Nice little Irish pub in the middle of Vaihingen! We went on a Sunday for breakfast. Bonus we can get Sunday breakfast -- if you live in Germany, you know! People were fantastic and the food even better! Couldn't have asked for a better breakfast. The portions are not shy either! I dig the ambiance there and it's fitting that I write this review as I'm sitting in the airport awaiting my flight to Dublin so we'll have to see how similar the Irish breakfast is there! We had heard about this place a few times and finally went. I wish we had gone the first time! This place is amazing! I can't believe I'm the first review! Logistics...there is street parking, if you can find it. We parked at the Swabian . It was a couple blocks away. Reservations...if it's just a couple or double date you may be okay if you go early or don't mind sitting at the bar. There is the main bar but then a few smaller 4 top bar like tables. The tables were mostly reserved. Saturday night at 8... Call for a table. Service...everyone spoke English but in a swoony Irish accent. Sure, do call me lass and darling! On top of the drinks, food was hot when it hit the table, and quick with requests. They keep track of your order on your coaster so you can easily see how many you've had. You also don't have to wait for them to bring the check. When you're done just head up to the bar to pay and be on your way! Drumroll please.... The food...oh...my...goodness. It was amazing! We got an order of cheese nachos. No, seriously, cheese nachos at an Irish bar in Germany that I feel the need to gush about. How could cheese and chips be so amazing? I have no freaking idea but they were. The tortilla chips were homemade, possibly baked because there were no traces of oil. They were seasoned kinda like Doritos but more like Doritos made by angels. They were topped with Irish Cheddar. That was it. Salsa was served on the side but why? Anything would have ruined this amazingness. There were four adults and it was plenty big for us. Celtic burger...seasoned beef patty, Irish cheddar, and sautéed onions. One of the best burgers I've ever had! Perfectly grilled, bursting with flavor, sweet but not obnoxious onion taste. The portion was large and even though I was full about halfway I championed on. I added bacon...because I'm stupid. It didn't need bacon. I am a bacon rights activist and believe bacon belongs on every plate but in this case, bacon could have taken the night off. After one bite, I took the bacon off and saved it for later. I don't care how full you are...leave no bacon behind. It was served with fresh cut fries. Not soggy but not crispy. The taste was fresh not bagged. Some kids at the next table had massive waffle fries. I will be getting those next time. The main attraction is burgers. They have salads, wraps, breakfast platters on the weekends, shepherds pie, and Irish stew. Do yourself a favor and get a mind blowing burger. read more

Checked this place out since it's one of two bars in the Stuttgart area that does play American sports (mostly football). They also have number of events that go on during the week. I've ordered the Auld Rogue burger, which was ok, and the fish and chips, pretty good. Wasn't a fan of the dressing they put on the salad, which I should have paid more attention. Like the fact I can get a Guinness or whiskey here. The staff here seem like a good bunch and they let me pay with a credit card without giving me a hard time. This place would be four, but they have a small bar with an odd layout and I kept getting bumped from people passing through. I'll still stop in and try some of the events. read more

This was the funnest Irish bar I have ever been to! The bar tenders were amazing and full of life especially Roy! They had a special going on which were ribs for 14 euros and they were cooked so perfectly that the meat fell off the bone! Great time and I highly recommend stopping by! The food was hot and definitely cooked to order. I got the fish and chips and it didn't sit in the back waiting to be delivered under a heat lamp. Our waitress brought it straight to the table. The service was amazing. Our waitress was really busy but made sure that my Guinness was never empty. The bar can get a bit crowded and they tend to squeeze different groups together. The place could use a good cleaning with all the foot traffic and rain. Other than that, no complaints. read more

Awful, smelly inside, poorly vented, your clothes will stink within 20 minutes. Would have never ever effen gone to that shithole if it weren't for trying to find a place in Stuttgart (yes, civilized Germany) to watch my premiere league match. Not to mention, why on earth would anyone go to a shitty Irish pub in Germany, a land where the beer, food and Brew Houses are Grade A and business owners actually have class, unlike this classless shithole with a subhuman for owner/manager whoever the eff he was. Anyway, this was the only place that showed EPL matches - no audio of course due to trivia night - in the area, the other 3 Irish pubs I googled are all out of business and now it makes sense. Came in, sat at the bar and the place was full. Good classical Irish rough n tumble pub which is ok for me, just give me my beer, sat quietly to enjoy my match. So I had a few Killian's which were great, I have to say this was the only ...only quality of the night. Had a burger and it was just ok, I was starving but the whole burger was, was all lumped together with no quality or effort of I'm used to in Germany (this was my 30th trip to that great Land) and I know the area very well. The burger had no distinct or unique flavor, meat, bun, fries, ketchup and steak sauce and this was very spicy. Now, I like hot foods but man it has to have some flavor.. but this shitty burger had none, but working all day and starving, looking so much forward to finally watching Football in (what I thought) nice pub, was supposed to have been the highlight of my day.. No effen way.. Finally, adding insult.. was the manager chatting with another employee pointing to me because my team wasn't playing well. Both lowlives looked at me and smirked, they looked my direction and I had no idea what it was about. Ive never seen these scumbags before other than coming this first and last time. Great food, great service! As an American family visiting Stuttgart, we found The Auld Rogue to be a delightful and delicious place for a meal. Our two kids (11 and 14) enjoyed their first meal here so so much that they asked to go back a second time for their last meal in Germany before flying home. I thin a big part of that was that the wait staff greeted us in English and they could understand the entire menu. My favorite dish was the Shepherd's Pie and I enjoyed their beer selection immensely. Next time we're in Stuttgart, we'll definitely make a return trip! read more

