Classic northern michigan bar. Pool table, keno, touch tunes and $1.75 PBR on draft, what more could you ask for.

Coco Cabanas Restaurant and Nightclub - All American Club Grinder

We've driven past this joint for years, and to be quite honest it's been the joke or "running gag"…read moreof our friend group due to the concept of it being a dive bar/night club in the middle of nowhere. The day came when we finally gave this place a shot, and let me tell you what... The joke was on us... The initial dining experience was typical of a local dive bar, however it wasn't until our food arrived that my Hanes X-temp, low cut ankle socks were blown right off. It was like when you first discover the Nickelback and Creed songs that never got radio play... You think to yourself "Holy cow how is everyone hating on these bands?" That was the exact feeling I got at Coco Cabana's in West Branch Michigan. "Maybe we've always poked fun at this joint because deep down we knew we would end up liking it..." Anyway, I got the All American club grinder which was top notch. The 6-1/2" sandwich was a generous portion. Honestly I could've done without the fries, but I'm glad I got them because they were fried to perfection. The house made bread was excellent. I read a review some clown left about the grinder having "too much bread." Hey buddy if you're reading this, go eat an Uncrustable. It's a friggen submarine sandwich, it comes on a loaf of bread... That's like ordering tomato soup and complaining about it tasting like tomatoes. Overall, I was very pleased with our dining experience and will definitely be returning soon.

The food is what brings us in. Never in the 15 yrs we've been eating there, we've never had a bad…read moremeal. The staff are naturally friendly and the owners really want their customers to be happy. I don't like bars or bar food, CoCo Cabananas serve alcohol yes, but the food is excellent. They have weekly specials which are the best! For example, last week the special was a 14 oz ribeye and a lobster tail, can't get that anywhere in town. Try them and you'll come back, I promise!

Visited on a Friday evening around 5:30 PM and unfortunately left with mixed feelings…read more Service: We waited nearly 20 minutes before anyone came to take our drink order. That said, a younger employee named William stepped up and did his best to help manage what was clearly a chaotic and disorganized situation -- he deserves recognition for that. Food: We kept it simple with burgers and fries. The burger itself was decent, but the pretzel bun was a real miss -- brioche would be a much better choice and would elevate the whole experience. The fries were fine, nothing special. The ranch dressing, however, was genuinely unpleasant -- easily the low point of the meal. Atmosphere: Right around 6:00 PM, a live band started up. For a restaurant setting, that felt far too early -- most venues wait until around 7:30 PM before live music kicks in. The result was that conversations became nearly impossible, customers were shouting to be heard, and servers were struggling to take orders accurately. It added to an already disorganized environment. Worth noting: Fox News was running on the TVs, which may matter to some guests. The Positives: The place was clean, and the golf course is genuinely beautiful and well maintained. However, I did notice some significant trimming of the pine trees -- hopefully they don't continue cutting them up that high, as the natural wooded feel is a big part of the appeal up there. Bottom line: Hard to recommend for dinner. The golf course is the real draw here.

Really nice bar/restaurant. The food is what you would expect if ordering from a bar "but more"…read more Nice selection of food choices where the quality of the food is quite good where the price will not break the bank. For my first meal here I got the 1/2 lb barbecue bacon cheese burger and chips. Burger qualified as a two hander for sure where the meat was well cooked, very juicy and with nice taste. No overcooked dry burger here. The house wine I ordered was a smooth daily drinker for $5.50 which I could drink all day long. Relative to staff and the facility, this Bar fits the perception of what you think of when thinking of your stereotypical "Up North" bar. Wood on the wall, wood on the ceiling with log beams, Wood accents everywhere to include a live edge wood counter top with log structure in the middle of the bar adjacent to the pool table. Even though it has this rustic design it is a very clean and inviting on the inside adding so much to the overall dining experience. Nice! Aside from the rustic decor, there are quite a few TV's located throughout the bar/restaurant making this a nice place to go for a bite to eat while watching the big game. Relative to staff, very friendly and prompt with good follow up and clearly another strength of this business. Overall, good food at a fair price with a nice casual ambiance is hard to beat, especially on game day. If you are in the greater Oscoda area this is definately a restaurant that should be checked out. There are not that many restaurants in this area that offer you the quality and value for a meal that this business does.
