I am sad that so many doctors here have delivered less than great expirences. I saw Dr. Billys, who I did not see mentioned in any other review, for a workmans comp referral. (I have had a hell of a time with these referrals too) I really enjoyed meeting with Dr. Billys, his assistant was so pleasant and attentive. I did not have to wait long to be seen and when the doctor came in he listened, went over everything (MRI, Radiographs and previous reports) with me so that I knew exactly what I was facing. He did not do any un-necessary procedures (I was referred to get an epidural in my neck) and let me know exactly why it wouldn't help and what I needed to do next. If you do have to go here...get Dr. Billys! I do not think you will be disappointed. read more

The surgeon Dr Devin k datta is just ok, the worst follow up in history on a 7 disc Fusion, this company is only concerned with money. They received almost $99,000 from my insurance company, and because I had a $2,000 balance they actually threw me out of the doctor's appointment because I owe $2,000 I have residual problems which I can never go back there again because I do not trust them. My recommendation find another place to do your back surgery read more

I had three surgeries at the center. One on my neck and two on my lumbar area. My neck came out fairly well, but the lumbar surgeries are a whole different story. I have more discomfort now than I did prior to the surgeries. I should have given it a lot more thought before I went under the knife. The surgeries were a year and half ago and no therapy was recommended. Unfortunately, I am in therapy now. I have nerve damage in my leg from the surgeries and my back muscles are a mess. After the lumbar surgeries I had either 6 or 7 nerve blocks and none of them worked. The office is complete chaos. When you get through to someone, they seldom return your calls. My surgeon was Dr. Hynes. I wrote him a personal letter hoping I would get a personal response but that never came. The person that called was the patient advocate whom I talked to on many occasions. Not a lot of help. My suggestion would be to go to the Mayo clinic or the Cleveland clinic. Needless to say, never again. read more

This has to be the worst center I have ever seen. I would rather receive care in a New Delhi slum. 2 1/2 hours to see Dr Hynes. Waited two weeks for staff to schedule surgery. No call backs, carrier called daily with no luck. Staff is rude, incompetent and untrained. Staff actually lied to my insurance. List of their excuses. Dr was overbooked (everyday). New computer system. Fax machine not working. Stay away from this trash hole. read more

Was referred to The Back Center as Dr. Datta was "the best". Along with the long waits and falling through cracks with scheduling follow up appointments (this happened 3 times!), I was scheduled to see two other doctors, one for a nerve conduction study the other for injections. The doctor who was supposed to do the injections said I wasn't referred to him but he'd try to help. He told me he wouldn't risk paralyzing me (I have several congenital deformations throughout my upper spine) but he could help with pain in my lower back (scoliosis, herniated disk, and arthritis), which I was grateful for since Dr. Datta was only interested in my upper spine. Anyway, had low spine injection, which unfortunately didn't work. Had appointment that was scheduled for the nerve conduction study was told the results were difficult and he wanted to consult Dr. Datta. Had a neurologist call to schedule an appointment with me for a nerve conduction study. I thought it was due to the strange results from the first, but no, it was "who I was supposed to see from the beginning". He was very nice, but was unaware of any of the other appointments I had been referred to. He told me not to have surgery and if I needed to talk I could call him. Had second set of shots in low back with the Doctor I wasn't referred to but who wanted to help me as best as he could, again didn't work so am forced to the default of pain pills. Mind you my first appointment was in January. As of end of June still no follow up with Dr. Datta. My primary care doctor calls him to ask what's up and within a couple days I'm called for a follow up. At this appointment he acts like he's never seen me before in his life. My face may be forgettable, but my back is memorable in the rarity of one of my deformities. He wants surgery, I tell him what the neurologist he referred me to said so we settle on trying injections. Again, I fell through the cracks. Only got scheduled for that appointment when I had a follow up for unwanted pain meds. Needless to say I have ZERO confidence in Dr. Datta. I know this was wordy, but felt the need to give proportion to the low review. Everything at the Back Center feels like an assembly line, with exception to a few kind staff members that seem to actually care. read more

