I brought my vehicle to Auto & Tire Doctor in Truckee for an oil change and tire rotation. After the service was completed, I spoke with Daniel at the front desk and mentioned a concern about making sure the under-body panel used during the oil service had been properly secured. During that conversation, I happened to notice that my tires did not appear to have been rotated correctly. I had requested a tire rotation, and Daniel confirmed that it had been performed. However, upon inspecting the vehicle, I could see that the passenger-side tires had been swapped front-to-back while the driver-side tires had not. I was able to identify this because the tires on my vehicle have different tread patterns, making it easy to determine whether they had been moved. When I pointed this out, Daniel initially maintained that the tire rotation had been completed. After I showed him the difference between the passenger and driver sides, I was given several explanations regarding tire placement, vehicle handling, and concerns about the condition of my tires. None of those explanations addressed the fact that one side of the vehicle had clearly not been rotated. Eventually, another employee stepped in, acknowledged that the driver-side tires may have been missed, and immediately offered to bring the vehicle back into the shop to correct the issue. I appreciated that he took responsibility and worked to resolve the situation. My concern was not the mistake itself. Mistakes happen. What I found disappointing was the response when the issue was brought to Daniel's attention. Rather than simply acknowledging the possibility of an oversight and correcting it, I felt my concerns were dismissed and met with repeated explanations that did not address the actual problem. During the interaction, Daniel also made comments about wanting to "get this lady out of here" and referred to it being "Tuesday" while discussing the situation with staff. Whether intended that way or not, the comments came across as dismissive and unprofessional, particularly while I was trying to resolve a legitimate concern regarding work that had not been completed. To the shop's credit, the tire rotation charge was removed from my bill, and the work was ultimately completed correctly. I appreciate the employee who stepped in, acknowledged the issue, and resolved it. Based on this experience, I would encourage customers to verify that all requested services have been completed before leaving and to carefully review any work performed on their vehicle. read more

I have been taking our cars to this establishment for oil changes consistently for several years. They have always been able to get us in without an extremely long wait. Never gave us a reason to use the other oil change place across town. This all changed yesterday. As I drove to work after my vehicle's oil change I noticed a weird feeling on the left hand side of my steering wheel. I couldn't quite figure out what I was feeling until I got to my work's parking lot. I got out to find the leather of my steering wheel gashed up. Either cut by a tool or something clipped to an employee's belt. After I finished my work meeting, I called up the shop to let them know the leather of my steering wheel was damaged by who ever was in my vehicle. They told me to come down so they could see it. I immediately drove down to the shop and the front desk guy came out to look at my damaged wheel. After he checked it out he said that there was no way one of their employee's damaged my steering wheel as they are not allowed to bring tools into vehicles and proceeded to say that my steering wheel appeared "aged" and that I was basically a liar. I literally couldn't believe it. I drive this vehicle every single day, these gashes were not there when I dropped off my car at 8:00 AM. As soon as I drove away, I felt the damage on my steering wheel and knew something was off. I looked up what it costs to replace my steering wheel and it's $2,000. Oh! And later that evening, my husband went to inspect my vehicle and found that they either ripped off my wiper fluid cap or did not replace it. So now I'm driving around with a missing wiper fluid cap. I'd think twice before coming to this business. All I wanted was an oil change. Instead my steering got damaged, which will cost me thousands to replace, and got called a liar. read more

I've used this place 2 times in the last year. I normally do auto stuff in Reno, but time constraints of driving daily. Also, big big storm incoming and need the 4 wheel drive up and ready. Other than expensive to have work done in Truckee, these guys are polite, friendly and consistent. Typical up sale of filters etc. Ironically, if you want an overall diagnosis, they charge $185. If you do and oil change they, it's about $100 and they do a 30 point inspection (fluid, brakes, treads). So it's better to go that route. Overall, pleasant visit and that's why this is my 'in Truckee' oil change place. read more

