Late one Friday evening, I called Astro Pasadena Hotel from my departing flight airport. It would be an hour before I'd arrive in LA so I wanted to check on room availability. My lifestyle doesn't allow for a lot of advance planning as I need to stay flexible to travel for last minute entertainment industry obligations an as actor. When I called the hotel, I heard kindness and willingness to accommodate. The gentleman said, 'call us when you've landed and we'll accommodate you. I have rooms available'. I did just that and when I called back, I spoke with a woman who greeted me with the same kindness. She asked what time I expected to arrive. I knew it would be after 10pm by the time I arrived and she said 'that's fine, we'll be waiting for you.' As a woman traveling alone in the middle of the night, I arrived to a well lit hotel. Though the parking lot was full, the gentleman at the front desk came outside to meet me. He introduced himself and directed me to a quick and acceptable parking solution. He said 'we were expecting you' and checked me in. This was yet another person at the desk and the kindness transferred to the night shift. I appreciated that the woman on the earlier shift had let her shift replacement know to expect me. I felt safe and welcome, again considering I was traveling alone in the middle of the night this put me at ease. Once checked in, the gentleman helped me with my bags and escorted me to my room to make sure my key card worked and I was in safely and satisfied with the room. I was grateful. Pro's: *Check-in is quick and easy *nice, basic & efficient room design *flat screen tv's *kindness and availability of the staff *clean exterior *plenty of closet space *Whole Foods, Sprouts, Target are just a short drive away * Cool fridge in the room * they're very specific about the desire to clean the room everyday even if you're staying longer than one night. The cleaning staff is kind. *Plenty of closet space. Another testament to super smart, efficient design *Super easy access to freeways Con's: *Smoking outside by others. For a non-smoker like myself, if the smell seeps in under the door at times it's not ideal. I just put a towel down at the foot of the door to resolve that. There's no longer any sign of ash trays present to accommodate smokers. *No hangers. Bring your own or lay your things out. *The doors close loudly. That can be startling. *The walls are thin so you can hear laughter or echoes of conversation if above a basic tone of volume. Overall, as an actor, I enjoy this environment. It's a creative space where people come and go and the overall feel is youthful. I've noticed families, groups of friends, various ages and races. There's nothing seedy about this place and the staff is focused on accommodating you. This reminds me of a place you'd find in Japan. Yes, there are burn marks in the mirrors and the paint job is a little sloppy but this isn't the four seasons... yet its definitely better than any chain motel I've experienced. It's got character and its a smart concept. I've since returned on various occasions including one evening when the jacuzzi room was their last availability. They made it work for my budget and were so excited I'd get to experience that special room. The staff wants you to be happy. Stay here. It's cool. If you find something wrong, communicate with the staff kindly. They'll make it right. Seems they have definitely gotten past some of the issues a couple other yelp reviewers have complained about. I stayed here in this "motel" on April 29, 2017 , the rooms are great but my experience with the staff your better off staying somewhere else. My night was ruined because the staff in charge of the night shift allowed my 4 friends to stay n the room for 30 mins as long as the noise was minimal. My 4 friends were checking on me and wanted to spend some time because they were leaving town the next day. The Asian man who permitted them in came knocking after 5 mins saying they all had to leave . He was very unprofessional and lacked the skills to run a motel correctly, I will not be returning here again. read more

Wonderfully helpful staff and the rooms are nice and clean, with modern finishings and design. It's a relatively small motel (think super upgraded motel 6) but has all the basics, including a ton of free movie channels. We would stay again. Our only complaint was the internet crashed for the last day we were there and they couldn't get it fixed in over 24 hours. My guess is that's rare. read more

I was in LA for a concert and didn't plan to stay at a hotel because my generous friend had offered me to stay in her dorm, but I felt like I was a bother and because I know I'll be there to meet my favorite band, I decided to find a hotel and just stay at Pasadena so I can freshen up before the concert and take a short Uber ride back to the hotel. I'm surprised how they actually managed to get me a room. I made a reservation around 2am in the morning and the next day I got to the hotel, it was all prepped and there for me. Everything is amazing there, the people working at the front desk are friendly, the room is well kept and clean, and all of the amenities are fairly new. There are some marks on the mirror... which I find a bit disturbing, if not, everything is worth it. I know I'll be back at LA some time this year and for sure, I'll try to make a reservation at this hotel. Probably gonna try out the suites next time, since it does have a jacuzzi. Honestly, with less than $100 a night, what more can you ask for. read more

I don't usually yelp anymore unless I have a really good or really bad experience. Or, as in this case, when I think it will be of use to other people. This place would've been a three-star except for the price which was *outrageous* for what it was. The rooms are bare-bones, not super clean, cheap scratchy linens but shellacked with retro styling which I guess makes them think that they can charge hotel prices for what is essentially a cheap and run down motel. I don't have any problem with cheap motels per se, but this room smelled to high heaven like bathroom disinfectant - it was burning my eyes it was so strong and it lasted the whole night and gave me a terrible headache. There was a malfunctioning smoke alarm in the room that the proprietor removed, and so much noise from outside that they really should provide earplugs solely based on their proximity to a major thoroughfare. And the room cost $140 bucks. So yeah, 2 stars. read more

