I had an amazing time at the Barns for a wedding! Beautiful venue, obviously, but definitely want to give a shoutout to the staff. From greeting us outside the venue to the staff bringing us our food, they were exceptional. My plate was taken away prematurely when I went to get a drink but honestly didn't mind, as I had too much during the cocktail hour lol. read more

Weird... I've lived in CT since Ronald Reagan was president, but I've never heard of the Barns at Wesleyan Hills until I received a wedding invitation a few weeks ago. What a beautiful place it was and what a terrific experience we had! It was an outdoor wedding on a very hot evening, and as we walked up the path from the parking lot, we were greeted by a personable young lady who offered us a chilled cup of water. Well actually she offered three kinds of water- cucumber, pineapple-strawberry, and "plain" water. That kind of set for the tone for the evening's stellar customer and food services. The wedding ceremony was held in a grass meadow overlooking a lake. The sound system was excellent and everything went very well. As we walked up the hill into the "Little Barn" we were again greeted by smiling and charming Barn employees who acted as guides to prompt us where to go. The cocktail hour was held in a large open room with a big bar, just off the dining room. Lots of passed hors d'oeuvres and a very large table with meats, cheeses, crackers, spreads, and crudities. The dining room for the reception was very pretty, and very barn-like, with lots of wood beams, wood plank walls and flooring, and strung lights. The service was absolutely great. Our servers and room captains warmly introduced themselves by name. They had already made note of the guests' pre-selected meal choices, and cross checked them with the table seating assignments, so they kind of knew who ordered what. Super efficiency in motion. We started off with an excellent asparagus soup and a nice salad with goat cheese and diced beets. The four meal choices all looked great. I went halfsies on the vegetable lasagna and the chicken dish, and I liked the lasagna a lot better. All in all I really loved our introduction to the Barns. The only minor quibble I had was that the wide wood planks on the dance floor were a little uneven, so be careful if you've had a few pops before you show off your moves on the dance floor. read more

I went here for a wedding and thought it was a beautiful venue! For those who like country-side/ barn-style, this is the place! The rolling lush hills are lovely and relaxing. The bistro lights on the inside and dance floor and halls make for great and lively conversations and dancing. The staff is very nice and accommodating and professional. Although a beautiful venue, beware of deposits and potential for having to cancel. This company has no ethics, morals or remorse for people but simply making a hefty profit off of you. My daughter had to cancel her wedding due to unforeseen circumstances after putting down $15,000. She canceled 13 months in advance and they refused to give back any portion of the money or let us find another couple to take that date. There was no monetary loss on their end with very minimal work put into the wedding planning since it was 13 months out. They had two 45 min zoom calls to go over timelines and that was it! They even had the audacity to lie and say my daughter's wedding was going to cost $45,000 so the $15,000 was fair compensation for the work they did. My daughter's original date she wanted to get married was September 2025 but it would cost $44,000. We were going to walk away because we couldn't spend that amount but they worked with us saying if we changed the date to the off season then it would be lowered to $22,000, half the cost! They then averaged $8,000 for add ons which brought it to a max of $30,000 so we agreed to move forward. In no capacity were we going over that budget so their $45,000 estimate was a lie and was their was of keeping our hefty deposit. Although it's a business, there are beautiful venues out that have morals and genuinely care for their couples and doing the right thing, not price gouging and keeping money when they are definitely going to fill that date at 13 months out. Also, be aware of hidden costs they don't tell you about in the beginning like the crazy amount of money they charge for just using the bridal suite per hour above the very little time they give you or the up charge to change a low cost rib entree to the normal prime rib plate that the majority of venues have as a base entree. read more

Absolutely breathtaking wedding venue. This place is tucked away behind Wesleyan University, down a little rural road...you'd never know it was there. Outside is so quaint and serene with a pond and a fountain in the middle. The wedding (Carly and Jason's on July 3rd) took place outside, and it was fantastic. They offered us water upon arrival, and not just any water, but infused waters! After the ceremony, we walked up a hill to the barn where the reception was. There's an actual barn and then a side room where the bar and cocktail hour took place. The staff was incredible and all friendly and welcoming. The food was phenomenal!! Best cocktail hour I've ever been to! We went outside and sat in some Adirondack chairs while we sipped our bourbon, then we took out seats at the table. We were seated on the second story, which I thought was super cool, because we were able to look down and get a really nice view of all of the action. A few downfalls of being on the story were that you were kind of too far AWAY from the action, but nothing to trip down the stairs couldn't handle. While being on the second story was cool, my boyfriend had hurt his leg a few days prior, so walking up and down the stairs was not fun for him. Other than that, everything was great. No matter how that barn was decorated, each and every wedding is (and probably will be) absolutely beautiful. We had the best time, & I hope that more of our friends in the future choose to get married at this venue! read more

