If you're looking for the perfect activity to do solo, with friends, or as an interactive date night, then you must try the distill your own liquor class at Ellicott Distilling. I've been to Ellicott Distilling twice. Once as a solo date night for myself and recently as a small group with my family. And both times I had an absolute blast. If making your own liquor doesn't draw you in then the taco bar, welcome drink, endless samples of liquor, and an all-around great time will do it. Arkadi, the owner is an amazing host and keeps the class lively. You kick off the class putting some food from the taco bar on your stomach, which you will definitely need, and make your first cocktail of the day. From there you get going with the distilling process, which is a pretty neat process to learn about. You don't realize how much science goes into making the spirits we all love to consume. And I love the little old timey distilling machines each person uses to make their liquor of choice. Once the liquor starts dripping you head downstairs for a little tour and barrel sampling. And then back upstairs to finish off your custom flavored bottled and some trivia. The trivia is a win, win because even with wrong answers you still win with samples of various flavored liquors. My family and I were the only ones attending for the day, so it was a very intimate class that we all thoroughly enjoyed. First time at Ellicott Distilling in Historic Ellicott City and it was AMAZING. It's a super quaint spot and the owner ran our class--he's knowledgeable, personable, and made the whole thing really fun. We got to make our own flavored drink (your choice of alcohol), did tastings along the way, and even played trivia. Brunch was served; tacos + mimosas + punch, cookies, and the drinks were unlimited. On Sunday mornings from 10am-Noon they do a distilling class. You register online, $24 registration fee and $54 once class is complete. You pick your spirit (whiskey, vodka or gin) and your flavors for infusion. Lots of choices. You also start designing your label. The class itself is fun but a little disorganized. The owner is good fun. I would say if they eliminated a few stations it would allow for a little more room. You are basically doing the finishing steps in the process and adding flavors. It's very hands on. They do a no stress trivia which everyone participated in. Lots of sampling of all of their products. They have Mimosas and Boody Marys as well as a taco bar. The food won't count as a meal. I would eat breakfast first or plan on going out for lunch afterwards. There's plenty of street parking at that time. read more

Don't be deterred when stepping into a vacant distillery chamber on the first floor, continue to the back stairs and follow the labyrinth of steps and turn to the bar area. Don't stop there. Follow the stairs beside the bar to a quaint outdoor patio. Don't stop there. Keep going up the stairs to the crows nest patio for a spectacular view of Old Ellicott City (OEC). Enjoy the cocktails. Fun vodka distilling class offered at the distillery nestled in on Main st downtown Ellicott City. The class was about $85. You definitely get your monies worth from the adult chemistry class, product sampling, welcome beverage, mid class beverage and shots for wrong answers on the end of class quiz. Be warned. The bar in this place and the location of the class is on the top floor of the building. You have to go up two flights of steps. This place is not handicap accessible! The bar is fully stocked with all the spirits they perduce. There is also a patio behind the bar and up another steep flight of steps is a lookout were you can see all of downtown Ellicott City. The only down side to this class and it may have just been on the night I went was the owner ran the whole thing by himself. Arkadi was super friendly and very helpful but he needed some help himself. We were a class of 16 and he was really stretched thin. We were a good group though. We all helped him keep things flowing as best we could. read more

What a fun experience! We went for their distilling class and was able to choose between vodka and gin. Checking in was very casual, Arkady was there to welcome us and even remembered the names of all 15 of us. The set up was super informative and i learned so much about the distilling process. After we picked our mixins we got a tour of the very modest distillery. For such a small space they really pack in some goodness! We were able to try a couple of things straight from the barrel, even a youngish bourbon which was really quite delightful. After the tour we went back up for some trivia, Arkady kept it fun when you "lost" you got to try some fun spirits so everyone was a winner! During that time our spirits were still distilling. At the end we each walked out with a personalized bottle, full tummys (from the taco bar) and full of fun! I cant wait to do it again as it wa the perfect girls day out! read more

I took the vodka/gin distilling class at Ellicott Distilling Co. and had an amazing time. It was super chill, really informative, and just a lot of fun overall. You can tell Arkady, the owner, genuinely loves what he does; his energy was so infectious and made the class even more enjoyable. It felt like learning science from your cool, enthusiastic friend who happens to be really into spirits. The space itself is small but cozy and welcoming, with a mix of distillery, bar, and restaurant vibes. We got to sample different spirits, hear some cool facts about the chemistry and history of distilling, and honestly, I didn't want the morning to end. Everyone there, from Arkady to his wife and the other staff, was so kind and easy to talk to. I'd 100% do it again and definitely recommend it if you're looking for something fun and different to do around town!!! :) read more

