I moved out of state but returned to the Catonsville area last week and stopped in for lunch. I had the reuben sandwich and have to say--all nostalgia aside--it was the best it's ever been. The corned beef was tender and stacked high, it was not over-sauced, the kraut was sweet..it was simply fantastic. My brother got the basic burger and fries and I couldn't believe how thick the pattie was and the plate overflowing with fries. while some establishments can get lazy in their hometown familiarity, GL Shacks seems to only be getting better!

I went with the Half Soup/Half Sandwich combo, the Shrimp Salad Sandwich and the Ham & Navy Bean Soup was delicious. The shrimp salad was really good with big juicy shrimps; really well-prepared and seasoned perfectly. The soup had great flavor with way to much ham (yes I said, to much ham) I would loved to have more beans in the mix! My husband ordered the Shack Burger (medium rare with cheddar and bacon) and said it was a total winner. He loved the char-grilled flavor and said the patty was a great size. He did mention his hand-cut fries could have been a little hotter, but the texture and crispiness were spot on. We're already planning to come back to try other dishes, hopefully on a Monday to catch "Burger Day"!

Guilford Hall: Profs & Pints…read more I went to the Profs & Pints event that's hosted at Guilford Hall. So this is a 2 in 1 review. Food: Black Garlic Truffle fries: really great balanced flavors. My only complaint is the fries could've been a little crispier but that could be due to the long line of orders, it may have been waiting under the lamps because the kitchen is filling orders for both upstairs and downstairs. The truffle sauce was like an earthy, Smokey bbq sauce. I really enjoyed the flavor. Reuben Eggrolls - BOMB! So juicy, perfectly fried. I tried it with and without the house mustard sauce. It's good on its own but the mustard sauce kicks it up a notch. I've seen so many versions of cheesesteak Eggrolls, crab egg rolls, etc it's done to death in my opinion. But a REUBEN EGGROLL ?? amazing, that's the innovative thinking I like to see. And if you don't like grilled Reuben's .... Grow up House salad: I added grilled shrimp and the house creamy ceaser dressing. The shrimp was grilled perfectly, great flavors, not too salty or over seasoned. Just right. The dressing was a solid Caesar dressing and same for the salad itself. A solid house salad. I love the new menu design, so much more elevated and well thought out. If you're not a beer drinker or don't know a lot about beers, the menu provides you with recommended beer pairings for each item. They also have a new chef. I loved the old chef, I had so many personal faves on the menu so I was a little bit hesitant. But I'm intrigued about some of the new items they've added to the menu. And although I've only tried a few things tonight, I'd say so far so good. I'll be back. Ambiance: Guilford Hall is honestly a hidden gem. The venue and architecture is gorgeous. You have the main restaurant downstairs and the event space upstairs. They host so many different events as well so I would recommend checking out their events page. Service: I'd they the service was the only gripe I had. And I don't mean the servers themselves, They're great and work very hard. My gripe is with the lack of adequate staffing for the event. They only had two servers taking orders for a very full event. So unfortunately it took a long time to get your order taken. You can order at the bar but the bartenders always insist that you order at the table, which again can take forever, so people go to the bar ...... lol it's a losing game. So I'd say get there at the very beginning before the venue fills up and get your food order in or don't go on an empty stomach like I did Now for the event itself. If you've never been to profs & pints I highly recommend. There's so many interesting topics to choose from. Speaker: Dr. Todd B. Kashdan Topic: The Science of Curiosity He was a very personable and engaging, and had great delivery with the perfect balance of insight and humor. He incorporated break out sessions to encourage the audience to interact with the people at their tables. It's open seating so great for connecting with strangers. I loved his perspective. He had great presence and took a relaxed/humble yet confident approach to public speaking. A key take away for me is to remember to turn your curiosity inward without judgement. Like what would you if no one was watching and you weren't thinking about what other people think. Your initial impressions of people are often wrong and you close the door too quickly. Assuming perspective instead of getting someone's perspective because you're seeing this as a representation of one monolithic idea as opposed to understanding who they actually are. This was in relation to a question someone asked about Race and who defines what is vs what things could actually be. And how when we have more of these conversations instead of avoiding them that leads to a more open world with less isms, bullying, prejudice, etc. All in all a great night. I highly recommend.

Whether you're looking for a casual beer after shopping or a full dinner with drinks, there's something for everyone here. The menu variety is one of the biggest strengths. There are plenty of options ranging from handhelds and salads to wings, tacos, and much more, making it easy for groups with different tastes to all find something they enjoy. One standout dish is the Korean Bulgogi Cheesesteak, which is incredibly unique and very well executed. Also, for a place that focuses heavily on beer, the smoked old fashioned is actually really good and worth trying. We've visited this location several times and appreciate how convenient it is being attached to Arundel Mills Mall. Even though parking can get busy around the mall during peak times, there always seems to be a spot available eventually. The restaurant itself also offers plenty of seating, including a patio area and large bar section. The only downside is that service can be a little hit or miss during busy hours. Wait times can sometimes get long and create a bit of frustration, but overall the atmosphere, drink selection, and food quality keep us coming back.

Like if they are doing it clock-wise, you can't switch giving orders with the person after you. I thought that was funny because when the orders came, they still had to ask "who's who." Anyway, overall would reco for a mall area. Jambalaya was a hit - white, brown or pasta and the meat was generous. I'd say most servings are pretty generous. Fair kids meal pricing too, with usual crayons and activity paper menu. If the server take nice group picture I would have rated 6! J/k. Only reason it's 4 is because I don't feel the servers have the "right" energy for that day. I would have understand if it was one of them but both of them were almost nonchalant. LOL!

He was personable, professional, and knowledgeable of menu items, and any questions/issues were promptly addressed. Now for the food. The starter was Naked Steakhouse Wings with assorted sauces. It was fine. Caesar Salad with dressing, which was a little too vinegary for my tastes, so it was just ok. The entrees consisted of the FiIet Kebab basted with Teriyaki Sauce. The Teriyaki Sauce was reminiscent of cornstarch gravy - not a fan. The sauce was not tasty and seemed to have been poured over the kebab - not basted. Plus, it came out cold over undercooked Wild Rice. It was disappointing. However, they remade it without the teriyaki, and that was sufficient. My niece was not happy with the Parmesan Peppercorn Chicken. Wasn't at all tasty. It was tough and flavorless. My grand nephew ordered a Lobster Tail and a Center Cut USDA Sirloin Steak. The lobster tail came drenched in butter, and for some reason, Old Bay seasoning which was not requested. The Restaurant Manager, Mr. Hosane admitted a mistake had been made. The next Lobster Tail came out with too much butter and paprika. I'm sorry, I dont want Old Bay or Paprika on my lobster, period. The steak was cooked to order. However, it didn't seem to have been finished properly. Finally, the signature drink Blueberry Strawberry lemonade was not made with Stoli, but Smirnoff. I noticed a difference, so i ordered a second with a shot of Stoli on the side. It was then I was told that they did not have any Stoli. So. When I come back in the area, I will give them another chance--restaurants can have a bad day-- but in the meantime, the food was subpar. For me, consistency is key.
