Non residents (without Reliant Parking stickers) using the charging stations

Marcela and Christian were friendly, but a new lady was hired on that has clearly never worked in a professional setting before. Rudest and most condescending person you will ever meet working in a luxury apartment front office. A new management team took over 2 years ago and there were growing pains, but felt they overcame most of them during my time there. It wasnt until my last 2 months at Artisan that I started to see why everyone was leaving We were month to month and gave a 30 day move out notice like our rental agreement requested. We scheduled an inspection a week before move out and they no showed without reason or follow up. We didnt receive a move out email regarding instructions or next steps, but saw that our unit was listed as available on the website. They were unresponsive by email and phone always went to voicemail. I dont think the staff checks their emails or missed calls when they get back to their desk for some reason. On the day before move out, our resident dashboard showed we owed a full months rent balance still so we wanted to come in to the office and ask clarifying questions (since I've read other horror stories in the reviews). We visited the office and the new lady already looked visibly bothered to help us, almost as if we were wasting her time. When asked about the final balance, next steps and info about the keys (keys are all on Brivio and Latch now), she proceeded to call us residents "dumb sometimes" and laughed at us since she probably assumed we got an email about this. As tempting as it was to pull out the phone and record the rest of her condescending comments, we figured a review was good enough. Its clear staff such as her were only hired on to bring new residents in, but were never trained on retaining them. Probably after realizing they made a mistake, we finally got the move out email that was supposed to be sent with all of the relevant information, but it was already too late for us. As expected, because our inspection never happened, our deposit got deducted for nearly everything and ended up having to owe money in the end. As frustrating as this process was, at least the nightmare was finally over. Unfortunately, if you are moving out of the Artisan for any reason, staff members have the green light to berate and make your life as difficult as possible on your way out the door. I will try and get others to avoid this headache the best I can below: IF YOU ARE MOVING OUT make sure you do the following: - Go into the office IN PERSON and put in your notice. Make sure you get the move out email in your inbox before you leave the office or they will likely forget. Rarely will they answer your calls or emails - If you had a maintenance request for any kind of repair, make sure you take a picture of their work, as they may try and charge YOU for the repair not being done correctly on move out (Wrong screw used inside dryer, wrong hose behind washer, etc.) - If your only option is to call the office, dont call using the "Current resident" extension, call the "Future resident" extension and they will pick up right away. Like I said earlier, new residents are their only priority here IF YOU ARE CONSIDERING MOVING TO ARTISAN BECAUSE OF THE DISCOUNT: - Consider the apartment complex right across the street called Wyatt that offers the same exact discount, with qualified staff that know how to conduct themselves like adults and dont call their residents "dumb" - There is no security at the building after hours due to budget cuts and the garage door breaks open a lot. This has lead to squatters and homeless entering the building - You need 2 apps (Brivio and Latch) to enter anywhere in the building and your unit. If you lose your phone or if it dies, you will be locked out (thankfully the garage is always broken so you might be ok some days) - If you have an EV vehicle, charging is free BUT 80% of the chargers are now out of order and have been for months. Non residents have also found a way in the building and use the chargers since the Chargepoint password was made public via a sticker. As a result, chargers are rarely available now for residents - Some hallways smell awful and its because residents open their doors and let their pets relief in the corners. No response from management, just sent out a ChatGPT generated "Dont do that" email and called it a day - If Artisan is your only living option, avoid units facing east because of the freeway noise, units facing south because of the noise of the freeway onramps, units faing west because of the garbage trucks and sirens. The only units remotely worth the asking price are the ones facing inward and the ones facing north - The best thing about the apartment complex is the maintenance staff (which is saying something) who have always been very friendly The solution to all things above: hire qualified staff that not only care about bringing in new residents, but also retaining them.

The garbage rooms are overflowing so they keep these in the garage blocking traffic.

