you best. Drinks are fairly expensive but pretty standard for this club strewn area of London. A nice place to come with a group of mates but because of its novelty it's unlikely to become a regular to many.

As we walked down the first set of stairs we are greated with a David Hasselhoff picture on a door, with 80's music playing, broad smiles crossed our faces. Itcouldn't believe we hadn't been here before! A friend had told us of such a place but to actually be there it was kind of a dream come true. It had just opened so it wasn't busy, we walked around checking out the A-Team, Flash Gordon the screen, and the many, many weird electric plastic things you can buy for cheap. (including a cone bra, glittered hats and glowsticks) The drinks are named after classic 80's things, (blue lagoon, the knightrider) and for £15 you can purchase a plastic margarita glass full of your favourite cocktail the likes of only Vegas can provide. Since it was so early we didn't have to pay cover or wait outside, just walked right in and had a drink each. In the process we bumped into a stag night group who were quite entertaining. The place losses a star because the volume of the music (which border lined on 70's disco sometimes) was deafening for 9pm, and on Friday and Saturday nights it must be avoided as it's THE place for Stag and Hen nights. Meaning a lot of drunken messes. It's only open three days a week so keep that in mind. There's no cover on Thursdays, my friend and myself cannot wait to go back to see how it is during the week with a group of our friends and the proper 80's dance wear.

Daytime, is a little café, you can come over for some snacks. At night, this turns into a bar/cluby kind of venue, and if you are up for an adventure you should go downstairs and check out the stage and dancefloor. I say adventure because you will find people here that dress half as man and half as woman, or boys that wear high heels, pink stockings and make up, girls that take off their clothes off in the middle of everything, and etc, etc, etc. For me this is the best representation of Dalston and East London: a mix of everything in a (very) cosy space with cheap beer, just like Philip described. Come to watch a gig, meet interesting people and have a good time. Check out their schedule on the official website. Perfect venue to start of the night. You can even do a little Dalston tour and head to The Alibi afterwards. Great location, just on the corner The Haggerston. Taking the night bus? Don't worry, this is on Kingsland Rd. and you will have no trouble going from/to Shoreditich or Central London. I was introduced by a lovely Yelp friend and try and get back whenever I'm in Camden as I really love this place. To me this is one of Camden's real hidden gems. So why do I love it? Let me count the ways: Live music: I'm not sure if there is someone on every night, but I'm always shocked by them hosting some fantastic, extremely talented musicians. Intimate setting: As a tiny little venue you huddle around small tables, it feels cozy, personable and warm. Art work: Walls, ceilings and tables are plastered with art, pictures, paintings collages drape all surfaces. It's like some hipster arty underground cavern... like so many bars in Shoreditch are trying to achieve, but this place isn't trying, it has charm and personality without having to try. Caipirinhas and mojitos: Using traditional Brazilian ingredients the cocktails here are just superb... and after a few you can't help but sink back into your seat and enjoy the ambiance. I'd also recommend the Cuba Libra, I'm usually not a fan, but would make an exception here. As a cocktail bar you need to expect to pay cocktail prices, but the live music, amazing atmosphere and art are free.

In the middle of our meal I noticed things moving on the walls. A family of cockroaches coming out from behind the booth. WTF?! It made our skin crawl to sit in that cesspool, so we quickly ate up (while closely expecting every bite). Had to pay 23 quid for it, which is IMO unjustifiably high for fast food. As I was paying I informed the waitress of the infestation problem, and she just brushed it off as a constant issue. No apology whatsoever. Disgusting place.

Monday's they have just started to do an event based around guest speakers and showcasing hip hop music videos; choosing their favourites and showing them why. I love an event where you learn or simply have fun. So though it's not a place is typically hang out because of the crowded small space, the hip hop vibe it clearly favours is something I feel is always missing with London and I embrace when I find.