Partners son just got married here last weekend and the entire family was blown away by this place! Gorgeous rustic setting, both the grounds and building. This is one hard working staff too .. from the wedding planner to all the staff who bartend and serve. Nothing was too much trouble, everyone smiled from beginning right up to the close of the night. Amazing people. The food was OUTSTANDING too. A cocktail hour with amazing hors d'ouevres followed the ceremony. There was a huge table full of everything from cheeses, cold apps and fresh fruit .. to a Mac&Cheese table too .. where u added ur own toppings to their delicious mac & cheese. Servers were also passing around serving things like chicken satay, bacon wrapped scallops, gourmet pizza slices. I could have made a meal out of just this room! Then we were called into the main room for dinner. Our menu was a delicious corn and bacon chowder and the entrees were a stuffed sole, filet mignon or a grilled chicken. Top quality food and the presentation on each plate was perfect. Staff was so attentive and worked so hard serving everyone .. which involved a lot of dodging and maneuvering people who were up standing. This was a party where no one sat for long .. even to eat! Servers always checking on drinks, passing through with bottles of red and white wine for refills. Amazing service. It was a great night and this place is a winner! read more

Buyer beware , awful management, would not reimburse for a wedding that they could not accommodate due to Covid. Wedding planned for 2020, gave one year extension than offered to have an outside wedding in April instead of the original inside venue. Amazing venue! My cousin got married here recently and they held the ceremony and reception on site. The landscape surrounding the site is beautiful and right next to a small pond with a nice treeline that made for great pictures. It is also conveniently located near the center of Middletown. It was only about 5 minutes away from our hotel which made it easy to get to and from but also far enough off the main roads to give us that cozy feeling that it was our own spot. Inside The Barns was just a nice. The staff did an amazing job decorating and making the perfect ambiance for the evening. The food was delicious from the passed horderves, appetizers stations, 3 course dinner, to the desserts. The staff was professional, attentive, and on point. Jack was the main wedding coordinator and helped us from the first point of the rehearsal to the end when our shuttle bus was picking us up and every point in between. He is extremely caring and experienced and made sure everyone had a perfect night. Stefan was helping us at our table and behind the bar and because of him my dinner was excellent and at no point in the evening did my drink get lower than a quarter full. Overall one of the best weddings I ever attended. If your looking for a place to have a wedding or another special occasion then look no further. I can only attest to this location as a wedding guest- but I have to say I am really impressed. Not only was the food AMAZING, the staff was exceptional. I had such a great time, the bar did not make any "skimpy" drinks during open bar, the staff was polite and engaging, and they constantly came back to check on everything. The woman who was probably my friends wedding planner at the location itself, came by the tables atleast 2x that I remember asking how everything was. The mini tacos were made with pulled pork, the cheese and italian meat platter was amazing, and the actual venue was beautiful. The only thing I would say is the downfall, is that it was extremely warm once everybody starts dancing. What do you expect from a barn, but overall if there was a really large number of guests, I could see it being uncomfortable. This place is a complete and utter scam. Unfortunately, due to personal circumstances and pandemic related reasons we had to cancel our wedding at The Barns. Not only did they express zero remorse for our situation, they were unwilling to assist us in any way possible. This place was unwilling to provide any partial or full refund despite our countless attempts at finding an alternative solution. The entire time we chose this location for our special day they continued to manipulate conversation and the prices kept going up. Pay close attention to the price of this location and how they will continue charging you for every little thing you want to add. I HIGHLY recommend anyone looking to get married or celebrate their special day find another location. Please read this post and take into consideration when planning your special day. This is not how business is done and considering everything the world has gone through over the past two years this business should be ashamed. Jonathon, their COO is rude, inconsiderate, and disrespectful. The way he speaks over the phone, and his rude email telling me that I was not allowed or welcome to speak to anyone at The Barns. He continues to run this business terribly and should consider changing careers. I had my wedding at The Barns 5/15/16. It was an amazing day. The grounds were so pretty, the food was fantastic and the staff kicked ass! The ambiance was perfect. I really didn't need to bring much, they had so many cute decorations they put out for us. They made every part of the planning process super easy. We came from California so there was only so much we could bring. So it was awesome to have everything you could need or want in one place. I had Jenna as my coordinator. She did such a wonderful job. A total pleasure and she new what she was doing. She kept everything flowing and I never went without a cocktail in hand. I would 100% recommend this place to anyone. Even if you couldn't afford this venue I know the CT Wedding group has some other awesome properties that might be more budget friendly. I would recommend the whole CT Wedding Group as a whole. I wish I could do it all over again. It went by so fast. read more