Looking for a place where the default language is English (with an accent)? Do you like air conditioning, great drinks and tasty food? Auld Rogue is a place that doesn't disappoint. My husband and I have eaten here many times, never an issue. We typically get the burgers, I get a Radler or cider and my husband gets beer. I've come with a large group (11 people) and everyone was happy with their food - fish and chips, club sandwich, burgers - all great. It's a child friendly place with fast and friendly service. Not a ton of street parking, but that's pretty much all of Vaihingen anyway. It's a nice walk from Patch and there are garages nearby. It's also a good walk from the Vaihingen S/U Bahn station. read more

Really I need to leave two reviews. As a bar, 5 stars. Go for beer and the big TV sets and trivia. The servers all speak English and the menu is in English so Americans who are scared to venture out feel comfortable here. As an eatery, meh. The service is so slow that the only way to have a satisfying experience would be to arrive while you ate still full from the lady thing you ate. Do not even think about bringing hungry children here. Only tears and tantrums lie down that road. If you have any dietary restrictions, be explicit when ordering and don't rely on the menu for accuracy. I ordered something that did not list cheese as an ingredient and yet it arrived smothered in cheese. Whoops. I should have asked. Our second visit was disastrous and our kids got the wrong food twice and our appetizer was also wrong. So as an eatery I'd give it 2 stars. I'd go back, but only for drinks and only with adults. For the food alone, I'd probably give this place 1.5 to 2 stars, but the atmosphere and friendly servers bump it up to 3. It's a small, cozy bar and English is the language spoken by default--which means a lot of Americans come here. They do play NFL on Sundays which is nice, but they blast the broadcast (which is in German) at an unnecessary level and only play one game(there are 2 TVs). There servers are all very friendly and fun to talk to but the service is extremely slow--even by German standards. But on to the food: multiple people told me to come here for the burgers and that they were the best. I honestly don't know what they were talking about. The patties are of the pre-formed, frozen variety and have the taste and texture of a school cafeteria. I guess there's some nostalgia there, just not the kind I'm looking for. The fries (chips) are equally bad, if not worse. They have the oddest sweet taste to them, almost like sweet potato fries or old oil that is also used for donuts... I really can't figure them out. I just avoid them. The steak sandwich comes out as an awkward slab of grey meat that is also flavorless with some caramelized onions. No lettuce, tomato or sauce. It is very hard to eat as a sandwich as the meat is a big, tough slab. The fish and chips dish is surprisingly small (most of the portions here are huge!) with only one skinny piece of fish that tasted OK if not the freshest. In short, go here for the atmosphere, beer and maybe NFL, but eat somewhere else first. read more

My daughter and I tried this place on a whim around 1900 on a Friday- I would suggest if you have kids to go earlier and maybe not at the start of the weekend. As we were finishing it got a bit rowdy but that could be expected given its a pub/bar! I didn't have an issue. We just finished up and left. My daughter said the chicken coujons were the best she has ever had! And I really enjoyed my pulled pork sandwhich. Service was great. This place is cash only. I didn't know that going into it. But the owner and server were very kind and patient with me when it came time to pay with all that I could find at the bottom of my purse. Great atmosphere and exactly what you'd expect of an Irish pub. Pub fair is quite good but if you ask, they will try to meet some unique party needs. Attended a Burns Supper here and the chef went over the top with his rendition of haggis. Best haggis I've ever had and NOT on the regular menu. The Auld Rogue is an all around great place. You come in and you're welcomed by at least one of the staff. If there isn't space available right away you usually get reassured that within a few minutes something should come available, and they don't forget about you! Service is fast and friendly, the menu is wonderful (fresh!) pub food at fair prices and their daily special menu is fantastic... Ranging from an irish stew to tasty ribs. They even offer beer and whiskey tastings (reservation recommended because they sell out of tickets fast) which are well organized and you can tell they take their time picking out the different drinks. Tried a few of the mixed drinks and beer they have available. The hefeweizen is on par with all others. The places seems to be the best around to watch college and American football if that's your interest. The homemade Kartoffelecken, or potato fries if you will, are pretty amazing. I've been in the Stuttgart area for 10 days now. The meal I had at this pub was the worst food I've had since I've been here. The cheeseburger was completely overdone. The bun plain and dry so I just ate the meat and cheese. The pattie was so overdone that I could barely get my fork through it. It didn't taste like 100% beef either. I've had soy burgers before .... I know what I'm tasting. The French fries tasted a little off too - like the oil they were fried in was funky. I didn't feel like a beer, so I ordered a coke. I asked straight away if they charged for a second. They didn't answer my question and filled up the glass. In fact they did - 2 cokes = 7 €!?! That's more than beer! The only passable item on my plate was the salad. 23.50 € for a crappy burger, fries, small salad and 2 cokes...one of which I would not have ordered had they answered my question. Maybe this place would be passable to have a beer and play trivia JUST DONT EAT DINNER THERE. Never again!!! read more
