Our kid played a 9-hole tournament here. We're always surprised at the low reviews of some of these golf courses we visit. Maybe because we're not hoity-toity. Maybe because we haven't been to Augusta National, Oak Mont or Pebble Beach... because we actually thought this was a really nice course (at least the front 9, that we saw). Upon arrival, I liked the look of the club house. Looked regal. We normally walk courses but due to a recent calf injury, we got a cart. Cart fee seemed high at $32. Is that normal? Carts are electric and were nice. Staff and members were really nice. I've been places where members were kind of pompous jerks. The old guys we saw here were nice. The one negative was that we didn't like that the driving range was on the other side of the road. We didn't have a ton of time practice prior to our tee time. Had it been easier to get to, perhaps my son could have hit some. The course itself was pretty nice too. Fairways and greens were well kept. The main negative was that there were TONS, I mean TONS OF RED FIRE ANT HILLS EVERYWHERE. One of the dads in our group stood in one and got bit. Ick. It has been really wet lately but I don't recall seeing any of the last few course we have been to. There were a few challenging holes for the kids. More water hazards that we have seen in other courses. #9 was a doozy. Overall, I thought it was a nice course. read more

Used to be a great course and I'd come every week. Haven't been in almost a year and now I remember why. They've gone up on price quite a bit, $62 is not worth the conditions. Nearly every green is full of crab grass, tee boxes are in bad shape, and a lot of the fairways and some of the greens look like a mangy dog missing grass. They even went up on range balls which were once a really fair pricing. Not sure where this money from the price increase is going too but they need to really start taking care of this course better to justify it. Staff is always great and never any issues there, just course conditions need to be worked on. I'd like to add that paying a green fee no matter the cost is no issue as long as the course meet those expectations. It gets to a point where it seems like a cash grab instead of trying to make it a great experience for players. read more

I have been a loyal member at The Battleground at Deer Park for nearly five years, which makes this situation extremely disappointing. I recently found out that my membership had been terminated without any notice, phone call, or email. As a long-standing member, I expected at the very least clear communication regarding any changes affecting my membership. When I spoke with management, I was told that because I joined prior to the new pricing structure, I would not be grandfathered in. While I understand businesses adjust pricing, the complete lack of communication and professionalism in handling this change is unacceptable. Members deserve transparency and respect -- especially those who have supported the course for years. This experience reflects very poor management and customer care. Unfortunately, due to how this was handled, I will no longer be returning or recommending this golf course. read more

This golf course is generally not good unless you are are scratch golfer.The most of the greens are no wider than 10ft so the chance of getting on them is very low. There are also so trees lining every fairway and also don't forget that most of the fairway are no wider than 70 yards. Also there is water at every hole so again if you don't hit the ball perfectly you're screwed. DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE IF YOU WANT TO HAVE FUN. read more

All around the grounds are well kept. It's an exiting course worth the price. The course has a couple of par 3 where you have to hit it over the water a bit of a challenge if you are a rookie. This course has a lot of water. read more

People who are complaining about the course conditions are somewhat missing the point - this is an old school muni track and if you compare to Augusta, yea it's a 1 star. But is it a super fun and very playable layout? Yes. Greens aside, the course is usually in pretty good shape although yes it does flood and if you play after record rains, it won't be great. The greens - yep they have been terrible in the past, they clearly had a fungus (?) issue and just lost the greens. I haven't played this year but from what I've seen, they have pretty much replaced all of the greens and I'd give them another shot. Special points to the course for trying to do things outside the average. They run a lot of promotions and this past weekend they did a birdhouse event for families and my kids had a blast. It was free, the guy running it was a really nice guy and being there made me realize I need to get a round in soon. read more

I worked and lived in Deer Park for 30 years. How does anyone let a golf course get this bad. The worst maintained course on the planet is Pasadena golf course until now. This course is pathetic and they charge 54 dollars with NO senior fees. It is March, the wet part of the year and there is cracks in the gumbo fairways because they don't water.The greens have more weeds than Bermuda. The sand traps should be filled in for lack of maintenance. Awful. I can't begin to believe that Deer Park High School would invite other schools to play at this garbage of a course. I have no idea who the greens keeper is but this person should be terminated immediately and I really have not said enough how poorly this course is. read more

