I popped in here on a Saturday afternoon, at the worst time, because there were multiple events happening - cheerleading and Blue Jackets. They were fairly full when we arrived, but we snagged a two-seater against the wall. There's LIMITED SEATING - so don't plan to come with a group of friends if your intent is to have a few beers at the bar. DO come in a group if you plan on getting food and beers and moving upstairs! We only wanted a couple drinks - and as the crowd was coming and going we didn't want to take up too much space. When I went up to order - they asked if I wanted a plastic cup to go! You can get a beer and peruse the market. Not our end-game this time, as I was planning to build a six-pack. Both ladies working were flying back and forth, taking care of people coming up to the bar, sitting at the bar, and every person that walked up to the register (some people were buying drinks to go, some in cups to walk, and a few people grabbed some of the limited seating present). They have a pretty decent selection of wines and beers available for purchase - some beers on shelves, and a decent selection in a cooler. I had narrowed down to a few choices, and I asked for suggestions and the bartender hopped over and lead the way, and talked about several beers with me (after the usual "what kind of beer do you like? question... which for me is, "yes, please."). She gave me excellent suggestions, and I moved from a 4-pack (you get a discount) to a (more discounts!) 6-pack. They have a GOOD selection for the North Market. It's not the best in the world, and it may not beat a place near where you live, but if you're in the North Market, and you want a good beer and good vibes in a little corner? I'm a big fan of the barrel and bottle. They're always pouring fun wine and beer, and they oftentimes have free wine tasting. This past weekend Chris from Wine Trends featured PNW labels and of course I had to take a bottle of the substance pinot noir by Charles Smith. They have a ton of fun labels and good variety in varietal and in pricing. There is an orange wine I pick up every time I go to north market (Bonny doon) as this is the only wine my mother in law will drink haha. I quite enjoy their Frico dry rose by the glass. Vibes are alway right at Barrel and Bottle so I like to bring my food here to eat! read more

This North Market bar is the perfect hidden gem located across from the convention center. Super lovely storefront with knowledgeable staff on hand each day I visited. Mario was the bartender and the drinks were superb. If you are a Bloody Mary person I highly suggest their house made mix. It's super delicious and will leave you wanting another. I really couldn't wait to try any of the recommended beers before posting this review because I had to gush on the amazing customer service. I stopped in on my way back to Nashville, not being too familiar with OH craft beers. I walked in, and right away one of the employees asked if I needed assistance. I asked for her top 8 selections and boom, boom, boom, done. She also just happened to be the beer buyer, and I'm sorry I didn't get her name. Either way, her customer service was awesome, the vibe in the store was awesome, and the market setting was awesome! I will definitely be back for more beers the next time I'm in Columbus. read more

This is the only bar currently inside the North Market. It has 2-3 small tables and 5-6 seats at the bar. It's nice that they have a takeout place for those who want to sip and browse. My husband and I luckily found seats at the bar on a Saturday afternoon. When we sat down a bartender told us the ladies (3 of them) were coming back as they went out to smoke. Why didn't one stay back and save seats? Why did the bartender allow 1/2 of his seats to sit empty for 15 - 20 min? We sat down anyway, and when the people did return they asked my husband to move. Being a gentleman he did. I then realized that these ladies must be friends with the bartender as I heard him giving them special prices while also saving their seats. To double down... 3 of the items we ordered were out of stock. We heard other patrons ordering out of stock items as well. I'm looking forward to the North Market expansion including another bar with more space and better selections and service to everyone ..not just bartender friend service. read more

This is a nice little find inside of North Market. While walking around looking for something to eat, for some reason I was drawn here. Weird, especially since it's nothing but bottles. Great if I was on a liquid diet, but I digress. I browsed a bit and was pleasantly surprised by the selection they have. It's not your typical stuff you find at other places. After much scouring, I decided on a White Pale Ale from Japan. The shop itself is a bit small, but the staff here are very friendly and polite. Paying was a breeze and they were smiling the whole time to show their appreciation that you chose to shop in their spot. read more

I don't even know where to start with this places..but let's just say this is a foodie's HEAVEN! First off parking, they have a parking lot that a pay rate per two hours however, you can get validation from whichever place you choose to dine inside and receive a free hour of parking so that was awesome! They have a cute picnic bench style seating area outside to enjoy your food and/or drinks when the weather is nice. The weather was around 85 so we made sure to take advantage! Now as soon as I walked inside, it's legitimately a food hall with anything you can choose from: seafood, Thai, American, Baked Goods, Wine/Spirits and so much more. I opted for some seafood and to partake at one of the beers on tap. The salmon burger from The Fish Guys was fresh and the homemade sauce made it that more delicious. For a burger with chips and drink, it was roughly $10! I headed over to the Barrel and Bottle where I was greeted happily by Princess. I was able to sample one of the beers and for a nice size glass it was $6. I was thoroughly pleased with all purchases and just the environment and will come back if I'm ever in Columbus! read more

