We actually stopped into The Lodge (in Tawas) and had terrible service. We left and stopped into T&C because of the great reviews and proximity to where we were. On 5/3/2026 we took our friend out for his 86th birthday and ordered their Large Jumbo Shrimp dinner. We ordered 3 plates of Jumbo Shrimp. What we received was butterfly cut small Shrimp that were over cooked. Had a group of about 10 of us. It was not the waitress fault, but the Anchor Pub in Au Gres MI has very bad Shrimp Plate dinners. read more

Pizza constantly burned, couldn't follow reasonable instructions for toppings. We had asked specifically and verified EXTRA SAUCE. 40 mins later after getting the take out order home, it has ZERO/NO SAUCE. Pizza toppings were also cut random sizes.. as if 3 different people cut 5 different vegetables 2 days apart from each other. Giant piece of onion that was half cooked next to a tiny mince of green pepper that turned to mush. A "large" pizza was only 13" across... when asked about it, staff simply said, "well we use pre-made dough and just roll it out, but it's 10 slices." I can cut a 5" pizza into 10 slices too, doesn't make it a "Large". I/m also unsure how you both manage to burn a pizza and still have it be floppy and soggy. "Fish and chips" perch dinner is atrociously undersized at only 3, 3" filets for over $15. Staff didn't seem to know what was ever going on, confused and occasionally rude when problems were brought to their attention; only made excuses. Just don't. Was good enough as T&C Sports Lounge... new place just plain sucks. It was clean inside, which was good- although that ought not to be a standard to strive for, but just expected. What's worse is that my brother and a few friends had similar, separate experiences and I guess I figured it had to be a fluke. Nope... this place just isn't good. I/d chalk it up to growing pains of a new business, but they previously named bar and grill at this location had a decent thing going. Redecorate, give us some drink specials and otherwise as far as the kitchen is concerned, keep doing what they were doing. But no. They didn't do that. Owner says he has multiple restaurants/bars and gives the impression as an entrepreneur that he should know how to run a business.. he's either not involved or simply not very good at this. On Yelp here, most if not all of the positive reviews are from before current owner/name and rebranding. Look at review dates. Anchor Pub is relying on positive reviews of the previous business operating at this location. read more

We stopped by for dinner after a family fishing trip. BIG mistake. Disappointed doesn't begin to describe the lack of food quality, service, and value. We wasted over $80 of our hard earned money here. Our hamburger orders were prepared all wrong, tacos arrived stone cold: ground beef dry and tasteless devoid of seasoning far from fresh. Meat had obviously been cooked long ago and sitting in some container long enough for the edges to turn. A few slivers of lettuce, a tsp of shredded cheese, a tbsp of jarred salsa. Abysmal. We should have sent all our orders back. But we didn't, ate some of it & called it a day. They still have a LOT of kinks to work out here. We won't be back to see if they do. We have been here many times since the newer management refreshed its decor. We find it pleasant and enjoyed sandwiches, burgers, pizza& flat breads. In Aug 2025 we took friends and everyone at table enjoyed their fried perch. read more

Food was good. Nice atmosphere except for nasty language by some patrons. (Children present). Bartender was too busy to serve the bar patrons and serve the floor drinks and therefore we didn't get very good service - but she was working hard. Not her fault. read more

Giving one star because the food and drinks are very good and reasonably priced. Generous portions. BUT...... The wait staff needs serious training. The wait time from seated to eating was- once again - over an hour. It would make sense if it was very busy- they were not. Multiple servers, many EMPTY tables. The kitchen seems to have an issue with getting food out in an orderly fashion. A more minor issue, each time I ask for the home made chips and I'm always served fries. We've eaten there 10 times in the last 2 months. All the waitstaff seem new each time we are there; with the exception of the young tall male waiter. The waitstaff leaves a lot to be desired. From what I've been told (by the staff) anyone can serve any table at any time. I'm sure that seems like a nice idea- it appears to be causing some issues with attentiveness. While all the staff have been friendly- they are negligent. (With the exception of the young male) They never check in to see if we need anything. Every time our drinks run out we have to flag someone down to get more. On several occasions we've had to remind our waitress we requested more beverages. This contributes negatively towards the overall lengthy wait experience. If a server is attentive it's less noticeable. Maybe throw out a loss leader of chips and dip. ‍ Do Something about the problem. As it is currently, we always feel forgotten. Since there are few other options for eating out, and as a local business owner- we want to support our fellow entrepreneurs- we choose to return ... for now. Overall, the new decor, creative menu, good food and drinks are all a positive experience. Great food! I've had the perch dinner & it was very good with regular fries no the seasoned kind. The mac & cheese is homemade with white cheddar, very tasty. I had the BBQ chicken breast on the side also very good. I've also had the huge wet burrito- excellent. The burgers are always good. I 've a lot of food here & I've liked it all. My pizza was as I ordered and very good. Fried oreos are good too- never had those before. The staff is friendly & very accommodating. Clean restrooom. read more

