Welcome back new and improved Cracker Barrel! A local favorite returns with a new look, new staff and a welcoming vibe. This is great part of the local Hingham community where you can stop to pick up a few things you forgot at the supermarket, run in to grab a great cup of coffee, pick up a bottle of wine or a 6-pack of beer, or stop for a delicious freshly made sandwich. You might run into one of your neighbors and get to have a chat. The staff is friendly and inviting. Kids love this place. You often find several bicycles parked out front. I have fond memories of small local stores like this when I was growing up so it's nice to see that there is a place that fits the same bill in Hingham where kids on bikes can drop by for a treat and adults can find a few needed things too. So glad Cracker Barrel is back and better than ever. read more

Stopped in at The Barrel for the first time and was so impressed! Truly a local gem! We ordered two sandwiches from the deli, both were excellent. The staff were so kind and even took our order before the deli officially opened, which was such a nice touch. Even though it was busy with families stopping in, kids riding up on bikes, and people grabbing items on their way to work, everything ran smoothly and felt welcoming. The outdoor seating area is great with plenty of tables, benches, cornhole, a walk-up soft serve/Italian ice window, and even a Free Little Library. Inside and out, everything was clean and well kept. Perfect mix of deli, general store, and community spot. Can't wait to come back! read more

Such a cute little country store. We got soft serve from the side window (Italian ice was the other option). They just serve in cups (no cones). Inside we got seltzer, kombucha, and the peanut butter balls someone else mentioned in a review. They are good little energy bites. Woman at the register was super friendly. read more

Friendly neighborhood place. Great stop for a snack, beer or wine or even a bit of ice cream. If you're lucky, the pet rabbit will be out in the yard and you can grab a book from the borrowing stand. read more

What an amazing facelift! This used to be a nondescript convenience store with canned cranberries and emergency Heinz. After an extended hiatus, it's a fully functional deli counter, fresh baked goods purveyor, Maine Root soda dispenser, beer and wine sellin' candy shoppe that also rocks a fully functional Slush Puppy machine. WHAT?!?! Here's your whirlwind tour: - To your immediate right, a take-away counter with pre-made sandwiches, salads and (what seem to be) tester products vying for a permanent spot on the shelf. - Following the outer edge, you'll hit a small deli counter. Sandwiches run $7-10 and steamed hot dogs are $2 a pop. Call ahead for faster service - there's only room for one staffer! - Then a beer cooler. Mostly local macro, but still. It's beer. - Frozen goods, followed by a wine wall. Gift bags and tissue paper on hand for that dinner party you got invited to and forgot to bring anything. CB got you, boo. - A huge candy display, with low-sitting boxes, perfect for grabby kids. Parents are suckers, and Cracker Barrel has 'em on lock. - Center island holds specialty chips, fresh baked and still warm soft pretzels, Maine Root sodas on tap, a full coffee bar, and a Slush Puppy machine. Hooray childhood! She raved about the Turkey Hill Gobbler (turkey, stuffing, cranberry, lettuce) on country white bread, and my Route 228 (turkey, bacon, avocado, sprouts, tomato, cukes, mozz and balsamic) on a wheat wrap was stuffed to the gills and totally satisfying. Thick, dense apple cider donuts sat under a cloche at check-out, so of course we shared one. Excellent, excellent - really rich in cider flavor. Tables outside on their own grassy lot, but be warned parking is limited to 6-7 spaces, and those along the side are blind on to a fairly busy side road. A really wonderful spot. Great place for a deli sandwich or grab and go breakfast sandwiches. The breakfast sandwiches were freshly made with real fried egg (not formed egg product) on a nice bulkie roll. I liked the self serve nitro and cold brew coffee setup as well. The coffee tasted great and there was everything you needed in the way of cream / milk and sweeteners. read more

Love this place! Just reopened and looks great. They did a really nice job with it. Has a great selection of wine and beer, but also has slush puppies and candy for the kids. Deli is so needed in the area and looks great but it wasn't open yet. Looking forward to trying that out though when it opens. read more

I've driven by this store more times than I care to remember but never stopped. After looking at the web I stopped and am very glad I did. The sandwiches are great. Not low calorie but really good. There are probably some lower cal options but their ham n Swiss, roast beef, and egg salad are all very substantial and tasty. I wish there was a better place to eat on site. There's a small, uninviting area beside the store but maybe that will change. They also have some hot foods like chicken fingers but they're not cooked to order. Many other great offerings. Fun place to stop. You'll be glad you did. Very friendly as well. Beer and wine available. Hope the new owners make it. read more

This is a convenience store but it's also one of those beating heart of a community type places where everyone seems to drop in at least once a day to gab with other regulars and the friendliest proprietor on the planet. My time is usually the morning because the coffee is very good and they stock French roast (they also have a popular flavor called snickerdoodle if you're into that sort of thing). Among the best kept secrets in Hingham though are the cold sandwiches that they make by hand daily. They're not fancy but there's usually a variety and they are the best sandwich value on the South Shore. In the summertime they offer an even better deal on amazing lobster rolls.
