Jerry is amazing and honest. I had to have 2 batteries changed in my van on the day we were leaving Truckee. I was traveling with my 2 kids and 2 dogs back to San Diego. What I imagined to be a stressful, time consuming and expensive day turned out to be ok. Joe at O'Reily's on Deerfield recommended Jerry for my battery installation. I don't know a lot about cars but I always thought that battery replacements were simple. I remember the days and cars, where you can just buy a battery at O'Reily's and they could replace it for you on the spot. Well, I learned a lot about cars today. Our Chrysler Pacifica 2018, has 2 batteries and a part over the main battery making it a bit more challenging to replace. I'm not from Truckee so I had no idea where and who was reliable in the area. I am so glad I referred to Jerry! He called me with some surprising news which could've been terrible, but he is experienced and honest and called with a solution. It turned out I need to replace an additional battery. As he was telling me, my mind immediately went to $$$, preparing to call O'Reily's to see if they had the battery, the logistics to go pick up a battery and get it to the shop, wondering if it could all be done before the shopped closed...Well, I didn't have to worry. Jerry had solutions prepared. He had already called O'Reily's to see if they had the additional battery, had the price, and an arrangement to have the battery delivered to his shop. All I needed to do was call Joe at O'Reily's to purchase the battery over the phone. When you are trying to pack, take zoom meetings for work, manage 2 kids, 2 lively pets and your husband is hundreds of miles away with terrible cell phone service and really lack any car repair knowledge, you just want to throw your hands in the air and just hope no one takes advantage of you. I am so grateful to know there are kind, helpful, patient and honest people in this world. My car was jump started at 10:00 am and by 2:00 pm, my car was ready. I got my family packed, made my meetings, walked the dogs, had lunch and made it for ice cream and left Truckee safely with my family. Thank you! P.S. Jerry is a very honest mechanic. I own a '00 Frontier and decided I wanted chunkier tired, so I took it to Big O to get an alignment and the tires but they couldn't do the alignment because "my entire control arm assembly needed to be replaced along with ball joints." Would've cost me 1300 bucks. Recently my brakes went out, so we took it to him and told him about the ball joints as well as the brakes and whatnot. Called me up and told me the control arms were fine and it'd be half of what big o charges, even with the brake repairs. Most honest mechanic I've met, and tells you exactly what needs replacing and what doesn't. Highly recommend. read more

My car needed new brake pads and routers for the front two wheels. It was a Toyota 4Runner 2000. I called in and asked for a quote estimate, and they told me about $300-$350. I told them I would let them know if I could drop it off and have it done next day, and they said that could be done. They called me back and told me that parts were not available until the next day or two, and that he already placed the order for them. I was in town and needed it done quickly, as that was why I asked about next day. My wife made it work and stayed longer to get the car completed, and I told them to call her for payment and pickup when completed. My wife then went in to pay and they charged her $525! Not sure if it was a coincidence that a women went in and payed and I was no longer in town etc. but it sure felt like it! Also, they told her that the routers they had to Order we special and cost more, which they never told me over the phone. Seems shady and I felt we were taken advantage of. I called them back to ask for a partial discount, as they should have let us know the estimate was going up by $200 before moving forward. They told me that they would give us a free oil and filter change instead. Not a happy customer and never going back. We just moved into town and will be going elsewhere. read more

Did repairs w out authorization/signed worked order! I diagnosed this issue w google. It was pretty strait forward. It was a problem w the transfer case. When we took it in, they couldn't recreate the issue somehow. $180 to diagnose and replace transfer case fluid, did not solve the issue.. a loud clunking, often, when in 4w. Pretty hard to miss. I took it back, showed them the sound, two weeks later they finally call back saying they'd replaced drive shaft and its still not fixed but it'll be $600 in repairs that solved nothing and we did not authorize. When I called them on the unauthorized repairs, he said oops we made a mistake doing that. No sh*t. No apology no nothin. I asked him to take $150 off for misdiagnosing, he reluctantly agreed. I thanked him profusely, but why? For handing me some vasaline to make it hurt less? I was four dollars short when I went into pay, but they couldn't excuse that. I wish I'd have forced him to put the old part back or at least split the cost. FYI if I shop does repairs w out permission (a signed work order, you can ask to see) you can make them put it back for free (per BAR) But after no car for two weeks and Thanksgiving we didn't want to risk them having it for another two weeks and any retaliation. So we paid it obviously. Almost $800 and it's still broke. If I'd have known ahead of time I'd have dumped that 800 into something newer. Pretty sure they do this to the loaded Truckee second homers so be aware. Sh*t happens but this just bad pr. You guys know you can't do unauthorized repairs and you know it's your financial responsibility if you do to put it back. The quote to replace transfer case, $3000! The part from the dealer is $1200. The part takes 4 hours tops to remove and install. Even at 150/ hr that's $1800. Where does the other 1200 come from!! Shocked read more

