Last year, the air conditioning barely worked or was out of commission for almost two months. One would think it had been permanently fixed after such a long time. But no -- the a/c is once again non-functioning and I am told that they are working on a new system. But the front desk is unable to provide a time frame. What?? I can't be the only one complaining. This is a premium-priced gym. While I'm forced to complain here, pls also take note that the bathrooms could be better cared for -- I cut my hand twice on a toilet paper holder that was wobbly for months. The two baths in the treadmill area need to be cleaned throughout the day, or at least more frequently. And some of the equipment goes unfixed for way too long. I joined in March and paid nearly $1,000 upfront. At the time I signed up, I was told this payment would cover my April, May, and June gym dues, as well as my daughter's and my pool membership for the entire summer. I was also told that my monthly dues would resume in July. Instead, I have received multiple emails claiming my account is past due and adding late fees. When I asked the employee who signed me up to provide a copy of the agreement or documentation confirming what I was promised, she refused. For over a month, I have repeatedly called and have been told to speak with Shanon. I have left at least five emails and five voicemail messages, yet I have never received a response. When I log into the member portal, I see a balance due with no explanation. I have requested callbacks through the portal and still have not received any response. To make matters worse, every time I go to the pool, I am stopped and told my account has been flagged and that I need to contact the front desk. It is embarrassing and has made both my daughter and me feel unwelcome. We simply wanted to make sure our account was paid correctly and avoid late fees, yet we have been treated as though we are the problem. I eventually had to cancel the debit card I had on file after it was charged for dues that I had already paid in advance. Based on my experience, I strongly recommend not keeping a debit card on file. This entire situation has felt incredibly frustrating and, at times, like a scam. The accounting department has failed to resolve a straightforward issue, and management has been completely unresponsive. I do want to say that I love the pool. The staff there has always been friendly, welcoming, and professional, and the facility is clean. My daughter loves spending time there, and we plan to continue using the pool each summer--but only without a payment card on file because I no longer trust the billing process. Unfortunately, I will not continue my gym membership because I have lost confidence in the accounting department's ability to bill members accurately or resolve problems when they occur. My hope is that someone in leadership reads this, contacts me, explains why this has been handled so poorly, removes the incorrect charges and account flag, and finally resolves my account. read more

Cancelled my my husbands membership and additional chair massage end of March. Told that they would charge additional for the next 30 days. Instead they charged an additional 3 months for membership. So instead of talking to the person that cancelled it they deny it was done.If you look at overall reviews of this there seems to be a common complaint. No paperwork is given at the time you close it. I would seriously reconsider joining this club as reviews about this practice are not good. read more

Since Genesis took over the club is going downhill. Atlantic Club had a maintenance man in the AM - gone. Company who cleans up and cleans towels - lessened. People who work front desk fold towels now. Things not working - frequent. Looks like the club was acquired by Genesis to cut costs to make money. read more

I have been a member for over 25 years, beginning in Manasquan and then transitioning to Red Bank in 2005. I visited Manasquan for the first time in several years today and I was shocked at the level of disrepair evident everywhere in the club. The men's locker room was particularly disappointing, and the showers were frankly unsanitary and covered in mold. What was once a lifestyle club with immaculate facilities is now substandard to the $29/month clubs. It's embarrassing to be a member of the Atlantic Club now. read more

Have played tennis here on and off for years. They don't enforce timing so very often you'll have someone lingering after their time is up on the court, or breathing down your neck when you still have 5 minutes left in a lesson. Instructors are mostly pretty good. They come and go frequently which is inconvenient and disruptive. We have made 4 asks within a month to just have someone call us to schedule and they just do not ever follow up. This has happened many times over the years. If someone wants to spend money with you, why are you forcing them to chase you down? I wish there were someplace else in the area. read more

As soon as you arrive, smiles all around greet you at the Front Desk. The front desk staff are rude, unprofessional, and gossip about the guests that members bring to the facility. I didn't realize it was so slow since ownership changed that making comments was factored into their salary. Although at first the property seems large, upscale and impressive once you are a member and can get a more up close look you begin to see something else. A parking lot full of potholes and you may spend 15 minutes searching for a spot as if you are looking for a spot at the beach on a summer day. The locker rooms are not very clean. Showers are old and often moldy. The filtered water fountain in ladies locker room has not worked for the past 8 months. The only water available appears to be tap. There is not signage that states it is even filtered. Much of the gym equipment is very old. The temperature is very cold even freezing. They are definitely trying to save money. I also cannt believe they have the nerve to charge extra for massage chairs with how expensive they are. What finally set me over the edge was having the pickleball center falsely charge my card and being told I must wait 4 weeks for a refund. This place is not worth the huge monthly price!! read more