Had a great experience with this business today. Scheduled in for an oil change expecting only that. Given my vehicle has always been dealer serviced I figured it would just be an 8qt change and out the door. Instead I also received a full vehicle inspection highlighting a few minor things to be aware of. They checked every filter, every fluid, breaks, tires, wipers, belts, body work, the list goes on. Super friendly staff, very comfortable waiting room and all round great experience. I wouldn't think twice about having work performed by these guys in the future. This shop installed brand new Brembo pads and rotors in late July and in November I went in for a standard oil change and they advised me my pads were down to 6 mm over the course of four months which I put 4000 miles on my vehicle. They were unwilling to complete a brake inspection and referred me to the shop next-door, which is owned by the same person for a "second opinion". It has been over a week and I have yet to hear from the owner of the business as requested. At this point, it is definitely a possibility that my brake pads were installed incorrectly by the technician, unfortunately. Please be aware of this business as it has a very high turnover for obvious reasons. If you want an ethical company that stands behind their work then you need to go elsewhere. read more

Love this local place right in town! I swung by with a broken windshield wiper, and with the snow in Truckee it is a necessity to have it working. Allen Amunson, the manager of the Auto Doctor, restored my faith in humanity and honest business. I noticed a leak under my vehicle the other day. I was especially concerned it might be steering fluid and I didn't want to be a danger to myself as well as others on the road. After expressing my thoughts to Allen over the phone, he had me come in and they put my vehicle on the rack. Turns out it was a loose radiator hose attachment. After Allen made the necessary adjustment, I was back on the road within ten minutes. Despite my urging, Allen refused to take any money from me. He's a class act and after reading some of the other reviews, I see this business has done this before. How refreshing, especially in this day and age. Before concluding, I have to give a shout out to their waiting room. It had the greatest vibe and was really comfortable. If I lived in Truckee, or in that area as I see some customers even come from Reno, I would be more than happy to patronize the Auto Doctor Express Lube. read more

Everyone at the Auto Doctor is really great! Always had a really great experience with them. I don't feel like I'm being taken advantage of, they answer all of my questions, and are thorough! I love that they will tow your car to their shop for free if it's within a certain # of miles, too. Also they have I believe a 30k or 3 year warrantee on all of their work! I will say that they are a bit pricey... but it is Truckee afterall and I trust their work. Just make sure you don't use a credit card at their shop (use debit or pay cash) because they have you pay the CC fee of 3% that the credit card companies charge them. With covid-19 around no one wants to be anywhere longer than they really have to. Disappointed. I move often and rely heavily on yelp to find reliable local services. I found auto doctor through yelp, as it has many great reviews! I brought my car in for an oil change (make sure to schedule an appointment, they don't accept walk ins). I was told it would take about 45 minutes. It was a busy Wednesday morning, so unfortunately it took an hour and a half before I was called to the counter to review what was recommended for my car. I appreciate the text with detailed diagnostics and that the gentleman at the front desk reviews that thoroughly with each customer. I was told I needed a new cabin filter and brake fluid, which would take another hour. So I scheduled another appointment as I didn't have time that day. I was told that there was a nest in my cabin air filter. (I don't doubt it- I hadn't driven my car for a month) though I hadn't noticed/it hadn't been an issue until I brought my car in to the auto doctor. In examining the cabin air filter, my blower/fan was damaged. When I turned on my heat or air conditioning I heard a loud thumping sound. After 2 days, the thumping stopped and no air was blowing. When I brought my car back to have the cabin air filter replaced and brake fluid replaced, they were unable to fix the blower/heater. They scheduled me an appointment with their sister company, the auto doctor, for a repair. Each visit to the auto doctor was expensive, lengthy, and inconvenient. Overall, not a good experience for me. I will go elsewhere for my next oil change. read more