The remodeled Astro is pretty nice. Very retro and clean. Two tvs in my room which I enjoyed. In most hotel rooms you hang out in the bed room which I do not like. Here they have spit the room into two parts living and bedroom. The bathtub might be on the living part but it has jets so it's a jacuzzi and an awesome jucuzzi at that. The price was great. They could have put a few more towels In the room though. I would recommend and I will for sure be back. read more

This was a great Hotel. The furniture is clearly new, the carpet was really nice, the furniture is cool as well as the theme in our room and it was not even a big room or a special room. They are all just cool like that. The bathroom was really nice, nice shower, nice little hair dryer in a black velvet bag (I don't know why). I know people complained about the parking but parking is always a pain it's this area. But we love the area with the apartments and the houses and the proximity to all the restaurants. People were nice here and we got parking anyway. Other people's reviews made us a little hesitant but we decided to do it anyway because it was a really good price. Turned out to be a great decision. Really cute furniture and theme to the room. We would definitely stay here again. read more

I was impressed. The outside does not match the inside of this hotel. Friendly service and clean rooms with affordable rates. Can't beat that! Reserved the room with jacuzzi. So worth it!! Spacious room with separate shower and separate bathroom. Room also had a red light. Definitely set the mood and I can't express how clean it was-we all appreciate that. We were pleasantly surprised to find a great looking modern interior belying the unimpressive appearance of the exterior. The room is big with lots of space and is equipped with necessities such as iron/ironing board, coffee maker, fridge, microwave, hairdryer, etc. It is also spotlessly clean and comfortable. The staff are friendly and ready to offer help on the spot. Everyday, the lot is full, indicating that they are drawing customers (some repeat, I hear) just from word of mouth. read more

Absolutely no stars. They claim that we broke the nightstand when we left their hotel which never happened so ridiculous. So unbelievable. Bought the deal on Expedia.com thinking that we would get a good price and turning out they charged me almost double. Worst experience ever! Dead roaches on the inside of the window ceil. The hotel walls are paper thin. The woman next door to my hotel room was having loud sex ALL night long! Multiple men were shuffled in and out of the room. I had to sleep with ear plugs just to try and get rest. Which I did NOT get ANY sleep!! Only to be woken up at 6AM with the guy below me smoking cigarettes in his room which filled up the air ventways and flooded my room!!! I couldn't breathe! When I complained to the front desk guy he told me he was sorry about the inconvenience and that he would refund my money. He later refused after I asked to speak with the hotel owner; I was told that I am not allowed to speak to the owner of the hotel! The good reviews are FAKE! Great hotel for a great price, with a huge tv and a nice kind sized bed, there was no need this room didn't satisfy. The people at the front desk were very friendly, the hotel design and look was cool, and the room was amazing. I did not even get to the place physically. My business trip changed dates, and went to cancel my reservation through booking.com and I was charged the full amount when cancellation was done more than 24 hours in advance. Now, I have blown more money than the cost of the room, but after reading the review's, I'm glad I cancelled. But, who honestly can charge makes someone pay for something they did not get? or use? In my line of work, if it was not done or delivered, the customer does not pay. I will be posting this on FB as well, and hopefully no one else will be robbed for something not delivered.5 thumbs down. read more

If I could give this lame ass motel one star I would. The Korean manager just walks around the parking lot harassing the customers. We arrived late to check in and he made us feel like we were not fit for the "motel". It's a motel that no one stays at and he wants to complain about us parking in the lot. Where are we supposed to park if we're staying here? Then he said that we're not supposed to be there after 9. We paid for the room so we should be able to come and go as we please. Also if we are quiet and considerate we should be allowed to have guest and not have them be harassed. We were not inconsiderate in any way and we were completely quiet. The inconsiderate Korean manager or whatever he is continuously knocked in our door and continued to harass us and knock on our door to tell us we should leave. This is the worst service I have ever received. You will be harassed and made to feel less than by the manger. Seriously! Do not stay at this motel ever!!!!!!!! read more

