They are so nice and helpful here! The selection is incredible. They even have a really well done separate gift shop with cute items. My mom and I were so happy to find this place and will be back for sure! Definitely worth the short drive from downtown Oly.

Didn't have any house plants. I was the only customer there and the 2 employees acted like I was bothering them. Not the friendliest people

I've always liked this place. I think the no-nonsense name of the place is pretty on brand with…read morethe whole experience. It's very no frills, all outdoors, all about the plants, all super fair prices. If you want five sales people to be all in your face, or a sales person to "check on you" as if you are a child, this is not the place for you. It's like a plant lover introvert's heaven. You can just walk through outdoor greenhouse after greenhouse, and you are surrounded by all the plants. There is just SO much. There's maybe 20-40 of every plant, all on one grouping, so you can really peruse and get a good sense of the vibe of a given type of plant, if you are woo-woo like that, which I am. :-) There are signs to give you the essential facts of each plant, plus of course you can hop on the internet w/your cell phone and research more as you wish. There are sales people but they are few and far between which is just the way I want it. If I want help I can find someone, but mostly I want to peruse and make up my own mind. Once you know what you want you put it onto a dolly and bring it to the main building by the parking and entrance & you pay. Easy peasy. I'm sure if what you're getting was too big for you to get onto a dolly yourself they'd help. They have lots of trees and bigger things too. I heard ever since the pandemic this giant location has been open to both wholesale and retail customers, so you can disregard that ancient review saying this location was only wholesale. Now this giant location is their only location. (The photos from a yelper from 2019 are of the smaller location they no longer have.) The prices shown are wholesale but you just add 35% or whatever in your mind. The prices even with the retail markup are way cheaper than I've found in any other area nursery, which is probably he biggest reason I keep coming back. Also you can look up plant availability online on their website. Their list is not perfectly accurate or guaranteed, like they could have fewer of a plant than the list says, but it's a definite plus since I like to sit at home and research different plant varieties and plan. I don't know of any other area nursery that offers an online plant inventory list.

How is it that I didn't know of this amazing nursery in Tumwater?! They not only had multiple of the specific plant my friend had been searching for, they have a massive selection! So many greenhouses...so many plants, trees, and bushes! We were helped by Erica who impressively knew where to find every plant in that massive place and had extensive knowledge. And now I have a new favorite nursery to introduce my friends to. Thank you Erica for your help! We both spent more than we had planned and we had a blast doing so!

This year, we finally found Bennie's! She allowed us to make custom pre-orders in January when she was still selecting flowers. She showed us her Proven Winners catalog and had great suggestions for what would grow well together. Today we picked up our baskets and they look fabulous. I can't wait to see what they look like in August! The only disappointment was that with 11 hanging baskets in the Suburban, I only had room to take home 1 more plant. So back to Bennie's we'll go to bring home some beautiful geraniums, lavender, clematis, roses, or dozens of other annuals and perennials. Everything looked extremely healthy and vigorous. Customers are spoiled for choice, and prices are extremely reasonable. Well worth the 3 hour round trip!

Then 2 years went by and we wanted more flowering cherry trees and for some reason we bought them elsewhere. Out of the 4 we bought elsewhere only 1 survived. We recently bought 3 more from Bennie's. They were supposed to trim a laurel hedge, but decided to only trim it as far up as they could reach without bothering to do the upper couple of feet. It is a horrible mess. They were supposed to re-gravel the driveway, but, brought such a fine-grade gravel that it was more dust than stones. I spoke about that and Sam Hill, the owner, said "It'll be fine once it rains." NO it's not. Most of the "gravel" blew away. It's a lumpy mess. I had also specified that I wanted the gravel to go all the way out to the edges of the current drive. I even said "I want it wide." Wasn't done. I complained and Sam said, "It looks like a nice, strip up the middle." He said if I wanted it out to the edges, he could write up another bid!!!! I had gone out the day before and weeded and made the edges of the drive very clear. These lazy people didn't even bother to move a trash can that was at the side: they just left it un-graveled. They didn't spread gravel over the entire area that is the turn-around either. You can see where they just put their gravel around in patches when they thought they could get away with leaving the old gravel. They cut a 50-year old lilac down to the ground for no reason at all. Apparently, Sam's parents own a nursery, so he "made it right" by putting 2 inch tall cuttings in its place. I objected because lilacs are very slow growing. Sam said "Oh, no...they grow really fast." NOT TRUE. I then went to a nursery and picked out a 4 foot tall lilac that would still not make up for the towering one that had been destroyed, but would be better than cuttings. Sam said he'd go get it. Well, he must have gone back to mom and dad again. They planted a one foot tall weakling that is now dead. I wanted them to plant something to mask my neighbors fence from view. I said something flowering, like a dogwood or cherry. I expected someone who calls himself a landscaper to know plants; to know what would grow in the space indicated. I babied that tree for months, but...it's now dead, too. So, thousands of dollars went for damage and ignorance and laziness and refusal to repair what they ruined. DO NOT USE THESE PEOPLE.
