I love gus ! It's the best public course in Houston and I always recommend it if anyone wants to come out to the east side Price: The prices are low and reasonable. If you come regularly like I do, I highly recommend joining their membership! It'll make your golf budget a bit better Course: The course is really enjoyable and diverse. There is some challenge with the holes that line the fence (and there for the street), so beware of wild balls going into the road. They have a great driving range and putting practice green. Unfortunately there's no where to practice chipping though Club House The club house is nice with driving range buckets by the door and the restaurant in back. They primarily have menswear items for sale. I once needed a new golf glove and they didn't have a women's small, so ladies be aware if you need last minute things like that. Other things to note: -They have the friendliest and most chill staff AND players ! Everyone is very open and welcoming if you're a newbie -There are days when a lot of students are practicing -they don't always clear post their schedule places (I've shown up and it was closed for a tournament or the driving range was closed). I wish they would use their instagram stories or posts more for this, but until they do I recommend calling ahead. - you can book a tee time online I think, but I have found it challenging to use my membership when doing that so I just call in to book it read more

I played this course for the first time on August 31 2026. I will not go back. The course itself was in decent shape and a good value. The clubhouse staff and management are the reason I won't return. I had an unusual misfortune on the 3rd hole when playing from the rough, my club slipped from my hand on the follow through and went straight up and hung in a tree. After looking on the ground I decided it must have hung up and couldn't believe it when I spotted it about 15 feet above stuck on a branch. I decided to discontinue my round and call the clubhouse to try and get help. Here is where the difficulty started. After explaining my situation to the guy behind the desk, he told me that maintenance was busy and suggested I "just write it off." I explained again that the club wasn't lost and if someone with a pole from maintenance, when available could meet me, I could show them exactly where it was and retrieve it. I asked if I could call the maintenance manager. He told me they were only on radio and said that the more I kept him on the phone the more it delayed him from contacting them. He reluctantly took my number and information on where the club was and suggested I was holding up play (when I had actually stopped my round) and said I could come back and check in the maintenance shop to see if they found it. This guy clearly had no interest in helping. About 1/2 hour later I decided to visit the clubhouse and ask for the manager. He did come out and we stepped into a private office and a second individual followed us in. I explained my situation and dissatisfaction with the response up to this point. Besides a blank stare I got " I went to look myself and couldn't find it." I responded that I was not surprised since it is very difficult to locate unless you knew where it was and that was why I had asked someone to meet me at the location. At that point, the second gentleman who had walked in spoke up and said "I'll take you out there" I found out his name was Luis and he was from accounting. He grabbed a pool skimmer pole and we went to the site but the pole wasn't long enough. He got the maintenance manager, Jose on the radio, who came and immediately after seeing the situation went back to the shop to get a long pvc pipe with which he was able to dislodge the club. Luis took me in a cart back to my foursome so I could resume the round. I am very thankful for Luis and Jose who clearly understood what customer service was supposed to look like. They unfortunately were not the ones in the customer-facing positions at this course. In my mind those individuals' behavior can only be explained by them deciding I was a liar I had angrily thrown the club and that they weren't going to help. read more

I played last Monday with two of my friends. The golf course seem to be pretty clean. It was packed for Monday. Finished before the rain started again. Yay . I loved it great exercise. I haven't played in a while, but I'm back. Will be going back soon. Everybody was pleasant. read more

Always a difficult course. Greens were super fast. Fun times. Easy to walk, and they provide push carts if you want.