Costs went from $24.00 for nine holes and a cart in 2023 to $42.00 on 8_2024, went on a Friday night with friends at 5:00 PM, the $$$ amount appalled my friends, all of them stating their unhappy opinion while playing. Ergo, this also embarrassed me since I was the one who suggested we play there. That said, the condition of the greens was only marginally better than 2023, which is to say deplorable, with sand flying behind the ball when putting, large brown spots and dirt bumps, this is not acceptable for $42.00 per round golf course. Next, the staff is rude, there is skunk smell all over the course, the concrete cart paths are old and cracked badly, and basically, I will not make the mistake of playing there for the foreseeable future. read more

You have to put in some effort to the tee boxes! They are in bad shape. I can understand the fairways due to the lack of rain, but if you are taking care of your greens, tee boxes go along with it. Hardly any grass and mainly sand on most of them, which made it really hard to put our tee in or find a good spot to even stand on to tee off. Due to the drought we had to do cart path only so there was a whole lot of walking and it was very hot. I don't remember seen any water-coolers. I don't mind the walking but please make sure there is water available. The cart girl did come around often so that was good. Overall the course has gotten better, I can see they are trying but the drought is slowing down the progress. The tee boxes though need a whole lot of work. For $50 plus, I would have expected better tee boxes. read more

Judging by the rating this isn't going to be a shocking review. First we were playing with 5 people and they made us break up. Started off bad but okay course rules. The greens were terrible...terrible. Then our two groups meet up at the end of a hole before we moved on to the next tee and the Marshal Immediately came up and harassed us. We made sure we kept separation after that. Then just randomly another marshal comes up to us right when we were about to hit our second shot and told us we had to speed up or start letting all their single golfers pass through. (We already let 3 singles go through between both groups) we said that's fine but get out of here while we are hitting and at that the marshal started cussing and getting Belligerent. Needless to say our play went to crap. We called into to complain and whatever manager was on duty said we were lying. It's just a crappy cheap course with old grouchy morons. Not worth your time or money. 50%+ of those playing were singles ... Oh and you if don't believe me about the greens look at my picture below read more

Went here last weekend and thought I would give a quick review. This is a public course located in Deer Park, so it is about 25 minutes from downtown Houston. The driving range is located across the street, so it is a little inconvenient if you want to practice before your round. The prices here are very reasonable. It was around $30 for play at 3PM in the afternoon, but I think their twilight pricing starts even earlier. The course is fairly challenging, with lots of bends, hills, and water hazards. There are definitely more elevation changes than your typical courses in the city, so that is a nice touch. I thought the course was in decent condition. The greens were a bit inconsistent, but the rest of the course was very well kept. For a public course, I like the Battleground a lot. The facilities are very nice. They even have budweiser select as an option, nice touch. Their carts have GPS as well, this is another big plus. Despite being located in BFE, I would recommend giving it a go here. It was quite empty for a saturday afternoon. For the price, this place is hard to beat. Just be prepared to lose some balls because there is a LOT of water. read more

Beautiful course and layout. Several of the greens had dead spots that were sand. Several tees were extremely hard and had dead spots that were sand. With just a decent effort from grounds crew, this course could really be elite. Very fun layout. Just need to replace a number of sections of bad greens, as well as water the tee boxes. Inexcusable to have rock hard tees. Also, it was clear the cups and tee locations hadn't been moved in far too long. Several cups were very worn out. Sad to see such a gem so poorly taken care of. None the less, still a very fun course and a great value at twilight rates! read more

Venue was nice, food was great but did not have a good experience with event coordinator

This was much easier to play than others in the area. It had some tree debris that was still on the course from prior storms. They worked me into the early schedule because severe weather was coming later in the day. I only got to play nine holes before play was called. Pretty course. Nice club house. None of the bunkers have been worked......in a while....grass is growing in the bunkers. The first two par three tee boxes are ground under repair. Greens are in poor shape. Our group quit after 6 holes. Price is $49.00 . Sad because this used to be a good course. read more