Up on the top deck they have a long walk to get to you, But they don't seem to mind. The service was excellent.We just got the Buffalo chicken dip. It was outstanding. I got the bourbon and liked it. Went ahead and bought a bottle to take home. Very reasonable prices. They have the distillery set up on first floor. And the bar on the second floor. Great atmosphere. I have been coming here consistently for throughout 2022 I love the vibe it has inside. The drinks are well made, there's karaoke and trivia nights, good music, plenty of seating (with an outdoor area when there's nice weather) They do offer some food so please try one of the dips The owner is friendly and always treats customers with respect. My favorite drink on the menu is the Red Strength Potion (I believe based off the game "The Legend of Zelda". There are other drinks that are based off of Avengers, Harry Potter, Aquaman, Game of Thrones and Star Trek! They have regular drinks too and some warm drinks such as spiked cider or spiked hot chocolate (for what it's cold out) Parking can be a little tricky if it's a busy night, but there are parking lots a little further away in two other locations that you can park in. Ellicott Distilling Co. is a lovely local distillery with a nice variety of spirits to enjoy. I first tried their rum at a farmer's market and after purchasing a bottle and making many great cocktails, I determined to visit the source. On the lower part of Main Street in Old Ellicott City, you'll find the distillery. It has a small footprint, so it can get cramped going inside. When we first showed up, it was so packed we decided to sit at their tables out on the sidewalk. A nice lady came out to greet us and happily took our drink orders and let us try any of the spirits that we requested. All of them are smooth and rich. My ginger mojito had a nice kick of ginger, though I dare say that I prefer the classic. My wife got a whiskey smash which was also refreshing on a warm Sunday afternoon. Most of the spirits are in the mid to upper 20s in price and the fancier liqueurs like the limoncello or their single malt run higher in the 30s or 40s. For now, they are open only on weekends, starting Friday at 5:00 p.m. Pop on in and try them out sometime! read more

Ellicott distilling was a gem in Old Ellicott City. The staff are very friendly, knowledgeable about the drinks, and very helpful. The drinks were amazing but the food blew us away! We ordered an Italian sandwich and a hot reuben sandwich and both were gone in a few minutes, they were that good! This might turn into a monthly date place for me and my hubby. Highly recommend. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because the seating area felt like it was 90 degrees inside and the steps were really steep. read more

Have always wanted to check this place out but was very disappointed with the service. A large group was leaving as we got there and the place was a mess. The bartender was drunk and was paying customers in shots to clean up the glasses and tables. There were a total of 5 people in the place (including us) when we ordered and it took over 30 mins to get our drinks. The drinks were good and strong which was the only positive of this experience. After seeing this restaurant walking past a few times I really wanted to support them. We finally went in to order some drinks and check it out. My friend and I ordered the gin mojitos and our other friend ordered a strawberry vodka and liqueur cocktail thing. The ginger mojito was interesting, it tasted good though a little watered down. It also had huge chunks of ginger in it and to quote my friend "I don't particularly enjoy chewing my drink" The strawberry cocktail was over strong and when we ordered a lemonade to mix with it to tame it out the lemonade that came was basically water with some lemon wedges in it (we confirmed it was "lemonade") The fruit charcuterie was cute and the right price point. The highest point of this place is the patio and the layers it has to it. If they could class the place up, re-evaluate their cocktails, and maybe make the place a little more modern, it could be a place I enjoy going to. In the mean time I might come for a cocktail every so now and then. read more

The atmosphere is great but very small (which is obvious) I came during music fest so there were more people than usual so it made it cluttered in the upstairs bar and just SUPER loud. The bartender was the sweetest human though- very welcoming! I ordered a strawberry mojito and I did not like it whatsoever. It didn't taste like club soda was in it, very flat. The limes or the mint was not fresh. I ended up throwing it up (and that was my first drink of the day!). It was just very off :( I also ordered the buffalo chicken dip. That was pretty good, mostly cheese though. It came out very appealing as well which was a plus and offered carrots, celery, and bread with it! I'm not sure but maybe the owner (?) helped me with my bill and gave me a box and she was very sweet. I'm assuming this place is getting more visitors due to the upstairs bar and has a little ways to go to perfect the place, but the staff really made my experience and I could see it did the same for other customers as well. read more

On the day I was there a few servers had called out sick, so service was slow. But it was also thoughtful. These distillery workers put on the spot made a wonderful and welcoming place. The cocktail I had (a twist on a Gin Rickey) was lovely. My sandwich was delectable (the cranberry grilled cheese). After my meal I asked for some pointers on which bottles to buy for a gin/vodka drinker, and the staff obliged. I highly suggest at least trying either the house specialties and, at the very least, venturing outside you comfort zone. There is much expertise here waiting just beyond the surface. I'm not going to rip these guys too hard here since they've only been in business for six months, but whoever reads this that works there you need to stop selling your whiskey and Brandy. You don't sell whiskey that is six months old, it needs to age. Especially the brandy, the brandy tastes like vodka. The rye and bourbon whiskies have absolutely no flavor. Lastly, there are no signs that lead to the bar up the stairs. Also the bar is a bit cramped. I would wait at least a year or two before I visit them again. read more