I wish that I could take the time to write to the world how horrific my 21 year old daughters experience was, and still is, with The Back Center. Here is a quick synopsis, Former doctor Ortiz a doctor at the back center who performed two botched lapendectomy's on my young daughters L3-L4, has committed suicide and is no longer in the picture. Dr Data performed a spinal fusion on her 3 agonizing days later, due to the fact that Dr. Ortiz left the country for a vacation leaving her unattended. After bitching for three days Dr. Data saw her and seeing her paralyzed and in agony decided to fuse L3&4. We took my daughter to another neurosurgeon in the area who said that he hadn't seen anything so horrific in his life and recommenced we sue. We tried and failed, these Dr's have a powerful crew of attorneys on retainer for just this so they don't have to help. Dr. Data after finding out we were suing dropped my daughter from care with no further association, like she was just swept out the door. She is going to school now and can barely make two days of walking before she is almost crippled. This is a fathers worst nightmare to see his very athletic daughter so weak and feeble all because we used the back center. The other posts are spot on, this place is a sham and should be shut down for malpractice. Please heed this warning, do not use the back center for anything, they are uncaring, detached and dishonest. My daughter was permanently damaged by these people and will never be the same. If I could give them 0 stars I would! After my MRI, I kept trying to contact them to get my results/schedule an apt. They kept transferring me to my doctors assistance voicemail. I left a couple voicemails and never heard back, so I called them again (this had been going on for over 2 weeks since I went for my MRI). I told the lady Ashley on the phone that I had left messages and didn't hear back. She then proceeded to tell me that "We have too many patients and not enough doctors, that calling everyone back would be ridiculous!" Are you kidding me?!? What kind of place is this?!? Who says that to a patient!?! Once I finally got an apt scheduled I was told that nothing showed up on the MRI for my back, even though I was in a lot of pain, so they recommended injections. They found a couple herniated discs in my neck, but the doctor argued the fact that the radiologist notated 2 because she could only see 1 on the scan. She then told me I needed injections for that. Not once was I offered other solutions or even medicine to deal with the pain until insurance approved my injections. I have yet to hear from anyone again about my issues. I will be going for a second opinion at another location because how can I trust a place that tells me "....calling everyone back would be ridiculous!" and also having the doctor argue what the radiologist found! The surgeon I am seeing is very difficult to contact. I have had multiple back fusions (C6-7) & L2-4. I was given shots in my sacroilliac joints and told that surgery was necessary. I was not told that the surgery was experimental. First I was told that my surgery date (next Tuesday) was not possible because the doctor had no other surgeries scheduled that date. So I would have to move surgery up to Monday and by the way, I needed a pre-op with surgeon who ordered the surgery 45 days previously. I live in Georgia so the effort necessary to drive down on 1 days notice to Melbourne was difficult. If I did not see the doctor before the day of surgery, the procedure would be cancelled. I have never seen a clinic where pre-ops could not be done in the hospital on the day of surgery. By the way, this was after I had completed a comprehensive pre-op (EKG, full panel of blood work) at my primary care doctors office. I was called 2 business days prior to surgery and told my insurance would not approve due to the procedure being "experimental"! That was not the case. I have two (2) insurance plans and they were fighting about who should be primary. I am told by scheduling nurse that submitting the second (primary) insurance was fraud because it is (illegal) to have two (2) insurance policies!?!? I called her on this statement so she contacted my other insurance and the procedure was approved. My wife and I both work so we both have health insurance. We have 3 kids in college and a 5 month old grand baby! Insurance is important. Having surgery tomorrw. Waiting on my pre-op (2nd one this week) with the doctor. 60 days ago I was here after driving from Georgia. Doctor stated his scheduling nurse would call me on Monday to schedule surgery. It was 4 weeks later after numerous messages left. I asked to have both sides of my back fused so that I did not have to travel back for the other side. No answer. I left 15 messages. Also my pain doctor wanted my surgeon to insert a Medtronics stimulator. I have the morphine pump, but pain specialist thinks stimulator might help and better to have my surgeon do it because of the massive scar tissue and nerve problems I have. I love my surgeon. I think he is talented. I question the practice and their inability to handle scheduling and explain procedures. Good luck! My last doctor disappeared in the middle of the night because his ex-wife was continuously sending forensic accountants to go over his income. Either fly to Tennessee to see him or drive from Georgia to see the Back Center. P.S. I have had 28 major surgeries. I still work every day, go to college at night, and try to maintain a positive approach. The lack of compassion doctors seem to have is astounding. If I say anything, I am no longer treated. I have lost 2 pain specialists due to not "being cordial." I am a person in pain constantly.....I am grouchy and sore......do they not advise doctors in medical school that patients are often in pain and not making jokes? Good luck! STAY AWAY. From doctor to staff, this is the worst doctor's office I've ever visited (the only exceptions being a couple of nurse assistants, who were very kind). I've never waited less than an hour and a half after my appointment time to be seen, and frequently waited more. I've had one of their doctors tell me that a scheduler would contact me to set up an MRI, and then nobody contacted me. After repeatedly calling, I finally got a person - who didn't tell me that the office they were sending me to was 3 miles down the road and not in the main building. Repeated messages go unreturned, or are only returned days after my call. But the worst - the absolute worst - is their newest doctor on staff (who I won't mention by name) who is unbelievably rude, sexist and condescending. He ordered me to sit down when we first met (I stand up due to back pain), and when I told him I'd prefer to remain standing, he turned his back on me and wouldn't look me in the eye for the rest of the appointment. He suggested I have a procedure done; when I asked him about possible side effects, he told me to Google it. When I pressed him and asked for reasons why I might not have the procedure done, he told me "I don't know -- you're an idiot? Or maybe you're just one of those stupid women who don't listen to their doctors." Hand to heart, this is what he said. I was STUNNED. Then he made vague allusions to female patients falling in love with him in the past and that he hoped I wasn't a stalker (I have NO idea where that came from). It was beyond bizarre and creepy. I decided to go ahead with the procedure and scheduled it for the day before Christmas break; just minutes before I was supposed to show up, I got panicky calls telling me he was running 3 hours behind and wouldn't be able to do the procedure after all. I called them back - got voicemail, as I always do - and begged to have it done before the break, because it would otherwise be nearly a month before I would be able to have it done. No response. Nearly a week went by before I got a call back from his scheduler. No apologies at all. THAT was the last straw. I went here because I was told they were the best; if that's so, I'd hate to see the worst, but I'd rather see ANYONE else than visit this practice again. read more

