I attended a Gong Immersion event at Avani Studios at Sky Fitness…read more A gong immersion, or gong bath, does not involve water but instead being immersed in the sound vibrations of a gong, believed to be healing to the body by entering a relaxing or meditative state. I knew what to expect because I had attended a gong bath many years ago. That experience had me falling asleep, experiencing synaesthesia, seeing explosions of light, color and sound, as well as feeling very peaceful and relaxed. This immersion was held in the yoga studio and was at capacity. You set down a mat, and other blankets, with feet in the direction of the gong. (This event had five sound healers and gongs). We started with some stretches and yoga. Then you lie down, palms up, legs uncrossed and listen. It's hard to describe the sound. It's deep, almost like a rumble, kinda like the cymbals, but more than just hearing, I also felt it in my pulse. With five gongs it's almost like a symphony with sounds and vibrations building on top of each other but you don't just hear it coming from the direction of your feet, it seems to be coming from every direction, immersing you in vibration. At this point I went in and out of sleep and certain sounds made my limbs twitch. One certain sound seemed to jolt me awake and I saw yellow or green pops of color (my eyes were closed). After that, I started to get restless and could not stay still and needed to stretch. I think at that point I had enough and it was maybe 10 minutes more (the total gong portion was 75 min?). I felt very tired (perhaps extremely relaxed?) and calm, my eyes were tearing (???), and we then had a short deep breathing and meditation. The gong practitioners were lovely, beautiful souls who promoted peace and healing. I felt at peace and in a more refreshed state of mind than when I started. I would attend another of these events but next time I would bring more blankets.

This wasn't a small misunderstanding -- it directly influenced a major financial decision. Businesses make mistakes, but when incorrect information leads a customer to spend more on a health plan, there should be accountability and a reasonable remedy. Unfortunately, we were offered none.

The Little Bear Park is actually a section within the larger Gallery Park, so you may need to put that in if your GPS is confused about LBP. This park was established as part of the redevelopment of the military airfield in Glenview. Overall, I was disappointed in the park, but there were some things I really loved about it along with those that left a bit to be desired. First, it looked like a gorgeous, romantic garden like you might envision from an Austen novel. Truly a beautiful setting, with a small hedge maze and a several picnic tables. Quite an idyllic little spot within the larger park, and ostensibly where it gets the "garden park" part of its name. There's also a really awesome water feature here. It's really large, and unlike some "splash pads" that are little more than a tall pipe sticking out of the ground, this one had several arms coming out of the ground of different heights. It also had some water coming from spots in the ground, for a lot of different ways to play. My kiddo got soaked and loved it. Sadly, the playground section looked kind of old and worn. It has a cute castle/medieval theme, but all the play equipment was quite faded. Of more concern was that the playground terrain, which was that composite rubbery stuff, was broken off in quite a few places; more than once my babe brought me small or large pieces. Seems potentially fraught in a few different ways, but it was weird since in all the parks I've been to with that kind of ground cover I haven't seen chunks of it missing throughout the playground. There's lots of parking at/around this park, because it shares space with a middle school and park district headquarters. The playground itself isn't the attraction for me--though if we are already in Glenview, I might stop--but I would absolutely return for a beautiful picnic in the garden, and that's what really makes it shine.

First of all, gear up, because the beach is open this year and you'll be able to swim! It's a private beach and not free, so you'll have to follow this link (https://www.pdhp.org/beaches/parking-2/) for resident and non-resident fees. This year you can purchase a swim pass and a parking decal. I entered via the dirt path that leads down to the beach so I could make my way back up the stairs for a good stair climb. The path was nicely cleaned up and breathtaking all on its own. Surrounded by lots of foliage and overlooking the ravine, I walked until I met up with the beach boardwalk. The boardwalk is all cleaned up and nicely refreshed. Looks like it did when it first opened! The beach sand is all freshened up and ready for summer. The play structures for kids are covered (but not sanitized). The best part? The steep, really-great-for-your-legs staircase now has handrails! This is such a huge plus for when you can't quite make it up and need to lean over a rail to hold yourself up (don't judge). It was a nice quiet walk, since the beach isn't actually open yet, but it will get crowded for certain. Parking lots have meters.

We walked south past the concessions and over near the boating facility. We typically don't leave our car unattended, just in case we might get a ticket. We took the risk, and it was so worth it. TBH I don't think they are monitoring the parking lots or ticketing right now, but I'm not 100% sure. What an absolutely gorgeous discovery! We honestly felt like we were on vacation (without kids). The air was fresh, the water was fairly calm, and we felt grateful to be living near such a beautiful oasis. Along the walkway we discovered a play area for kids, boats ready to launch, a covered area with picnic tables, tall lampposts and pristine landscaping. At the very end of our walk was a goose waiting for her goose companion to come back from sea (lol). We learned from a local that the goose had been there for a few days. Anyway, the sidewalk came to an abrupt end, something like out of a Shel Silverstein poem. We turned around, took a deep breath, and received a call from one of our sons that he and his brother were about to bring a bunch of friends over to our house. And just like that, our peace and calm came to a stop. Until next time...