"We're just too busy." There was no room for compromise or accommodation for a family who has been trading with this business for 10+ years. "Go to Stones" is what they told us to do. Oh my gosh. What a luck from the car angels and the kindness of strangers and happy accidents. The ford was NOT okay. Jay did not check the issue and pouring fluid was not the problem. Well it was only one of them. Today it is now Tuesday and I plan to leave at 7 am to Sac Thursday with at least a dozen errands to do, getting henry to dot's, and safely down the hill. I called at least 10 mechanics. No one in the area has any space. Earliest queue was Thursday morning. $250 private driver ride to Sac. No ubers in Truckee local just these 'tarts'. No cabs either apparently. the ford did that puttering thing like it was running out of power back in sac a few weeks ago when i brought it to jay and the engine light was on. it went away for a while but the core issue didn't resolve apparently bc the moment i got to truckee i started noticing it couldn't get up the hill. driving up here it didn't have the power it always does. i called jay and he told me to go to auto parts store and have them use the device to diagnose the issue. it wasn't fluid at all. it was three different serious issues with shocks that, in the pyramid of critical issues they are a 2 out of 3. if you don't get them fixed immediately - like within seconds even apparently - they can blow and then the car is rendered useless as it's too expensive to fix. when the girl in the auto shop told me what the diagnosis was and how serious it was, i called back one of the mechanics and explained the entire story about how i have to leave at 7 am thursday and have a big dog and a flight i can't miss and lots of things to carry and there are no ubers here or taxis and the train is 5 hours almost and was about to sell out and rental cars are prohibitively expensive and i can't miss this flight. he said to come in. on the way in it started pouring. i got lost. there was an accident and horrible backed up traffic. the ford was puttering. just like the little ford ka in mexico's sparks blew when i was driving it. it rendered it useless. i drove around all the traffic with my hazards on knowing the ford was about to die. honking lady at me for cutting her off i rolled my window down and yelled out that the ford was about to die and i had no choice. i made it to the auto place. i got to their counter. 3 pm. with the parts diagnosed to buy. get them at the auto shop before you come to save time they'd said. so i showed up with the parts and they said it was going to be a massive job likely over $1,000 at least. i get in line. at the counter is Rich, Rob, Josh, and Daniel. They all know my story by now. They all reinforce to me again they have a long line of people ahead of me and without a formal diagnosis they can't guarantee their work. but if i let them do a diagnosis it wouldn't be done in time. then i started thinking about the money it would cost me to make this trip happen. to make any of it happen. to see simone. any of it right now. and then my eyes started welling up. i was up at 3 am today. i've been working like that lately. then Alan showed up. the boss. he asked me what was so important for me to need them to help me fix the ford by thursday at 7 am. i told them about the flight i can't miss for the event for my company i started 10 years ago and this represents so much of what we've been working towards, and how if i had the issues w getting to sac i probably would w getting henry safely somewhere or getting done what i needed to in order to be able to leave. then he said their entire 'why' was hospitality and taking care of people. he said that high chance it's the shock and he'd just skip the diagnostic to save time and replace the parts i bought and see if that fixed it. he said i could wait. so i sat there working and waiting and researching trains and taxis. then he came with a smile and said sarah. 'we did it!' it was the shock. if i hadn't gotten it there the ford would be toast. they moved mountains to make that happen. then Rich and Alan gave me the warmest hugs. Nicest guys. $185 for the labor. $75 for parts. And I'd been quoted days of work and over $1,000. amazing experience. read more

Definitely not your typical up sell after an oil change, but received pictures of everything they felt needed to be serviced. Daniel at the front desk was more than helpful and encouraging as I was overwhelmed with the news I found out. He made sure I felt okay and how we would fix everything. Starting on what needed the most work, he went thru a specific plan with me on how we wouldn't break my wallet all at once, but ensure me that my family and I would feel safe in our truck. Never once at a shop have I felt like the workers truly cared about me, but how they would make the most money. Really appreciate Jessie and his awesome crew at Auto Doctor Express Lube. Was out in NorthStar Tahoe spending a weekend with my family. When we're about to drive back home, our car started alarming with low oil pressure message on the dashboard. The manager at a local gas station told me to call Auto Doctor Express Lube, which I did. Jessie received my call and told me that they are unfortunately really busy that day and cannot perform oil change on my car. However, he told me that I could come over and they can top-off the oil in my car. When we got to the shop, they immediately attended to my car and we were back on the road in less that 30 minutes. I went here for an oil change based on the great reviews (I was passing through town and went online to research a place a could stop on my way through). I drove in and was immediately yelled at for parking in the wrong space. I moved. I then went in and they didn't seem all that busy, but I was told that they couldn't accommodate me and the man couldn't have been ruder. I planned my afternoon around this. Don't advertise as a walk in place if you are not one, and don't laugh me out the door saying, we'll, we're the only game in town (e.g., I can afford to be rude and turn people away). Getting an oil change shouldn't be this difficult. If you need people to make appointments you should specify this - I would have been happy to call ahead.