DO NOT MOVE HERE! The Artisan is complete nightmare. There is trash constantly overflowing out of the garbage rooms because they don't have them managed properly. The hallways all smell routinely like rotting garbage or worse a horrendous perfume they try to mask it with. The building is infested with roaches and rats after a year with garbage mismanagement. The staff in the office for some reason go out of their way to make life difficult for residents in bizarre and confounding ways. I lived here for over 5 years, but the last year with the Artisan Group running the building was a nightmare of weekly elevator outages, garbage pileups, dog poop and pee in the hallways/elevators that is not cleaned up by anyone, and stolen packages from a mismanaged mailroom. It used to be a great place to live and turns out that the Artisan Group is a bunch of slum lords that bought a luxury building and is just in way over their head. I have finally moved out and free to give my honest opinion. I am so glad to get out and people are moving out in droves. I would not be surprised to see this building go bankrupt in 2025. And for 1 last kick between the legs on the way out they slam you with a bunch of lies and BS fees to not give you your security deposit back even if the place is immaculate and you show proof of all payments for utilities they claim you still owe. Also check that they have your renters insurance on file otherwise you are being charged $12/mo for a policy you don't need and they are not telling you about. They are not proactive in checking this. They just charge you. HORRIBLE. DON'T MOVE IN! SO glad I am OUT!

On January 24th, a maintenance man just walked into my apartment with no knocking and I did not have an active work order. He just let himself into my unit. I got so scared and he was shocked to see me at home and said he was at the wrong unit and apologized. I sent an email to Mylena and Marcela and I have not gotten a response. I left a voicemail to the regional manager Marcus Mitchell and I haven't gotten a response. They just simply do not care about their residents and righting their wrongs.

She went above and beyond to make sure we understood the community, the amenities, and what living there would actually be like. It felt like she genuinely cared about helping me find the right fit rather than just giving a standard sales pitch on why I should live at the West. Overall, Korey was an excellent leasing agent and made a really positive impression with me right from the start. I appreciated how helpful, patient, and welcoming she was throughout the entire tour. Once I did move in, she continued to show outstanding service and continues to make me feel comfortable with any questions I have! So far, I'm a month in and loving living here! I really didn't want to write this updated review, but I think it's important to inform others of…read moresome of the issues I experienced before ending my lease earlier this year. Before I get to that, Urbana has had many issues since May 2024 when new managers (not management company) came on site. In September of 2024, the fire alarm went off five times. All of them were a false alarm, except for one, and everyone thought it was a false alarm because we were so used to them. This continued on in the months ahead where they would have to do fire alarm testing, which happened at least 3 times in December. There was also a hot water problem. It went on for more than 24 hours, and technically that's considered inhabitable, but they brought us some food from Becca di Beppo to make up for it?! I didn't have hot water for 3 days!! Thank god I was a member at FIT because I went there to shower, but they didn't even give us a rent discount or anything for that month. The "events" were very lackluster compared to what they used to be like Poker Night where they would bring in different casino tables, or a Zoo/carnival day on the rooftop where they actually brought in exotic animals, but those days are gone and now it's a continuous happy hour at a brewery down the street. Their sister property Vici seems to have a lot more events that are akin to what Urbana used to have. I got $11 back from my deposit. My $500 deposit, and I only got back $11. I never painted anything, never even hung up or mounted anything. Everything was in working order. I asked for a breakdown and they said cleaning and "painting the walls." I asked how that's reflected on me since I never even made any holes or nails in the walls and they never got back to me. Also, they used to have bike racks in between cars. They got rid of those because bikes were getting stolen and offered to put some in storage. Well, new management denied my bike was ever in there and when I showed them the email that it was with a picture of my bike, they said that they're not responsible. So, yeah my bike got stolen out of their storage. I really didn't want to leave this review because I had great times at Urbana, but I feel it's warranted.