I was harassed/shamed when I requested a reasonably accommodation to be dropped off/picked up. I did not ask for entry/parking. All I wanted was a small accommodation to be dropped off and picked up. I was harassed and wasn't allowed to be picked up due to my disability. This is a violation of the ADA (American Disability Act) and was discriminated against due to my disability. LFB is considered a public park and was in violation of my rights as a person with a disability. I understand there are rules and I just wanted a reasonable accommodation to be allowed to be dropped off and picked up not harassed and shamed and left standing in the heat while my husband explained the situation. He showed the gate guard a copy of my "Illinois ID marked as a person with a disability." Beach management need to educate their staff as to making simple reasonable accommodations for people with a disability. They (staff) have no rights to judge and disregard persons with a disability. Such can be reported and subject to significant fines and lawsuits. I suggest ADA compliance and policies for persons with a disability are seriously reviewed and followed according to the American Disability Act. This should NOT have transpired and was humiliating, to be honest.

They therefore went back to the first area, only to have an employee scold us for going back there because "it was already cleaned for the next group." We had no idea they were getting ready for another party. Again, it would have been better to politely say in a microphone prior to moving (so all can hear) that "we are moving on to another area and to not go back to the former as it's being prepared for another group." When we got to the eating area, one of the employees was so intrusive with the bussing of the table! She kept reaching out under *everyone* to get every little wrapper, juice box or a plate that appeared finished. For the love of God! This was so aggravating and other parents noticed as well. At least twice I had to tell her that my kids weren't finished. You couldn't even set something down without fear it would be taken right away! Another thing I found rude is that the employee announced coldly that the kids "couldn't get the cupcake until their pizza was finished." What the hell? This was not enjoyable at ALL, and my 2 boys (7 and 8) did not like this place one bit. We felt shoed out the door. Suggestion: Have employees who actually interact with the kids with organized games. Employees need a microphone as well, for announcements. Smile and cease the cold and demeaning comments. When in the eating area, PLEASE let parents and children eat in peace. Clean up afterwards, not during!!

This place has changed my life. I started going a few months after I had my baby as I was struggling with post partum badly. My doctor recommend some exercise to help me and I thought I would give this a try as I hate working out. I fell in love and became addicted the first time. Since then besides fixing my health, I have gotten my body back and then some. I don't think I have ever looked this good or felt this good about my body. The teachers are amazing. Uplifting and encouraging pushing you throughout the class to give it your all. I love how every class is different too. I have been taking Agnes classes for 2 years ( took a break while pregnant ) and started back up a month post partum. In the beginner class, you can take it easy as you need if you're starting out and gradually add more to challenging yourself. She changes up her flow and class every week, so you are consistently working different areas of the body. I took yoga classes at random and used to feel it a slow boring waste of time more or less a relaxing class that does "stretching". I love to lift and do intense endurance cardio. It wasn't until going here consistently that I was blown away with the fitness aspect of yoga- the strength/flexibility/core stability/etc. involved. You will be challenged more than you possibly think and I promise the health benefits, both mentally and physically, will surprise you! I highly recommend Melt and the classes here. Side note: The owner rocks.

The trainer, Stephanie, was literally the best trainer ever. So motivational, encouraging, positive, understanding, and just overall incredible. Definitely take a class with her! The studio itself is bigger than it looks like from the outside. It's so clean, modern, and the staff definitely takes care of you. The actual rooms where the workouts take place are pitch black with colored low lights and you can hear the music blasting from them when you pass by. I loved it! Stephanie played great, heart pumping music for our class, too. I will definitely be back here for another class with Stephanie or with other instructors. I'd love to try another cycling class and also different classes since they have so many. Thank you Inspyr for a powerful workout!

I prefer a lot of cardio when it comes to my workouts and whenever I try Dailey Method my mind starts to wander and then I realize I'm not even doing the move correctly...and there goes my workout. When my nanny called in sick today I found myself wondering what I would do with my 2 year old for 5 hours until his sister was ready to be picked up at school. Friends mentioned they were taking their 2 year olds to the Dailey Method while they did a class so I figured I'd give it another shot. If the workout wasn't any good at least my son would have fun for an hour playing with the other kids. I haven't left him on his own very often so admittedly I was a bit nervous about it, but figured this would be good prep for camp this summer. I was so impressed with the kids club. It's a small room, but had everything my son would want to keep him entertained for an hour: trains, a kitchen & (yes) a TV. Elizabeth was the caretaker in the room and she was very warm and the kids took to her instantly. In fact, when I went to pick up my son an hour later he didn't want to go home and was giving Elizabeth hugs. Sooo if you're looking for somewhere to workout with good children THIS is it. The class itself was fine. It was a Dailey Basics class so easier than most. Debbie, the instructor, played great music, had complete control of the class and did her best to make sure we were all doing the moves correctly. I did find my mind wandering a lot during the class & feel like I didn't actually get a workout today, but that's based on my own preferences & not the class itself. If you like bar classes you would likely be a fan of Debbie's class. I was excited to see that they offer spinning here. That's one class I'd definitely be interested in trying since it combines cardio with body sculpting. So perhaps I"ll be back for that...and for my little one to visit his new friend & toys in the kids room.

I camped out beneath one of the awnings in the front of the building. A blonde woman came out and offered to have me come in their building. I politely declined as the rain was almost over and I didn't want to dirty up their place with my muddy fat tire ebike and soaking wet clothes, but I did want to call them out for the kind gesture. They seem like nice people.

I love this studio. The people here are all so friendly…read more I started doing Amy's Barre class. I never knew pulsing could prevent me from walking the next day! Amy's class was a great workout! She's super nice! I now take Tami's Dailey Interval class every Thursdays (or at least try to) at 9:45 and it's been amazing. Tami is very energetic and is always motivating everyone to push harder. The bonus is that it's only 45 minutes! This studio has a kids babysitting area so work out while your kids are entertained. Parking is available on the street - Just don't park in the 30 minutes zone and by the fire hydrant!