Fantastic place with LOTS of different activities, classes, and lots of space. VERY expensive. Yes, they have many small towels for gym use, and larger ones for the locker room and showers, pools, etc. I don't use any tennis, pickleball, or the group classes. The Spin classes used to be GREAT and may still be. But my schedule has changed... One would expect a parking lot with less potholes and legible parking space painted lines; but the parking lot and the grounds keeping has been neglected. There is an appearance of high class but for what they charge, the pool area is rather old...the weight room has mostly older equipment; they do seem to be updating some of their bicycling and treadmills, etc..but they are so slow at it....they are always a couple years behind with their equipment updates....Why should Work Out World have newer and better equipment than The Atlantic Club...????? It seems management is currently seeking to save money. Maybe something about the clientele: Older people and their grandchildren home from college. Unfortunately many of the classes' time scheduling are not suitable for my schedule...if I didn't have to work, I'd be golden! It seems the ones I wanted to do are when I work. The trainers on duty are often talking amongst themselves, or on their phones...as often as they are putting weight room equipment in order...they will certainly answer your questions about certain exercises, or how to use equipment All the employees are courteous and very friendly and helpful. The clothing/gear store doesn't have much I can use. Mostly women's apparel and accoutrements. There is a point system that I have yet to figure out...one accumulates points for purchases and just checking in at the front desk. Men's locker room: Although there are plenty of lockers, the layout is horrendous, and I hear about it almost every time I am in there: Not enough room to dress. The rug is nasty in the locker area. Someone replaced an old shower nozzle with a nice newer one but left the loose spigot handle sitting there without fixing it. There must be an attitude of indifference in the workers... I really like the place, but for the amount they charge....OY ! Yes, it is cool to see lots of expensive cars in the parking lot, but don't their owners care about how TAC is going downhill? read more

Playing mixed doubles is a little easier than singles , but most of the leagues are doubles not singles, due to the high cost court times. Of course in the summer they are cheaper. I have been using Yelp for 6 years, this will be my first bad Yelp Review which is reflection of how poorly run The Atlantic Club is. The membership services at Atlantic Club are horrific and borderline fraudulent. My membership expired 8/31/20. I am continuing to get billed from the club on a monthly basis. I have reached multiple times to staff members to put an end to this and I still continue to get billed. Additionally, this gym is not worth the money. It is extremely old and run down. It looks like a relic of the early 1990's. The locker rooms are very dated and the equipment is extremely old, so old that there are tears in the upholstery. Furthermore, it gets very crowded making it unbearable to get a good work out in. DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND REQUEST A TRIAL MEMBERSHIP SO YOU CAN SEE THIS ATROCITY FOR YOURSELF. Absolutely horrific customer experience. AC operates with such arrogance as it relates to membership renewal process. The COO thinks he's running a fortune 50 company and not a local wellness center supporting a local community. My family's been members for 8 years. My wife's decided to leave after not using the club for 6 months. AC has a sneaky " evergreen" renewal clause, it automatically renews for a full year, and refused to let her out of a contract she had no idea she was in. They saw on the computer she wasn't using it for half a year and automatically renewed it. For myself, post COVID-19, the very reasons I remained a member they have discontinued. Locker room access, towel service, basketball court, sauna. The monthly fee has stayed the same ! It's now a basic gym with zero premium attributes. Quality of services, member benefits went way down while prices increased annually and sometime twice a year. We finally gave up our membership and joined another club. This club is ok, certainly overpriced for the services they offer but they do have the only pool in the area. The issue tat has me on the verge of quitting is the fact that they do NOT have high definition televisions in the cardio area. Only 1 tv is high def and that is dedicated to their,"MyZone" campaign which is basically an overpriced heart rate monitor. I would have given 5 stars but recently, they've shown that customer service is not their top priority. I've been at the club for less than one year and since then, they have discontinued services that were supposed to be part of the membership. In addition, the women's room sauna has been broken for 3 months. And members were just notified that despite the decline in services, they're increasing member fees starting in March 2019. Three weeks ago, I sent a professional email to the COO, Kevin McHugh, and the CEO, Patricia Laus, to discuss these changes and express my disappointment. Neither have responded. read more

