    So. Many. Choices!

Such a gem of the Boston area. An amazing offering of meats and other foods, with a bakery and seafood market attached. They also offer sandwiches to order. Grabbed a small corned beef that was absolutely loaded with meat, all at an excellent price. Pleasant and helpful service too. From now on when in the area, I will go nowhere else!

I live for small specialty markets like this! It's a one-stop-shop (deli, butcher shop, bakery, lobster pound, etc.) where everything is homemade... My go-to is the italian sub. It's overloaded with fresh ingredients on good bread (not flimsy/soggy) and the meat-to-bread ratio is on point. I also like to grab some of their marinated meats to throw on the grill at home. You really can't go wrong here as they have something for everyone!

Overall, I do like this particular Big Y. I've shopped every iteration of the store- from Victory…read moreto Hannaford to Big Y and I have to say Victory was my favorite. The reasons why I liked Victory are the reasons I like the store these days. It's the only "grocery store" I've come across that carries the occasional locally grown produce, and I will shop that Produce department hard until I find where they're hiding those delicious farm-grown tomatoes. Victory used to carry a great selection of grown local produce. But other than tomatoes? It's a trip out to Bridgewater or somewhere else on the edge of the world to find a farm stand. Their rotisserie chicken is pretty tasty, but . . . I have to admit, I lived on Victory's rotisserie chicken all one summer while they carried a Korean BBQ flavor. A little variety here might be nice, just sayin'. I'm not going through every department but, it's especially irksome to consistently get 90% of my shopping list filled here and still have to go to S&S for my cat's preferred brand of litter- it's just not carried here. However, the employees are friendly, so very normal without dragging their personal idiosyncrasies into work for everyone to deal with ( I'm thinking of you, S&S) and if something goes wrong as it did for me this week, the employees will fix it and make it right. And the biggest thing that always stands out for me is that of all the employees I've made chit chat with over the years, people seem to long-time workers and most important of all they speak of how much they like working here. That goes a long way for me when customer-facing workers say that. So it's no Victory and I still have to roundup the loose ends of my shopping lists elsewhere but I like it! The store is clean; no surprises, no giant wins but no giant losses, either. Steady. Almost forgot the donuts! I haven't eaten a donut in 10 years until lately, and they're only from here! Hey, Mr. Big Y, could you just consider carrying Baskin Robbin's ice cream? Do us a solid and save me a trek over to S&S Norwell!

This review is long overdue. I have no particular grocery…read morestore allegiance but if I'm driving home from work or close by I'll stop and do my shopping at the Big Y in Norwell for one reason, the customer service. I think his name "Dave" and he is a manager. By far, the best customer service experience I've had. He is attentive to individual needs as he muti tasks from the front service desk to bagging. He is out in the parking lot collecting carriages!! He is patient with less than tech savvy shoppers. The store is ok, the customer service is beyond compare.

Was shopping as usual at this location besides other same company's in the area and I usually go in…read morethe mornings to shop up and down each aisle to get the best price for my dollars as most of the shoppers! I check and compare prices from other spots and if on Sale and worth my dollars I will buy it! I check the meat department and the Fish department plus prices for bruised or blemished fruits and vegetables that are .99cents a pound that I can prepare the same day or next... I also check for the Yellow Tags which shows it's 50% of the Price. My question and consumer concern IS!!! If the Item let's say Normally $8.99 a pound but this week was on Sale for $5.99 a pound.....if it did not sell by the Freshness Date.....they place a 50% Yellow price label to sell it fast....BUT I FOUND OUT TODAY ITS NOT 50% off as it's Printed because what their practice is from what I was explained by the person behind the Fish Counter : IS THAT THEY BASE THE REGULAR PRICE BEFORE THE SALE EVEN THOUGH THE SALE PRICE IS LISTED AND TOOK 50% OFF THE REGULAR PRICE AND "NOT" on the SALE PRICE WHICH IS ON THE LABEL! So my CONUNDRUM IS..... IS IT REALLY 50% OFF ? I Think Not! If you're going to put a Yellow Label of 50% off and a PRODUCT THATS ALREADY ON SALE, IT SHOULD BE 50% OFF THE SALE PRICE AND NOT WHAT IT WAS BEFORE THE SALE... Love to hear that rationale from STOP N SHOP Corporate! As an Example I also Shop at SHAWS AND HAVE PURCHASED MANY ITEM WHEN MARKED 50% it's OFF AT SHAWS ON THE LOWEST POSTED PRICE! Thats the Right Mindset! And another Comparison so have found in SHAWS THEIR BAKERY GOODS IS ALWAYS 50% OFF WHEN PLACED IN THE DAY OLD SECTION, BUT, STOP N SHOP IS ONLY 33% OFF when they Markdown their Day Old... funny that for Bakery Goods for the same day use I ALWAYS CHECK OUT SHAWS and Buy them there! But most of the times you really need to be Vigilant when shopping and Yes both Markets do have some great savings if you look and compare!

It didn't used to be this way but the past four or five months the shopping experience here has been steadily declining. Today at noon'ish, the hot foods counter was bare. Absolutely nothing in the trays. The cold foods were full but- tired looking. I no longer get anything from the prepared foods anyway, as I was on the losing end of an interrogation about potato salad last month (. . . and exactly why is it orange?) that was never going to provide an answer from the uninformed employee. Today, I did get prepared chicken salad this trip as it's delicious when it's made to their original recipe (rotisserie chicken, mayo, celery) but not so much when the chef skips the mayo. And celery. It looks like it has everything in it this time, so I'm hoping. Today in Produce, I did find two tomatoes on the vine. Not the delicious, locally-grown ones I found in here last week, but beggars can't be choosers, so I grabbed the last ones. Last week it was scallions. No scallions- why? That day, the helpful employee didn't deny it was odd, he just shrugged and said, "Maybe in a couple of days?". I could maybe excuse the empty shelves and the clueless employees except for the cashiers who know better than the customer. Today was the third visit I asked the employee conducting a painfully slow checkout process not to squash everything in my order into only one of my shopping bags but . . . nah, he knew best. so all went in one bag. Then he backed the cart out of his way into the line of people waiting patiently behind me, (insted of pulling it forward) saying, "You want your cart?" Why do I want that cart? I'm happy to put it back in the cart line without you running some poor woman's foot over with it, but sure, I'll drag the cart around the counter and through the line because I'm standing at the end of the counter emptying half of what's in one of my bags and filling the second bag with it anyways, so . . . I started shopping at TFM for the quality, the variety of unusual items and the pleasant employees who were helpful, doing a job, and trying to do it well. No clue what's happening, but I can't annoy myself here any more. But now I have to find Malted Milk Balls somewhere that even come close to TFM ones, and that's not gonna happen anytime soon!