Located in the North Market, which was a day one discovery for me while I was in town for work, the Barrel and Bottle is one of the best bottle shops for beer I have visited. Their selection is amazing given their size, and they clearly know their stuff as the selection is amazing. The staff are outstanding and very knowledgeable. I would recommend the Barrel and Bottle to anyone who is a beer lover, especially anyone from out of state staying nearby attending a convention who might be able to find some treasures that you can't get back where you live (Ballast Point Sculpin was the one for me). My wife and I load up at the outdoor farmers market spots, hit all the inside stalls then grab a snack and head to B&B for a beverage or two to enjoy with our snack. Yes! You can take your food and eat it there with a drink, or get a drink and walk around and shop! They have a great selection of wines and beers on tap as well as a few solid cocktails to cover all bases. When we're ready to head home, the friendly servers who took care of us at the bar help us select from the wide range of beers and wines we might want to take home. In need of some wine to go with a dinner I was grabbing ingredients for at North Market, I decided to stop in at Barrel and Bottle, and was very pleased with how they listened to what I needed, made suggestions, and pointed me to wine that fit my price range and was (gasp!) actually very good! The only weak spot is that because of the limitations of their in the market, they cannot provide tastings to go with their suggestions, which keeps House Wine & Camelot Cellars just above them on the "best shop in Columbus" leaderboard. read more

However, the staff at The Barrel & Bottle were really great to me when I went in the other day, and for my future wine needs, this is where I'm going. I am in love. Seriously. I have longingly looked at this place several times, but never ventured within. I highly doubted I could afford any of the wine (I have a strict less than $10/bottle policy...it's not really my policy as much as my bank accounts policy). And I love craft beer too much to even tempt myself by going into a store that clearly knows how to stock the shelf. But finally I ventured in! I was pleasantly surprised to find they had a plethora of bottles for $10 and under. I selected a bottle and was really happy when the cashier totally backed up my selection with a first-hand experience of what a great tasting wine it was. Newly opened in the hip and eclectic mix of the North Market, you can find everything from locally made mead from Brothers Drake to an obscure double deuce of finely crafted microbrew from the West Coast. Being a man-about-town, I opted for a bottle of the Bros. Drake apple pie mead. And as I sit here sipping it from a fine crystal snifter handed down through generations of my esteemed lineage, my only regret is that I didn't buy a bit of brie and a french roll on my way out the door. read more

What a pleasant new discovery. I got some food at one of the vendor spots and came in here to eat and join my friends, who were having some wine. It's a nice atmosphere, with good customer service and of course good people-watching. I really liked that I could bring in my food! You can buy wine in tasting, glass, and bottle servings. I decided to get a few tastings, and when I asked for a description about one with which the manager was unfamiliar, he gave me a free tasting. This place is great. They had a great beer selection on tap as well as wine and mixed drinks. You can sit at the bar or walk around the market with your drink which is nice. They also sell wine, beer and growlers to go. What made my experience 5 stars was Pete the bartender. He was very friendly and knowledgeable. I am not a beer/wine drinker, so this is a little second-hand. We hit up North Market recently for the first time. As out-of-towners we didn't know what to expect, but knew we would find some quality beer for my boyfriend. We made Barrel & Bottle our first stop, and it was a great way to start the afternoon! My boyfriend had their samples, $1 each, and enjoyed them. For $1 you get quite a bit. He was impressed with the local selection, but also with the beer available from New England breweries. He's a sucker for beer from the Northeast. We left the first day without buying anything, but made it back the next day to get a couple six packs. We picked up a Shipyard Prelude and a Dogfish Head 60 minute IPA. Both new to him, but from trusted breweries. We also liked that we saw the CBC IPA (which he had enjoyed the night before at dinner) and some Elevator brews. Most of the 6-packs are in the cooler, and were kept very cold (a good thing, I'm told). There were also some singles for sale. This quaint shop was a joy to browse, and the employees (owners?) were very helpful and sweet. If we lived in Columbus, this would be a regular stop for libations, I'm certain! read more

The staff here are always friendly and knowledgable, and more importantly they have Aperol and Creme de Violette!! I had actually given up hope of finding Creme de Violette after reading about how hard it is to find in Ohio, but they had it right by the register. I love the selection here! it's obvious to me that they've worked hard to put together a really quality selection in a really small space. I'm not that knowledgeable about wines - and their selection looks solid - but the beer is mindblowing. they had Hitachino Nest and TWO types of Jolly Pumpkin as well as several flavors of Lindeman's Lambic. This is your place buy beer and wine in the North Market. it's a pretty small place, so it doesn't have everything that everyone imaginable would want. However, the selection is quite befitting of a place in the North Market, which is why I like this shop. They're well stocked on whatever the local brew pubs/microbreweries are bottling at the time. I'm a fan of the Elevator, and Barrel and Bottle always has both their yearly and seasonal varieties.