Liked the club. The ladies spa has hairy issues. Seems every time i went there's a wad of hair trapped by the steps. I asked about it and a special man? is supposed to service it. Yup. Sometimes they tell you to move from pool for their classes or to not splash.? Yup. But hopefully that wont happen again. The outdoor pool is very nice but last summer the filter was broke and that was hairy for two weeks but then they fixed it. Yup. Thank goodness! The Service staff are excellent. Had great outdoor food service. The work out machines get crowded and the free weight area is small but people looked happy there. The lockers get crowded and people are sometimes a little rude and use their cell phones by /in (yup) the ladies sauna/spa I think I'd like to try Red Bank to see if it is better. read more

There is nothing like their Manasquan facility in all of central Jersey in my opinion. I have been coming here for many years and have always taken full advantage of everything they have to offer, from excellent group fitness classes, to the multiple pools, hot tub, steam room, basketball court, tennis lessons, etc. It's worth the $100+/month if you really enjoy using it and appreciate the sense of community there. Once you're a regular, you truly become part of the Atlantic Club community which includes feeling at home with the fitness instructors, trainers, and other members. I have been a member at many gyms in the past, and I never felt so at home as I have with TAC in Manasquan. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because they could do a better job at replacing old/falling apart fitness equipment/accessories, like mats, and it would help if they switched the lockers to have digi-locks instead of having to bring your own locks. Other than that, it is a super clean facility with towels available in the fitness areas and locker rooms, cafe, places to lounge and hang out...really can't complain. I was a member for over a year and accumulated over 1,000 points from doing social media check-ins and making purchases at their juice bar. A few months after I canceled my membership, they would not let me redeem my well-earned points. When I asked them about this they told me their policy had changed. They had let me redeem some of my points after I canceled the 1st time I went in but the 2nd time I went in I'm being told about this "new policy and could not longer redeem them." I was considering going back and joining their other location instead where I would be able to go more to get my money's worth. After this event, I would not ever go back and don't recommend them. I paid over $1300 during my time as a member and I was entitled to the $50 in gift cards from the points I worked hard to earn. Who knows what policy they would randomly change next. read more

Tennis courts can be found in three separate locations on the property. The grounds, which are beautiful, are extensive, and there is plenty of parking. Staff were very welcoming and helpful. I like it. It's got everything you want and more in a gym. The people are nice. There is even an outdoor pool with a bar that serves food/drinks to u at ur chair/table. If your looking for a place that blasts music and has kids with metal through their tongues and eyelids at the door this isn't for you. Lots of classes. It's huge. They have daycare, basketball, racquetball court every conceivable thing you can imagine in the gym you want. There's even a top rated beauty salon and a chiropractor's office there if u want to use it. read more

State of the art health club and fitness area. New equipment has recently arrived in the fitness room and a new indoor saline pool under renovation (opens in Sept) cannot wait! I have been a member in good standing for five years. In June I met with Frankie to initiate a freeze on my membership for July and was told all the paperwork was done. I had no internet for over 2 weeks and once I was able to check my bank account, discovered the Atlantic Club deducted a complete monthly fee from me. It took 5 phone calls between their billing department and Frankie and essentially I was told they could not credit my banking account but credited for next months cycle. Billing department claims they never got the paperwork and the representative (Frankie) indicated the hold was in place. Finger pointing abounds with no customer satisfaction as a result. They could've handled this situation much better. Obviously I'm just a number "don't you know how many people I speak to every day? We have 6,000 members." Extremely poor communication skills and obvious problem with their billing system. As of September 1st, they will have ONE less member and I'll certainly NOT recommend this place. read more

I have continually been harassed for simply swimming in the complex pool.I find the the chlorination levels are lower and do not affect my skin adversely , as is the case with the pool in the main building.I am a PAYING MEMBER and find it incomprehensible that I am restricted from any activity at a club which I give Money to.In fact a petition was passed around to keep me out of the modified Tuesday and Thursday Masters Swim, which I find not only despicable, but highly discriminatory.I have been a member since 1980, over thirty years , and this is the way I am treated.My disappointment with the club and its management I find very unprofessional and stressful.The purpose of clubs of this nature is to provide stress relief and relaxation. I remain a member because of the convenience of the location, with hope that things will change for the better. read more