Monica is great I have no complaints about her! I used to be a customer here until recently when I took my car in for an oil change and I had a $100 bill in my wallet. I picked up my vehicle and the bill was gone! I never carry cash so I always know when I have it! I never even received an apology or anything from the owner. Needless to say, I will not be back. posted this before - but it has disappeared: If you have something go wrong with your car, go somewhere else. Bottom line, it would've been much cheaper and quicker to get it towed to Reno. My car broke down driving over the Sierra's and this shop was the closest one and said I could get it towed in. It was Friday and they said they could look at it on Monday. By Wednesday they figured out they needed to remove the transmission to figure out exactly what happened. After 2 weeks they finally determine the cause (broken flex plate). Jerry, the owner, promises to call back with great regularity. It never happens. He promises progress that day or the next. It never happens. He's quick to apologize, and promises results when I say I need to get this car fixed because rentals aren't cheap and I need a car to get to work. But nothing changes, and I have to call every few days just to hear more promises. It eventually takes one day short of 4 weeks to get a new flex plate in and back together. Jerry calls, tells me it is all done and gives me the total. I go in the next day to pick it up and he tries to add over $50 to the total. We compromise on the price and when we go to the car he shows me that the latch to the tailgate is now broken and they had to use a rope to tie it shut. Never had a problem with it before, but suddenly it's broken. Odd he didn't mention that before I paid. He said they lubed the latch and tried working it, but couldn't get it to work. I get the car on the road and as soon as I get it on the highway it is shaking like it's about to fall apart. I limp it back to the shop via side streets after getting off the highway. Several hours later and they figure out they didn't quite put it back together right. Thankfully I took another day off work and got there early, because you can be sure if it was after 5 o'clock I'd be stuck without a car for the weekend, despite promises it was done. I spent 3 hours replacing the latch on the tailgate and have offered to split the cost of the part with them since it was old and not pay for my time, since I'm sure it would only take a mechanic an hour or so. Every time I talk to him he says he has to "think about it" and says he will call back by noon the next day. Each time he's had at least a week to respond, but he doesn't. Now he seems to be ducking my calls and I think I'll have to go through the Bureau of Automotive Repair to try to get some money back. Maybe if you're local he'll try to do well and make sure you're all fixed up in a timely manner. If not, just pay the extra tow charge. There are some pretty good shops in Reno read more

I recently just bought a new car down in Reno and needed to get it smogged the day I bought it. I ended up spending more time at the dealership than I thought and was beginning to worry I wouldn't make it up to Truckee in time. All the shops up there closed at 5, and said I needed to get there by 4. I called Truckee Automotive, and Monica reassured me the would stay a little later if I was headed up pretty soon. I was on the road by 3:45 and made it up to there at 4:30 and was out their door at 4:45. Very professional shop, and staff. I wish I could give a better review but I'm very upset with Truckee automotive. I spend 640$ for a wheel baring replacement and a few other small things. All of which went fine. Then I pick up my car to see a cracked windshield that was not there when we dropped off the vehicle. They don't care and said they don't know what to tell us. So I get something fixed on my car and they damage it and do nothing about it. Very very disappointed. I will not be taking my car back there. The price alone was a lot to begin with and now I have to pay to fix something that they damaged not cool not cool at all. Terrible terrible service. Very frustrating read more

Best service and pricing I've seen in the Truckee area. They've serviced my car several times and have always been reasonable with the cost of repairs.