I had multiple appointments rescheduled for the Dr being unavailable, tried to make appointments for a procedure and it took weeks for them to get back to me. Pain management never called in my prescription. They need someone that knows how to run a office and practice read more

I guess everyone who needs to be seen here is in some degree of pain. I definitely was and am all the time so it's no wonder they are going to get some negative reviews because when your in pain you don't have patients for waiting. I have been to other pain management clinics and this one is by far the best! I know when you make an appointment you are going to have to wait no matter what Dr or pain clinic you go too. I always arrive 30 min before my apt and by the time of the appointment I get right in. I am scheduled for surgery with Dr. Billy,s next month and when I initially met him I was so relieved how he took time with me to go over my condition and explain everything and said he would put me at the top of the list to have the surgery right away. I see Dr. Sassano to manage my pain once per month and if I don't have any changes or questions I get right out. I like that. They have went to bat for me with the insurance company to receive medical equipment and are always helpful. I know this sounds kind of Polllyanna but I all boils down to your attitude when you arrive. No one is perfect we all have bad days every now and then. Just be patient and remember your diagnosis is your responsibility not theres soask questions, they don't read minds. Good luck read more

HORRIBLE! HORRIBLE! HORRIBLE! I've had the same pain management doctor for 13 years and I adored him. He treated me with respect and his staff actually cared about the patient. This place NOT SO MUCH! If you are on pain management then you know that your medicine is given to you for a specific amount of time. There is no extra or wiggle room for mistakes. I made an appointment 60 days in advance so that it would be at the time I am out of meds and need to have a refill. The day BEFORE my scheduled appointment they called to reschedule for another month from that date. I explained to the lady who called that I have no meds left and cannot wait another month. She said "sorry". I asked if she even cared and she actually just hung up on me. I wrote a letter to the office manager but never heard anything so needless to say I was out of luck. I really miss Dr. Stern's office. They always treated the patient not the condition and showed empathy and compassion for people like myself who cannot function without pain relief. read more