Absolutely the Worst Living Experience I've Had in 7+ Years…read more I moved into Urbana over seven years ago after calling to ask if the building allowed smoking. The leasing agent said, "Yeah, it's a smoking building. Come on over. You want to check out an apartment? Want a beer?" -- at 11 a.m. That should've been the first red flag. But hey, it's San Diego. People party. And at Urbana, that's what most residents seem to do: drink heavily, act entitled, and leave trash everywhere. Things went from bad to worse. During the pandemic, management showed no concern for resident safety. I had to escalate to upper management just to get hand sanitizer stations installed and basic mask guidelines posted. I was physically attacked in the elevator during COVID -- management's response? Indifference. It gets darker. During the pandemic, there were meth-addicted sex workers living in the building under a stolen identity. It took management forever to do anything about it -- even after repeated complaints. There was also visible gang activity on the sixth floor, because apparently Urbana doesn't really vet who rents there. I was attacked in the lobby by a gang member trying to force his way in, and still, they dragged their feet in taking any meaningful action. More recently, a friend of mine died in his unit from alcohol poisoning. What doesn't help is the 24-hour self-serve beer keg on the rooftop -- yes, really. No ID checks, no oversight. If my kid lived here and got in an accident after drinking at home, I'd be furious. It feels negligent, if not outright illegal. The building is now "autonomous," which means: no front desk, no supervision, and zero accountability. The current property manager, Isaac Stermer, is one of the most inept people I've ever dealt with. He cannot communicate, he delays action until you pester him multiple times, and he clearly doesn't care. When a neighbor left open bags of dog feces in the hallway, it took me three complaints and photo evidence to get a response. There are no security cameras in the elevators. The cameras in the lobby don't even face the front desk. They want to spend money on turning an old office into a "community lounge" instead of improving safety. Priorities are completely backward. Worst of all, when someone dies in the building, they say nothing. No notice, no compassion, no acknowledgment. They'll tell you "we're family," but in reality, they only care about one thing: profit. If you're still thinking of moving here, lock your doors. And don't be surprised if the party never stops, the trash piles up, and management turns a blind eye -- every time.

I wanted a home that felt calm after a long day of work and that included a gas stove top and a spacious living room to host. Because I love to cook, I really wanted a stand alone Island detached from the stove and sink. And finally, I wanted an atmosphere that would bring ease to my weekends as I sit on my balcony and enjoy the calmness after a hectic week or go out for an evening walk to clear my head. I saw some BEAUTIFUL downtown units that had breathtaking views, but the evening outdoor walking experience was what I found missing in all those opportunities. Then, I came across Purl online and without even seeing the unit, I applied based on a few key factors: 1) The greenery of the surrounding community brought the calmness and view I was longing for. 2) The community events on the weekends like the farmers market, evening live music nights at the park and food trucks on Tuesdays. Along with the cute bakery right downstairs. 3) The units included a gas stove top and a detached island 4) You can use all the amenities within the community complexes - a huge plus - but also, the walking trails and park are beautiful. I originally saw Circa 37 and West Park but wasn't blown away by their layouts and design. Westpark's gym was EXACTLY what I was looking for, through, and bc seeing Purl was next, I was really hoping it would be the one. The unit I originally applied for wasn't exactly what I was looking for. Shanell made sure I was able to get a feel of some upcoming units by walking the grounds with me, so I appreciated the effort. Still, there was a unit I was anxiously waiting to see, but it wasn't yet available for viewing and it wasn't available to apply for online. I went back to see more units and this time Michaelann assisted in my tour. She was extremely patient, explained all the layouts and finishes and was able to look into upcoming units. She had promised me that as soon as the unit I wanted was available for viewing, she would call me. Also, she did this all in heels, which is crazy! I was SO excited when I finally saw it. It was exactly what I was looking for! They transferred my application and the steps to complete my requirements for move in were very easy to follow. We had a few hiccups in the beginning with little communication from leasing regarding some questions and maintenance not following through with scheduled dates, but when Kevin got involved, he made sure everything was taken care of that same day and Shanell made sure to follow up by email. My specific unit had a few minor things to note on my move-in inspection, but other than that, the unit was one of the cleanest I've experienced in a new move in. What sets Purl apart is the extremely well designed layout of their units. The closet connecting the bedroom and bathroom is GENIUS - allowing bathroom access from the bedroom and the main home, giving ultimate convenience at any time of the day or when having guests over. The bedroom and closet are very spacious but the KITCHEN is extremely well thought out. Additional cabinetry along the side is ideal as every other complex has missed their opportunity to utilize that space and end up having a blank wall instead. The living room has plenty of space and the open concept from the kitchen into the living room makes the space feel significantly bigger. They had adorable mugs waiting at the kitchen counter on my move in date! And my view is perfect =) Sunset to my left and sunrise to my right! Now that everything is settled, I definitely made the right choice. I even went to see Brynn just in case (and yes, I think Purl blows Brynn out of the water). I am also excited to see what Michaelann plans for the community events!
