I made a reservation for "The Works" the day off the appointment with Sara without any issues. "The Works" included a haircut, a hot lather neck shave, a wash, and a massage. When I walked in, I was immediately greeted by the barbers, and attended to quickly. It's incredibly clean there too. I've always had trouble getting the haircut I wanted, but Sara nailed it. She taught me afterward how to style my hair with product so that I could do it at home. I have never left a haircut as satisfied as here. On the way out, they even offered me lollipops and popcorn. There were so many things wrong with this appointment. First of all, I confirmed a reservation for a men's cut with Abir, who charges + $3 extra on top for being a master barber "intent on providing you with the absolute best barbershop experience around" according to their website. I arrive on time, and the receptionist cannot find my reservation in the system. She tells me she thinks I booked it at another location. I had to show her my text confirmation for her to get me in. Abir already has a customer in her seat and asks me to wait. When she sits me, I explain my haircut to her, then she rushes through cutting my hair. She's going so fast her comb is catching my earlobe, and it hurts like hell. She sees my face in pain and doesn't even apologize. Then her next customer comes in the door, and she stops cutting my hair to greet him. Then she proceeds to cut my hair even faster, forgetting to give me a hard part. The lines around my ears are crooked and do not match. At the end, she cleans up the hair on the back of my neck and vigorously vacuums my head, neck, face, and shirt. Folks, she is not worth the extra $3, and you will not get the absolute best experience with Abir. Never again for me. read more

Went in to get my son a haircut. Asked for a faux hawk. She faded the whole back and didn't leave anything long enough to style. The lady was nice but did not seem very experienced and took almost 45 minutes to do his hair. Not worth the time or money. read more

Well, to start, if you want the most basic super simple haircut this is the cheap place to go. If you want anything specific DO NOT GO HERE! On top of that if you're a male with curly hair DO NOT GO HERE, I was told they had a barber with 11 years experience and even she could not cut curly hair properly. I called ahead just to confirm that they had a barber with experience cutting curly hair, she supposedly did and the finish product showed she did not. I was grateful to have a free fix for my hair but that included just buzzing it down to my scalp so I can regrow my hair again. Price points = good. They used to be great for what you got but all their prices went up by $2 which is a lot on a $15 haircut. But still less than kids salons or cuts elsewhere. We come here regularly and see Chu, as she is a magician with my 3 year old son. He has had 4 haircuts here and the last 2 with her because he doesn't cry or fuss at all with her. She has the magic touch I guess!! She is extremely patient with him wiggling about and having to ask multiple times to hold his head in a specific position. BEWARE!! Employees need to sanitize their equipment correctly. I got a bacterial infection around my neck after getting a hair cut here. As a barber, if you have a customer who has clear signs of a skin infection please don't cut their hair and risk passing it on to your next customer. I want to be lazy and point to Daniel C.'s review and just go "ditto." He pretty much covered most of everything I would have. My tip is to phone ahead. They don't take reservations, but you can be put "on the list" up to 30 minutes in advance to help shorten your wait time. The people here have always been great and friendly. When there's a wait, they'll offer a free soda and popcorn to help pass the time. Normally I would give a place like this 4 stars because there's really nothing all that special or premium about it, but the fact that they've been consistently great for years certainly counts for something. It's not bad. I always walk out with a good haircut that I'm happy with. The problem is the lack of organization. When you walk in you put your name on a clipboard and they'll call your name when they are ready for you. Names get skipped by accident and called out of order, leading to waits of up to two hours. This place needs to ditch the clipboard and use a computer to stop confusion. Otherwise, you'll want to call in beforehand to make sure you don't need to wait too long. read more