Extremely Unsafe & Discriminatory for Disabled Guests - Please Read Before Attending…read more I'm leaving this review after months of being ignored by KOKO Camden following a serious incident that occurred on 27th February 2025. I emailed the venue on 28th Feb and again in full detail on 3rd March -- both emails were completely ignored. I attended the venue for a concert and had followed all proper procedures, including emailing the access team months in advance to confirm I would be bringing food, water, and medical supplies due to my Type 1 Diabetes. This was approved via email and in line with KOKO's own accessibility policy on their website, which states that attendees can bring food, drink, and medical items for health conditions. I had also attended this venue many times before with no issues. Despite this, upon arrival: * Security refused to let me bring in any of these items, even after showing them the official email from the access team. * My medical necessities were confiscated, and I was left with minimal supplies. * I was mocked and belittled by multiple staff members, including one who said, "That's a whole shopping bag," despite the bag being standard size and containing medical items. * I was taken into a back room by the venue medic (named Matt), who also dismissed my access needs, questioned my condition, and sarcastically asked, "So is a 1-minute response not good enough for you?" For someone with diabetes, 1 minute can be the difference between being fine and passing out. Despite all this, they refused to let me carry the bag with me and said staff could "bring items if needed" -- something that simply did not happen when I actually needed them. Throughout the night: * I became hyperglycaemic from stress, then hypoglycaemic later, and was unable to access my own supplies in a timely manner. * Staff were unresponsive, dismissive, and even shouted at my friends and PA when they tried to help. * I was denied access to the accessible toilet after the show -- the only response was "it's closed, use the regular one." * When I finally got my bag back, the medic questioned whether my blood sugar was actually low and condescendingly offered unsolicited advice -- at the end of a night where his refusal to listen had already endangered my health. I had medical documentation, an access card, official email confirmation, and visible medical devices. Still, I was denied the basic rights and support I need to safely attend an event. KOKO's own website says they "welcome all attendees who need to bring food or drink to manage a medical condition," but their staff did the opposite. I left this event physically unwell, distressed, and genuinely frightened by how little my access needs were respected. If I had passed out or worse, it would have been entirely the venue's fault. That's how serious this was. The fact that no one at KOKO has responded to me months later shows a complete lack of responsibility and care. This venue is not safe for disabled attendees in its current state. Until KOKO radically improves staff training, communication, and actual accessibility practice, I strongly urge anyone with access needs to stay away.

On a busy night expect it to feel cluttered but when you've had a couple of drinks and the live music has begun it really doesn't matter. Dance the night away! I saw there, one of the best blues bands, the lead singer, a lovely girl, had an amazing voice that sent goose bumps everywhere. And for the life of me I cannot remember their name and have been trying to find out ever since. We went there with eight friends of mine from uni and we were fortunate to sit on the big round table in one of the subsidiary rooms. Really intimate and private space, it was like going to someone's basement (paying a fiver) and having a private gig. Can get chilly in the round table room so have a light sweater on you.

I walked away and waited for my order feeling as if I was the problem- for god forbid paying this establishment for food. I debated getting a juice as they were cheap at £3.20 but refused to give this place any more money. It also took FOREVER for my food to arrive, despite the place not being busy at all. It seemed the cooks and staff (including that horrid server) had better time joking behind the bar than working. I could imagine your food would take centuries if one came at a busy time. The roti itself was delicious: chock full of juicy prawns, chickpeas, veg and potatoes. The roti was firm enough to hold the goodies but soft to chew and delicious. Mild spice (and this is coming from someone who doesn't do spicy sadly). It's a shame the food (and the price at £7.95 for the huge roti) is so great bc the crud attitude means I would never return nor recommend anyone would. Good riddance.

The Tabernacle is a strange place. I had heard of it when I moved nearby, but it wasn't until a…read morecouple of years ago, I discovered it for myself. Completed in 1888, the Romanesque red brick and terracotta building has been decribed as the 'Taj Mahal of North Kensington'. When the area went into decline in the 1900's it ws the centre of many slums in the area and race riots. In 1975 it closed down as a church and taken over by the local council. Demolishion plans were twarted and it was converted into the multi use community building that it is today. Joe Strummer of the Clash appeared here in the 70's and it also hosted gigs by Misty in Roots and George Melly. In 1995 it closed to be upgraded, to reopen in 1998. It is still going strong as a multi-use venue.They hold art exhibitions, concerts, dance lessons, fitness and sport activities as well as concerts. It's a great place to go for a drink or snack, and is very reasonable. It also has a full bar. I like sitting outside when the weather is nice in the large courtyard in frotn of the building. I highly recommend you visit this place, should you be in the Portabello Market area.