Came back to give it a try after the new owners have had some time to settle in. Right off the bat the menu is different (much smaller) and they do not have pitchers of beer. Let me just assure you, this is a pitcher of beer crowd. They don't have a kids selection at all so I spent $13 for a grilled cheese and $15 for chicken tenders and fries. Our waitress seemed super salty so I didn't order my normal "burger" which is just all the veggies on a bun. They now charge $0.50 each for pickles, lettuce, tomatoes and onion so I thought if I told them about my normal I would be in for a $20 sandwich and I just didn't want a fight. I ordered the pickle chips and they were so salty they were inedible. The grilled cheese was "okay", which is not what I wanted to hear for $13. My husband used to LOVE the T&C burger, this time he said it was not great. The bun was a cold brioche roll and the burger, ordered medium rare, was not. The chips were salty, and the $1.50 upgraded fries were cold. I never understand why new owners come in, and change stuff rather than just continue on the good trajectory the restaurant had going - in this instance they removed 1/2 the tvs and changed the menu. But for a $100 meal, we won't be back. read more

I understand we came in a little late for food but we are paying customers on our vacation. Food was ok at best. 20.00 jumbo shrimp was NOT jumbo. All portions were small besides pizza. First they are new owners and they invested in a remodel that is nice, they made it into a bar not a restaurant... the food orders are slow, limited, and simply sub standard. I ordered four (4) meals to go and a Guinness ... I paid and no Guinness on tap no one had hooked up a new keg, barrel, can who knows. Settled for a Smithwick Red in the glass cooler... not very cold. Food took a long time .. an hour.. now 80% of the tables were occupied but I was the only one at the bar. When I got home: 1. The perch sandwich & onion rings was two tiny filet that would barely cover a cracker & a piece of lettuce not even an appetizer. 2. Chicken tenders & fries blah 3. Anchor Burger & fries ... healthy serving 4. Burrito .... Actually good well plated pleasing to the eye So only one meal was good the rest were bland, not remarkable if not cheap poorly prepared pre cooked yuck. Our party went to dinner last night in good spirits and left wondering what we'd done wrong. Had we said something that set off our server as menus were distributed? Did she take offense that we asked for water with our drink order? Are we too old looking? Were her shoes too tight? What? What? What? We have been customers for years at the T&C. The food is good, the drinks are cold, and we live nearby, but this was the first time that a server's mystery ire became an issue. We arrived at about seven and the place closes at eight. The Thursday night crowd was not overwhelming, and our table was nothing but polite (our family had owned a restaurant and bar for over 50 years in Lansing- we know how tough dealing with the public can be). All of us easily felt the her animosity as orders were taken and delivered without the usual follow-up drop-by asking about how everything is, or are drink refills needed. We joked among ourselves that the other server seemed pleasant and attentive to her tables while it was just our luck that we got the "short straw". Despite repeated "please" and "thank you's" the entire meal, the take home boxes and check that we asked for were were tossed on the table and we were apparently left to haul our sorry backsides out- at least we didn't hear a "Don't let the screen door hit you.... We'll be back. It ended up an off-night for us (and definitely for our server). I just thought that I'd air our unhappiness with having a server visit her unhappiness upon us for some reason. I hope that if management has had similar comments that they look to address her behavior, or at least carve out a time-out room for cranky staff. read more

OMFG, our favorite road trip place to stop in. Sometimes we stop coming back from up north & sometimes we make the trip just to eat there. Burgers are phenomenal! Wings, nachos & chicken sandwich all sooo good! Honestly have never had anything bad here. That's just the food!! Drinks. Once again OMG! Bartender is Ah-maZing!!! Drinks are mixed perfectly. We had a delicious lunch today. Everything was tasty, burgers were amazing. I am a great fan of hot soup. They served a Chicken Enchilada soup that was over the top. UnAmerican. Told we cannot be served outside so my girlfriend decided to grab a notepad and be our server. After taking 10 minutes to be our server she goes inside to place the order then they tell us that we cannot eat outside of the establishment.... how absurd! We had a group of 12 folks and all wanted to eat but the employees at this restaurant were INCREDIBLY inflexible and told us to leave. We eat here quite often and have never had a bad meal. The pizza is delicious do yourself a favor and get the cheesy bread also. The burgers are one of the best that you can get in the area.