The counter staff at this course has always been arrogant and unaware of the golf way to behave. They especially have no respect for seniors or non-white people. Management is by HGA, who're just like airlines and their fees, greedily lining their pockets by squeezing and disrespecting their customers at every opportunity, whether it be 1/2 cart prices, rainchecks, drinks, cancellations, whatever. Management is the most unfriendly I have ever seen in 50 years of golfing. The course is in great shape though, and so was the cart girl last Tuesday. read more

Beware the RIP OFF! They charge your credit card if you don't meet their 24 hour cancellation policy. If it's pouring rain, or you have an emergency, or someone in your group has to cancel within 24 hours. I know of no other golf course that has this policy. They will charge you, basically for things that are out of your control. Don't play here! read more

The Golf Course is beautiful . This is one of the best courses in Houston. What I did NOT LIKE was the person at the register checking us in. He was a younger guy, looked like he was the Philippines or Pacific Islander. He stated that we couldn't have our own cart. I asked if there wasn't any way we could get our own cart. He said "NO,it's not possible. " He was very arrogant and would not offer us our own cart for any reason . I said ok . I expressed my dissatisfaction and disappointment. He did then offer an extra cart but for 4x times the amount of a regular cart fee. This guy made my Gus Wortham golf experience a BAD ONE. We are the customers , check your arrogance at the stop sign pulling in sir ! read more

TLDR version - a no raincheck policy. Don't waste your time going to the course if there is a threat of rain. I can only recommend this course if weather is perfect with no threat of rain. My foursome tried to play on a day with potential inclement weather. Our 7am tee time was pushed to 830 am due to lightning delay. We waited and teed off at 830 am. It was not raining at that time (Which is an important distinction). We played three holes and then the heavens opened up as we walked to the fourth tee box. Radar no longer looked favorable so we decided to head to the club house for a raincheck. The manager denied us a raincheck because we "knew the risk of rain" when we teed off at 830 am. He said nobody forced us to play golf. This was also communicated by the manager in a very combative manner. I've been playing golf for twenty years and not once has anybody ever forced me to play. I show up rain/shine and hot/cold because I want to play. My understating of a golf course is they need golfers to attempt to show up even if weather forecast doesn't look so great. A no raincheck policy is very shortsighted by the course and management. read more

One of my favorite courses to play and would be 4 or 5 stars, but they absolutely got it wrong with their new Priority Booking that allows access to book a tee time 8-10 days in advance for an additional nonrefundable upfront fee of $20 per person. Sounds great, and I can accept it being nonrefundable if I had made any changes or backed out of the tee time. But when the weather causes the course to be closed, then that fee should be refunded or placed as a credit. C'mon people, let's get this right. read more

Rainchecks In the case of inclement weather during a round, a rain check may be issued. The amount of the rain check will be a prorated amount based on the number of holes that have been played. Please note, a raincheck will not be given after Twilight begins Sunday, May 5, 2024 our foursome teed off with management's blessing. It was not raining. On the third hole, the skies opened up with heavy rain and lightening, so we returned to the pro shop to learn that we would be denied a rain check. So the policy must depend on the mood of management at the moment. Be aware and don't bother playing here if there is any chance of rain. They do no honor their own policy. There are plenty of courses in Houston that issue rain checks. read more

Nice park but the waters smell terrible! For the price not worth it If you are new to golf expect people there to be as*holes to you,do not recommend going with a twosome you will be put in teams which sucks when you are a starter trying to learn The starter came to me saying i was slowing it down but my group had kicked me off basically telling me to play by myself which i was okay with that but now i was stuck in the middle without a group and being rushed I did my best to keep positive and just play and learn on my own but also so many bad comments from the other guys who you can tell have been doing this their whole life Hermann Park is the way to go if you are new to this and wanting to learn,i did like the park as it is much closer to my house, i have about a month of playing once a twice a week now and will do my best to learn the game more and once im a bit more familiar with playing i will be coming back and give my honest review But this place is very intimidating for new people be aware! read more

Most miserable golf experience I've ever had. I've played 20+ courses in the Houston area and have never had such a terrible time. $55 during the week for aerated greens and fairways, basically concrete bunkers, & being attacked by hundreds of mosquitoes the whole time. It was impossible to focus or play any golf while being attacked by swarms of blood suckers. Couldn't take it anymore and left after 9 holes. Won't be going back. And would recommend the same to anymore else read more