If you want a specific haircut as far as a simple cut. I didn't ask for designs I didn't ask for anything to crazy I asked for, guess what? A fade cut and for it to be bald around the sides and back. This lady Angie could not even do that right. Butchered my head. Pushed my hairline back. Didn't even try to give me a tape up. I even called ahead and asked! I'm telling you they are not very professional. Maybe to someone who is retiring and there eye sight is bad or to someone who doesn't care about their looks but I could've cut my own hair better than this. Which I have. This being my first haircut after my move to the Portland area I am pleased. Coming from a barber in San Diego that cut my hair for 10 years I was a little nervous to be in the hands of a stranger. Melissa was the barber that helped me and I can say that I was very pleased with how she cut my hair. She payed attention to what I wanted in my cut and was thorough and quick. Ive been getting my haircut at this place for years and I love it. They always do a really good job and durring non covid times they hand out soda and popcorn and the hairstylists are always very friendly. The only complaint i have about my most recent visit is how hot it was. It was like 110 degrees today and im pretty sure the air-conditioning was either not working or off for some reason? I was sweating profusely durring the cutt. Im very happy with my haircut though and i will definitely come back. I look like a supermodel when i come out of this place. Called in the day before to see if I could come in and get a shave for my wedding day. Lady on the phone said it would be fine they would just use a machine not a straight razor then hung up. Incredibly disappointing experience. I've been a customer at this location several times and had good experiences with Alan. I thought he was very detailed so I called to request a same day appointment with him on 8/29/21 at 4pm. I show up and am told he's running 15 minutes behind. Not a great start but it's fine and I agree to wait. It's now 430pm and they close at 5pm. Alan is nowhere to be found! The other barbers say, "maybe he's in the bathroom. Sorry." And resume with their own customers. So I'm sitting in their empty waiting room, having seen 3-4 other customers get their cut, and my requested barber nowhere to be found. I would have hoped Alan would have at least said he'll be right with me but I felt so confused about the whole situation. My first compliment has to be consistency. No matter who cuts your hair it is a very similar process. I have been coming here since it opened, over 4 years though don't remember exactly. I have a lot of hair on my head and it grows really fast. I need it cut often and short, but not a buzz cut. So basically I go in here every 3 weeks. Always get the works, because nothing feels better than the straight razor neck shave. I need the shampoo to wash the hair off me, otherwise it drives me nuts all day long. People without much hair will not know what I am talking about. It is obviously a place for guys, and they have sports on the TV's all the time, which is nice. Nice casual unpretentious atmosphere. Allan cut my hair and didn't even cut it properly. Same guy cut my brother's hair and messed up. I asked him to to cut my sides a little shorter and he said he couldn't because he used scissors. My sides were not cut evenly. I'd rather spend the extra money and go elsewhere where people actually know how to cut hair. read more

My experience at The Barber has always been excellent. That is because Mary does a Fantastic job! She makes me feel comfortable and takes time to make sure your haircut is to the standards you want and expect. She doesnt rush you like so many other places do. She pays attention to detail. When he left they just stared until i said hi. They asked if we've been here before and i said no. The woman then pushed a clip board over to J and said sign in. He got all checked and went straight to the chair. The barber was quiet and got it done as quick as possible. It was such a shame. Ok - first off, I'm a long time customer of The Barbers. Have been to many of their locations over the years. Today, I took my son in and we both got bad haircuts. I have been noticing a trend even before the Covid-19 closures. First , they all seem increasingly understaffed which results in not being able to take walk-ins anymore. I call ahead and make appointments when possible and did so today. But what I see is that the barbers are rushed or lacking attention to detail. I have had a huge number of people at the Barbers cut my hair with only a few times where I thought it was a great haircut. I have been really, really patient and understanding but today was the absolute last straw. Prices have increased to nearly $30 for "the works" and they don't even offer it up as shampooing, neck shave and neck massage take TIME, something the stylist doesn't seem to have. I can't remember the last time I paid for the "works" and actually got a neck massage. The business model has placed quantity over quality. I'm done with The Barbers, $30 for a haircut that is on par with Great Clips has done it for me. You have lost and are losing customers because you lost your vision of what the experience needs to be. read more

Ok, this isn't your super cool, trendy Portland area barber shop, but it has a few things I like. It's fast, it's convenient, it has value. I just couldn't take going to my usual walk-in barber anymore due to the limited availability and long wait times, so I sought an alternative, and this is what I found. It's a barber chain that caters to the average male consumer looking for a quick, inexpensive chop. They have TV's at every station that usually have a sporting event on or whatever you ask them to change the channel to. They have beverages you can order, and an assortment of other condiments as well. I found the service to be fast and friendly here. I never wait for more than 2 or 3 minutes before I'm in a seat. The female barbers usually strike up some sort of light, random conversation which is friendly and professional. I never feel like I'm getting haggled or being up-sold on products or services. Although, I'm a pretty easy customer. I usually just get a trim and a hot lather neck shave. Sometimes a beard trim. One thing they can't do here is give you a straight razor beard trim or front-neck trim. Something about insurance or some corporate obstacle they won't jump through. They do, however, offer a neck massage, but no happy ending with that. This isn't rural Thailand, just Tigard! $17 only goes so far here ;) Worth checking out if time and convenience are your thing. read more