Worst customer service ever. I made a last minute reservation for intown getaway with my husband and we were in such a great mood until we arrived to check it. This lady ask me for my ID and I let her know that for the time being all I have is my DMV TEMPORARY ISSUED ID and she wouldn't not take it whatsoever. She told me that she needed to have a scannable ID. So I asked my husband to come in and give her his ID(he had been waiting in the car with our baby while I got us settled.) he goes in and she doesn't even bother to scan his ID, she just took a quick glance at it. Then my husband told her that he wanted to pay cash up front although they already had my card on file, which I was okay with BUT THEN she tells my husband that if he wanted to pay cash it was gonna be $200 for the night for a deposit which is only $50 more. He thought that was reasonable until she hands her the $200 and she then says "AND HOW WOULD YOU LIKE TO PAY FOR THE ROOM?". By then my husband had it. We cancelled the reservation and I hope that they don't have the audacity to charge my card a cancellation fee. Anyways if you a to be treated like a decent human being and not get ripped off DO NOT MAKE A RESERVATION AT THIS PLACE!!! read more

Great hotel for the price. Stayed in one of the Jacuzzi rooms. The room was very clean and comfortable. I was told by the front desk that they had just finished remodeling in the past year or so. They really tried to create a modern, chic look & they did a great job. Gray with red really stand out. Huge Tv that I have seen in hotel rooms at around 50" or so. There is an oversized shower in addition to the jacuzzi tub and red led, so that helped with the romance factor. I would definitely recommend this place to couples looking for a day/night-cation. Outside was clean as well as linens and other amenities like small refrigerator (Red One!) and microwave. read more

Loved this hotel. We stay in Pasadena whenever we're headed to LA, so we don't have to stay right in the city. Pasadena's a lot cheaper. This hotel is great! Not too sure when we pulled up, but were pleasantly surprised when we entered our room. The only downside is that there's not pool. (And I'm a hotel snob, but otherwise would've rated a 5 star). Im very impressed with this hotel. I stood here last min and called to see if they had rooms available. It was a okay price ($109tax included)but i didnt mind because it was so modern and clean. Booked a room on hotels tonight for $95, I know what you're thinking, motel! BUT the pictures look exactly like the actual rooms. I was iffy to book because the outside of the hotel looks like a motel lol but if you can get past that I recommend it, the inside of the rooms are hip and new, I would like to say modern. Yeah maybe a chipped paint job here and there, maybe not perfect but for the price what do you expect? Use the pictures as reference as they are actually what they look like as far as deco is. Once you are in there you might see the chipped paint but it didn't bother us at all. we originally got a regular room which was nice but small but we upgraded to a room upstairs with a in-room hot tub!!!!! Yes it was super nice and clean too! Had a little living room with the hot tub and a seperate bedroom and bath. Loved the shower! Walk in and two Rainfall shower heads. The owners were extremely nice and it was only $56 to upgrade to a room with a hot tub. I would suggest taking your own shampoo and conditioner and maybe bubbles for the hot tub :) We payed about $7 on lyft to get to slaters 50/50 so the drive to all the good spots aren't too bad at all, I'm pretty excited to come back and stay in the same room! This place use to be a first choice for hotel stays. My daughter has stayed at the Astro numerous times before and has always had a pleasant experience all the way around until very recently. I made a reservation with them for my daughter and when she arrived and attempted to check in she was told to take her business somewhere else. The man told her one of his house keepers said that the room in which she stayed in during a previous stay I smelled like cigarettes and that he went into the room and told this and confirmed that it smelled as though someone smoked a cigarette in there. My daughter told him she did not smoke a cigarette inside the room she knows the rules it is a non-smoking Hotel and if she wanted a smoking room she would have requested one or had requested to stay somewhere else. She also told them and she does not smoke in side that she prefers to smoke her cigarettes outside. Mind you my daughter has stayed there numerous times before as already stated and never once has she had this issue never once have they experienced this issue with her. I would consider her to be a regular customer for them so for her to be told to take her business somewhere else and not even given the benefit of the doubt considering the situation is very bad customer service and is extremely rude. She did say that the man was very rude and speaking to her and even told her when she stated that she did not smoke in the room he his response was "Are you calling me a liar." Her response back was that she was not calling him a liar but that may be his made a mistake or maybe he was under the wrong impression because she did not smoke in the room and if it did smell like a cigarette it could be from cigarette butts be in the trash can but that was as far as it went for the smell. Mind you she was not calling him a liar but he was calling her one and right away told her to take her business somewhere else when we have spent a good amount of money and stays with them. I call my credit card and next day and find out that they have charged my card for a "no show" they charged me a total cost of a 1 day stay. How could they charge my card when they told my daughter to take her business somewhere else and on top of it say the charge was a "no-show charge" when she in fact did show up and was told to take her business somewhere else. The one day stay in which my daughter was told to take her business somewhere else and now I'm in the process of having that charge waived or getting a refund back because I refuse to pay this place who was extremely rude, extremely unfair and totally unprofessional in a very minor situation that's was a misunderstanding. My advice is be careful if you do choose to stay at this place & become a regular if not already because yes the rooms are updated and they are quite nice & you might have a comfortable stay but a little situation such as ours may happen and you will find yourself to be an unhappy customer with a very rude individual who will not only be rude but will also charge you a good amount money when you shouldn't be charged any money whatsoever. read more