The course is very nice and well kept greens, but not $50 plus worth, then have to put up with the crap attitude of the staff. $5.50 for a cold az hot dog. Now I know why I stop going about 6 years ago. I guess they don't have enough people complaining about it , so they feel as if they can get away with it. Not really happy with the level of service. A golf ball hit my car ! And now they can't do anything about it , the crack is so big and no one can fess up to It i felt like the guy brushed it off and didn't care at all they didn't even reach back to me . I had my kids in the car since it's renovated and since they have donated so much money they should put that to good use and add nets all around . read more

Buddy of mine's car was broken into in the middle of the day along with 3 others. Cameras in the parking lots don't face any of the cars and the staff didn't have the courtesy to come tell him his car was broken into. Let him play the rest of his round and he had to walk out to his car to find out this happened without a single word. That tells me the kind of staff they have. read more

Went here with wife and two children ages 11. & 14. It was overpriced cost $176 for all. We were warned that we were sowing up the course when actually the people before us held us up. We did skip a hole to create some space, the Marshall was very kind and helped my wife find her lost phone that is the only reason i gave it a... the bayou part was full of trash .., not a good value for the price read more

We were the last group of the day and the greens keeper literally followed 20 feet behind us on his golf cart and would pick up the flag when we got done with a hole. Talk about feeling rushed. Played Gus Wortham last week for the first time since the $7M renovation. It's a tremendous golf course with lots of natural elevation changes, which is rare for Houston. In addition, the course is in very good shape. It's not long at 6,400 yards from the back tees, but there are several long holes. And you are better off leaving the driver in the bag on several of the shorter holes. Overall, it was outrageously fun, and a great test of golf. The only negatives are lack of food, temporary shacks for the pro shop and scarcity of toilets. Best I can tell, there are two urinals and one men's toilet on the entire property. But water jugs are plentiful at nearly every hole. I'll be back, for sure. read more

Great layout after the remodel. Short but interesting layout with plenty of well placed bunkers protecting the greens. One of the few courses in Houston with natural elevation changes and blind shots. Bunkers are great, fairways are firm but in good shape. Greens need more play to be receptive as they are still quite hard. A few tee boxes and one green could use a bit of tlc. Will only get better with the additional facilities planned. read more

Recently played the course and was irritated that there were no restrooms available other than the portables at the temporary clubhouse. I was told the clubhouse was supposed to be completed at the end of 2019, yet there are no signs of progress. Also told the CEO doesn't properly keep the community informed and isn't in compliance with the city contract. read more

Don't expect amenities like you find at club or privately owned public courses, but they are doing a good job of keeping the fairways and greens well maintained. This is a fantastic course that can be ridden or walked. That statement alone earns it 6 stars. Most golf courses allow walkers, but with the layouts of courses in the suburbs or built between homes, is not realistic, without creating a backlog or just walking endlessly in the Houston weather. The site did the right thing by closing Glenbrook and creating nature center." This course is properly maintained and is a work in progress. Glad to see that rather than expend funds that aren't raised on clubhouses or other niceties, they are focusing on the infrastructure and things that a make a great experience like the course and driving range. By the way, you can still co tribute the the courses fundraising efforts. Regarding comments that state no water on the course, dining COVID-19, o courses have any water on the course. And if they do, you should report them because they are not looking out for your health. There are signs and you're informed of this, so please take some personal responsibility instead of blaming everyone else. The starters are funny, and remind you of the local rules before you begin your round and tell you the pin placement number. read more

Just recently reopened municipal course. Greens were great and course was definitely an enjoyable challenge for me. Giving only 4 stars as they didn't have hole layouts on scorecards or hole markers yet but I'm sure they will soon. Nearby street construction was a little annoying but won't be there forever. My GPS couldn't access the course but it has been submitted for satellite mapping. I walked but noticed the cart paths were new and the fairways were well done. What makes this unique from the other municipal local area courses are the hills and bayou cuts which provide both visual interest and make for an exciting ride at times at least for me. Very reasonable prices and overall excellent value. Played with a walk-on player who played it before it was closed and reopened who gave some color to the changes and upgrades. Apparently a lot of former green side mounds are now sand bunkers (something I became familiar with) along with just overall improvements. I'll definitely be back. Good work on bringing this course back !! read more
