Talk about small town charm with big city quality food. I'm in town for work and I was recommended this place by a state trooper who had to remind me of the speed limit on my way from Austin. The first morning I tried it out, I have been back everyday since. It starts with the staff. You enter and seat yourself and Bertha is with you almost immediately with a huge smile on her face and the softest sweetest voice. It's a small town and slower paced but the food arrives quickly. Now I'm not going to lie, this isn't a Michelin star restaurant and I actually prefer it that way out here. The quality and flavors are perfect, not exaggerated deconstructed nonsense. The food is made with love and the tortillas are made fresh in house. I'm pretty sure everything is made fresh and from scratch but the tortillas are for sure. The owner is usually in and has introduced himself and said hello starting the second time I've come in. If you're in the Big Bend area, specifically Presidio, stop in and say hello to Bertha and get some good food that isn't crazy expensive. I forgot to mention, they sell bagged ice if you're in need and they don't have bs single ply toilet paper in the restroom either. HUGE plus I'm my book. read more

Very worth it. Didn't know how a place out here had such a high rating with so many reviews. Starting with the greeting and the chips with salsa, I was understanding. Got the green sauce chicken enchiladas. Geez, perfect in every way. Most restaurants save their dried out chicken for the enchiladas, this place doesn't. Great place - very friendly staff who talked me off a Sammie into the chicken enchiladas verdes. Good call - it's my "test' dish and my favorite- can think of the great CEV that I have had and this was at of near the top. My bride had the chicken quesadillas and they were a notch above typical with veggies and a great portion. Giant glasses of tea - over the top staff - great food - easy parking. Stopped by here recently will showing family part of Texas they had never seen. Food and service were good. Space was nice, and the large table was perfect for our group. A note of caution though... they are selling counterfeit Yeti rambler cups that are engraved with the store's logo and an image of Texas with Presidio marked on it. I was excited to get a neat souvenir from my trip out to the Big Bend and was disappointed when I compared the Yeti I bought from them to the Yeti cups I already own. Side beside the differences are pretty obvious. I hope that they aren't intentionally selling counterfeit cups and were just unlucky to have sourced the cups from an unscrupulous vendor. read more

Perfect!!! When I checked into our motel and inquired about where to have breakfast the attendant without hesitation said the Bean. If the Bean Cafe were in my hometown, I would be a regular. It's that good on all levels. The establishment is clean and inviting. The food was excellent but most impressive was the staff. When my wife and I walked in for breakfast, there were just a couple tables open. We were immediately seated and given menus and our drink order taken. In 2-3 minutes our coffee and tea arrived and our food order taken. In less than 10 minutes our order arrived. As we ate the owner stopped at our table and inquired if everything was okay. Atmosphere: The atmosphere of "The Bean Cafe" was very comforting. Walking in I was able to feel the homely and nice vibes of the staff as well as the place itself. My friends and I were told to sit anywhere and were then greeted with fast and great service. Table Upon sitting down at the table, we had a waitress there in as less as a minute and this goes for both times that my friends and I were there. They quickly took our drink orders and came back very fast. The menu had a wide enough variety to satisfy everyone and more. We got there for breakfast the first time and ordered 2 Sparta Specials and some normal breakfast food. The food was amazing and the price was very low for the quality. They made the eggs perfectly as well as the pancakes and french toast, with I nice added bonus of bananas. As per lunch, the experience was just as amazing and wish there was a place like this in my hometown. Food The food of "The Bean Cafe" was absolutely amazing, for the price that the food was at. The Brad Burger that I ate myself especially was absolutely delicious and was pleasantly surprised to see that the onion rings as well were very tasty! All of my friends had no complaints either! This is a well camouflaged jewel. May not appear to be much but all the cars parked around the placE are a good indication that something good must be going on inside. Good indeed! This was our first time here as we had just crossed the border and were hungry. My parents and I stopped to eat lunch here. The restaurant is very nice. The place was not busy and yet they still took a long time with our meals. The food was simply okay. Nothing to great. We expected faster service being that there was hardly anyone at the restaurant at the time. Should we return to this area we will likely not be returning here. Other positive reviews led me here on a recent motorcycle ride, and I was not disappointed. The place is easy to find, and small but charming. The service is excellent, the food very enjoyable, and the prices very reasonable considering Presidio is a long way from almost everywhere. Had breakfast here: two eggs, beans, asado the puerco. If I remember correctly it's called the Sonia's Special. The meal was very enjoyable, with the asado made with small pieces of pork and very well balanced flavors. Oh, and the salsa is excellent! Just the right mix of flavor and spice. Think I finished off half the bottle with my breakfast. Did I mention home made corn tortillas? I'm from the other end of the Texas-Mexico Border (read: picky about border food), and this place is a winner, your textbook "gem way off the beaten path". After thoroughly enjoying my meal, I decided to finish sticking the fork into my diet and wrapped up my excellent breakfast experience with some hot chocolate. It was served with a great presentation, and tasted even better than it looked. I wholeheartedly recommend this place, and I look forward to coming back here again on my next West Texas ride. If you need an excuse to go all the way to Presidio, take a drive/ride down 170 to/from Big Bend. It is one of the most enjoyable roads in Texas, in my humble opinion at least. One more observation about the Bean: I was impressed how many regulars were there (who were always greated by name and with a smile), and how many of them ordered "the usual". Folks keep coming back here again and again for two simple reasons: great food and great service. read more

Great service, very polite and pleasant servers. Owner went to extreme measures to accommodate us. Menu had a very wide variety of different meals. Place was pretty full since it was right around lunch time. We placed our appetisers and our drinks. We got them pretty quick and we were checked on efficiently and timely. Placed our orders and within 25 minutes received them. Place was immaculate and the bathrooms were very clean and well stocked. Best place we have been in quite a while. We recently visited Presidio. When time came for lunch, I insisted we find someplace to eat that would be unlike the frenetic, franchised chain restaurants that we always settle for back home in metro Houston. We found The Bean Restaurant. It is a little, hole-in-the wall, one-of-a-kind restaurant. Their food all comes across as home-cooked and is very good. It was a memorably good meal for all of us (9-year old twins included). In addition to the good food, friendly service and ambience, our waitress was too cute for words - she was all smiles and sunshine. Don't mess with her though, I think her daddy owns the restaurant!