The last five times consecutively I've tried to come here there's been some reason or excuse as to why the range was closed. I'm not sure what "getting ready for a tournament" (which was the reason this time) has to do with having one dude to run the gator to pick up the balls but it's getting ridiculous. Not saying they shouldn't, but it's even a little more frustrating because every time I've gone there's always DPHS golf students there with plenty of range balls. I'd hate to be a paying monthly member if every time I came I wasn't able to use my membership. It's a Shame because I live less than 5 minutes from there. read more

My buddy and I played here yesterday. The course is in terrible shape guys. When you drive up, and from the pro shop, it looks good. The fairways haven't been mowed. The greens were even worse. The greens have no grass on them. The all have been sanded. The sand is green so it fools you from a distance. They are terrible and very, very bumpy. If you make a putt it's luck of the bump. It should be a criminal offense to take people's money and not tell them that the course is in such a state. And they have the hubris to have a large sign in the parking lot extolling the benefits of booking your next tournament there. Laughable. You and your friends will have more fun playing Golden Tee at a bar. At least the beer would be cold. Which, by the way, they couldn't even do that right. read more

This golf course is in terrible condition. Not sure what the story is but the grass is not bing cut. Terrible grass on the greens. 3 temporary greens were setup because the main green was in such bad condition. The grass on a couple of the tee boxes was almost as high as some of the ruff. read more

Fight Fight Fight! Almost a UFC-ish experience here on a almost perfect Sunday afternoon. So I just got back in town from golf lessons, a night of watching Jon Jones for the UFC bout, and a few friends wanted to check out the new swing. So we decided on Battle Ground for the price. And my goodness this place is a treat from a visual sense. The lush green fairways and scenic holes with nicely placed dangers would normally serve to intimidate, but that's not where the danger lies. After being hitting into 3 times, and the last time on 18th. We decided to have a chat with the group behind us. After denying repeatedly it was not them the previous times, and seeing these younger fellas were playing from the forward tees, we let it go. But for a moment there thing would have gotten out of hand, but on account of newbie golfers, and a lack of understanding of golf ethics, what can you do. Upside: Nice layout, free course guide, GPS carts. Minus: Hackers, newbies, Lack of working carts, green ridden with dead spots(Could be drought related). Course guides dont list any bunkers to hide from stray golf shots. I will prob never play here again, even though it is a nice course. The lowered price attracted plenty of golfers with obvious lack of experience around the links. Our round was over five hours and thirty some minutes and it almost turned in to a battle ground at the end. You've been warned, this is the Sharps town Golf Course on the East side. read more

I'm from Kansas City so my expectations on golf courses might be higher than most. With that said, this golf course is probably the worst I've come across in a long time. Cheap? Yes. But not cheap enough for how terrible the greens were. 5/18 greens were unplayable so they made alternative greens that were basically fairway length. The other 13 greens were burnt up with giant patches everywhere. The cart girl took our cards to run a tab and all the staff left so a supervisor, who was at his house, had to be called to come in to unlock a room where our cards were. You couldn't pay me to come back here and play golf again. read more

Stopped by on my way home from work to hit some balls at the driving range. Of course they are hitting off the mats (seems to be that way 80% of the time) and there was no one working inside the building. I had to use my credit card to buy balls and accepted payment but did not eject the balls. Of course there was no attendant and was forced to wait while the guy was retrieving balls out on the range. Luckily another golfer gave me his leftover golf balls. Wasn't until I was half way done that someone brought me the balls I had paid for. Disappointing experience. Hope they get their stuff together. It's in a great location but the service and quality is lacking. read more

Weekend rate is $20 + tax to walk but $50 + tax to ride. $60 for 2 people to rent a cart is insane. My buddy was under the weather so had decided to ride yesterday. The course is a nice layout although some repetitive back and forth holes on the back 9. The greens are in very bad shape, all 18 of them. We've played Battleground 3-4 times the past 2 months hoping the greens would recover but now we'll be taking our weekends games elsewhere. The golf course is very good and well kept. So why no stars. We had a work meeting at Battleground and I have to say that is some of the worst food I have ever ate. It's like a bad trip to Wal-Mart food. We had breakfast Burritos that were a joke. Nasty tortillas with egg and very little bacon. They were nasty. The fajitas we had for lunch were not any better. The fixings were not good and there was not enough meat to go around. They ran out of beef so I had to get the rubbery chicken. The service was good. Everyone was very friendly. The club house does look straight from the 90s, but is clean and they have good a/c. Do not eat here and you will really like this place. If your just here to golf then you might give it 4 or 5 stars. read more

