My wife and I were out driving in the countryside up and down Route 11 and decided to pop in to the Visitors Center. We didn't have a clue what to expect. I had looked up the Edinburg Mill the day before and actually the low admission fee ($3 in Jan 2018) made me a little leery. I didn't expect much. But was I ever pleasantly surprised. I especially enjoyed seeing so much about local history and how the people actually lived. Lots of personal history. There's a 45 minute movie included in the fee about the history of the mill - but we didn't have time to watch it. You could spend multiple hours here and probably not see everything. I didn't recall the two docents names but they were very knowledgeable and nice. Ample parking (but perhaps this might change when the restaurant opens). The gift shop was eclectic and even included some local pottery and antiques (but it's not an antique store). There's a restaurant opening in January 2018. The Edinburg Mill may not have the polish and sophistication of a big city museum - but that's why I highly recommend a visit.

I was filled with Joy that I haven't felt in a long time, and those who saw me knew it, and had to giggle at me a little because this good old country boy drove up in a 2014Toyota Prius plug-in loaded down with camping gear to a place that doesn't normally see a Prius from California. Since I was there I had to pay my respects to Ben Jones by ordering Cooter's Classic Burger, and this nice lady told me about the other Cooter's restaurants that I can visit, I didn't realize it was Alma Viator the late Ben Jones (aka Cooter) widowed wife. The cashier/cook lady kindly told me who she was, and my jaw dropped. I felt so blessed that someone like her would talk to me just a little country boy from a little town called Cere's California. I was also incredibly nervous to be around such Redneck royalty, so I mustered up my strength to tell her how so many rednecks loved her & her husband in California, and how amazing Cooter's Place is to me. Truly a holy place for country boys like me, but unfortunately I forgot to mention to her that it was the character Cooter that inspired me to be a dealer mechanic, but I was rudely interrupted by my girlfriend asking for an autograph which was inappropriate for a grieving widow. I also wanted to give her my deepest condolences for her loss, I wish I could have met Ben, he truly was a talented man, so inspirational in so many ways. For a little while I was in Heaven surrounded by so many memories of the joy that the Dukes of Hazzard brought to my childhood. I truly hope to visit this place again someday. Cooter's Place holds a special place in my heart. Thank you Alma for making this experience so incredibly memorable for me. I appreciate your' hard work keeping Cooter's Place open.

The backstory of what went into the stunts and how a lot of it was trial and error and memorization was interesting. The hardest part was realizing my own naivety and flat out ignorance as it related to the confederate heritage that undergirded the show. From the car, the flag and heritage the theme of the show aimed to keep alive was tough to come to terms with and at the same time reminded me of the innocence of being a child and just enjoying the action and comedic experience the show brought. I bought a souvenir and I haven't even unpacked it almost a month later.

The temperature of 54°F (12°C) year-round. I brought a light jacket. We walked thru the paved loop. Scott talked about history and the discovery of the carven. He pointed out many different shapes of limestones around us. He also mentioned lots about minerals, Stalactites, Stalagmites etc. I enjoyed his jokes and he definitely made the early tour worth it. With the ticket, you can also visit Car & Carriage Caravan Museum, Shenandoah Heritage Village, and Toy Town Junction. The cafe sells some snacks and chocolate. All the staff were very nice and friendly. Bathroom is clean. You can stay there as long as you want. visit all the museum and the carven . No time limit. Big parking lot in the front. Very convenient. Highly recommend if you are in the area.

Overall, I'd tell people to save some money and go to a smaller local cavern honestly. Around $90 for the 4 of us, and that included a Giant card discount. The caverns are quite large and beautiful as to be expected. Other tours we have been on had a person walk you through and talk to you about everything, not this one. It was a free for all, people pushing through, kids running wild, quite unenjoyable. There were staff members in some areas, they were kids (16yr~olds). You could ask them questions but you got the kind of answer expected from a teenager. There were 2 teens working by the organ. They were talking to each other very loudly, extremely distracting and they offered no information about the organ when asked. Even though these caverns are larger than previous ones we visited, we ended up going through them much faster just because of how people were pushing through you. The experience was not worth $100.

The moment you step onto the grounds, you can almost feel May 15, 1864, unfolding around you. The fields are quiet now, but they hold the echo of the day the VMI Cadets -- boys, really -- marched into a real war and changed the course of the battle. The park is immaculately kept. Walking the Field of Lost Shoes with the mountains in the background feels like standing inside a painting and a memory at the same time. The interpretive signs do a great job placing you exactly where key movements happened -- Breckinridge's line, the Union artillery positions, the cadets' charge. If you're a detail-hound, this battlefield lets you connect dots you didn't even know you were missing. Highlights: * The Bushong Farm is a time capsule. You walk through it and suddenly you're in 1864, wondering what the family heard, saw, and feared as the battle rolled over their home. * The terrain itself is the best "exhibit." Once you see the slopes and fields in person, the tactics make so much more sense. * There's an almost sacred calm to the place -- the kind of quiet that makes you pause before you speak. Tips: Wear good shoes, explore the whole field, and take your time. Don't rush it. This isn't a battlefield you see -- it's one you feel. Bottom line: If you're a history buff, this battlefield isn't just worth visiting -- it's essential. It's intimate, haunting, and unforgettable.