I called a few weeks ago in the morning to play around 2pm for the twilight. The guy said there was no need for a tee time and that they would be wide open, I said, are you sure and he said yes, wouldn't give me a tee time. We drove about an hour from Cypress and there was a bunch of younger guys working there and they said the earliest we could play was around 3pm. We told him what the guy in the morning said and he said he already left, tough luck. No apology, no trying to get me on earlier or discount, could care less. i tried to go to the driving range during my lunch break around 12:15PM the doors were locked, i spoke with the attendant & he said "the range will be closed for i couple of hours so i can pick up range balls" i came back at 2:30PM, the doors are still locked and i call the driving range line & was told "it will be closed until 3:30PM or so" to which i responded "i was told it would be closed for 2 hours at 12:15PM" he responded with "we have been a little behind" i had considered gaining a membership for the driving range, after this incident, there is no longer a chance of me becoming a member here. read more

This could be a great little course one day. Right now, it's a hacker-fest in a bit of disrepair. Most of the staff was absent or disinterested, however the starter was funny and helpful. The course is in decent shape for early March. They need to fix/improve a good deal of their landscaping but the layout is nice and the ducks and cranes and turtles add to the outdoor experience. The greens are a bit hacked up and the tee boxes need some leveling and turf growth (not sure if they overseeded this winter or not). The crowd was friendly but could do with some etiquette help from the marshalls (it's ok to pick up when you're on someone else's fairway..really). The carts and equipment are pretty beat up (lots of dents and duct tape). Overall the course is fun and just needs some more attentive staff and greenskeeping TLC. It's due (overdue) for some reinvestment and remodeling, but the basic track is there to become a great little muni one day. read more

Price is right and that's about all right now. Greens are in very poor condition (almost unplayable) and ball cleaners are often empty without towels. Course has a lot of potential but I can't understand how they let the greens get much worse since the winter. Hoping they fix this as soon as possible because I like this course. read more

Get yo golf on cause this place is cheap, decently kept, nicely laid out, and rarely crowded. I hate being rushed with people droppin balls on me while i'm putting on the green. This place is usually pretty empty and you can play as you please. There are pretty open fairways and easy fast greens. This is definitely a course for those who aren't pros. I would rank the upkeep of it at average. Seen worse, seen better. Price is on point and the twilight time starts early. Definitely a good place for those who are beginners and trying to learn. read more

Battleground is a decent course. From the tips its challenging. I enjoy the course specially at the twilight price. I am in a foursome that plays course all around houston and battle ground is on the occasional few times a year. I give it a 3 stars because it is really is good but theres always a hole under repair or there's a green or two all jacked up. Up there with all the other good courses. In the area only Bay forest stands in parallel. Butttttt they do shut the snack bar down early focing you to quit drinking beer! Load up on swinging fluid at the start if you're playing twi-light. I've played a couple of other courses in Houston and so can compare this favourably. One course I played on was really quite rough - the greens had patches of mud on them! This course, however, had grass in the right places and it was cut to the right lengths (fairway, greens, rough etc...) I played at 6:35am (to beat the heat) and it was very quiet, calm and serene. The holes were challenging and the overall experience was really very nice. There is a lot of water, so if you're water-phobic, you might want to avoid this. Good course for people that aren't members of the super-expensive country-club set, but don't want to see crap courses either. This course strikes a great balance. read more

Love the course layout, and the pro shop guys are great! Unfortunately the greens have suffered over the winter.....but they'll be back. One huge negative is the guy who works at the driving range. Very sour attitude, and looms over the area. Hate to have to point this out, but that should be considered a hospitality position, where a positive and warm attitude are welcomed. This guy is terrible, and is not only wrecking a good time for patrons, but certainly harming business. read more
