Me and the cave women stumbled on this place while on a road trip to Vermont. Great beer, great people, and vibes. Try the IPAs. Not to be missed.

Great local farm brewery. Matt introduced us to the dogs and welcomed our two! Nice intimate sitting area inside but it looked like outside was the place to be. Live music on Saturday night starting Jan 19th he told us ..... Had a great flight and I sampled the Gruit Ale. Personal pizzas, a cheese and sasuage platter. Local! Fresh! Fun! Best of all DOG FRIENDLY to well behaved pups! Stop by and say hello .... And don't forget your growler!

What a surprisingly wonderful treat the Beer Diviner was! We made the trek out to this brewery to get our CCBT passport stamp and found a small, cozy brewery and there was thankfully enough seating for all four of us on a quiet Saturday morning shortly after opening (there's additional seating outside, but it's getting cold out, guys). Also a brewery dog. If it wasn't already a five star brewery, the dog would have gotten that last star. We ordered a few flights ($8 for flights of 4) and were able to try everything; all of the beer was very good. There's an interesting hemp beer, made with local hemp, and solid offerings across the board. I wish it were a little later in the day, as the sourdough pizzas they had on the menu all sounded wonderful. Great service, great beer...I just wish they were a bit closer to Albany!

    Outdoor fireplace

We stopped by the Beer Diviner recently and were so impressed by their outdoor seating! They had 5-6 outdoor fireplaces, some plastic sheeting walls to reduce the wind, and plenty of space. I really enjoyed my porter, but enjoyed speaking to the owner, John, about his background and career as a brewer more. He was very friendly, as were the other customers we met. A perfect winter spot for people who don't want to dine/drink indoors during the pandemic but will appreciate the fireplaces for warmth!

Before I give you my quick review for the Beer Diviner, be advised that the address attached to this listing (15950 NY Rt.22, Stephentown, NY 12168) is not accurate. As of this writing (2/18/16), the address has not been changed. The actual address of the Beer Diviner Taproom is: 243 Bly Hollow Rd, Petersburg, NY 12040. The Beer Diviner Taproom is roughly an hour from downtown Albany and is certainly worth the drive. During our visit, we sampled the porter, stout, pale ale, IPA, and red ale. Each of the brews brought something a bit different to the table and the most notable was the Ancestral Red Ale. The Red was aromatic and flavorful with obvious notes of ginger and orange peel. As a person that doesn't love flavored beers, the Ancestral Red managed to strike the perfect balance. A flight of beer, with a few additional refills, and a sampling glass came to about $20. The Beer Diviner accepts cash and credit. The Taproom itself is a bit difficult to find, as there were no visible signs outside. This made for a bit of a frustrating journey, but the reward was so sweet. The owner, Jonathan, is a fantastic guy. He was personable and accommodating. His journey into brewing is an interesting one and worth asking about. I look forward to my next visit in the summer months, when the taproom will expand seating to an outdoor deck.

"Let me show you the meaning of life....it all began with brewing....the mash...the boil...the beer!" - Jonathan Post aka The Beer Diviner. It's cold in Albany this 2013. Terribly cold? No - it's annoyingly cold, and annoyingly boring to boot! So how does one survive this miserable ambiance, mediocre existence , with continuous heartburn in old gray Smallbany, especially when they know that the National Grid bill will prevent them from going to Trader Joe's for a while and force them to hit Family Dollar. With the loss of Ravens Head brewery opening in Ten Broeck and future of a purported real Jew Deli on Western Avenue not opening until July ....Just how do you survive this existence? Really, a continuous enema given by Rick Santorum would be more pleasurable than the winter here! I confess I survive, and survive well, the only way I know how...by helping my liver along just a little closer toward the river Styx. Nevertheless in the beginning of this grey 2013, I ran across a tap in a local bar with a shamans mask on it. God I thought, this must be something awful that Magic Hat has made, but no...my presumed reservations were wrong....it was a pint of, spoken by the ever so friendly and solicitous burly bartender at the Excelsior Pub in Center Square .... "Oh that...that's a Ancestral Red Ale...by the Beer Diviner, this guy out in the woods..." I sipped my pint...my heart fluttered...my nipples quivered perplexed I was thought, "Who is this creature? I MUST FIND HIM!" After telephoning the Beer Diviner himself, my beau, my hound and my tired body trekked out to Cherry Plain NY, a 30 minute ride out of Albany on NY 43... in search of the Bly Hollow Brewery on Bly Hollow Road. Up the dirt road we came upon a log cabin..." That's gotta be it!" "Oh you guys where one who called this morning.." We walked in... A truly one man operation, the Beer Diviner gave us the tour, poured us two flights of beer...twice, and told us the story of his existence. Two hours later, I felt the need to bring back a growler of Ancient Gruit Ale (a mere 14 Bucks)! Throw in a bottle of Ancestral Red Ale for another 5, and you'll soon forget about that drive home on 43. And gentlemen, do you have a problem with hops affecting your desire of pleasuring your lady or man ? No worries here, the Beer Diviner was thinking about you. No need to run off to drop a hundred bucks to see Dr. Viagra. Try the Ancient Gruit Ale, brewed with foraged wormwood and local organic honey. It will want to make you ride your partner faster than Django rode outta town after shooting Big Daddy! Every once in a while here in upstate New York, there is that fellow who you meet, that reminds you that not all of the Capitol District has fallen into the cradle of dis-civilization and their might be a glimmer of hope. That fellow, one who has inspired an new DIY ethic in me, that fellow is the Beer Diviner. Hail Cesar! Brew it, and they will come......( Please remember to call the Beer Diviner ahead of your visit to make sure he is available.)

Brewer serving up a cold one

Stopped in at the Beer Diviner on the way up to Vermont. Had seen the hand maxes signs on Rt 22 over the years and finally stopped. Glad I did! Neat place, nice chat with the head brewer, and excellent beers. Love the H'Ale Odin Viking Ale, I'll be back

I couldn't check in here, service was shotty. Depending on where you live (for pretty much most people) this is pretty far out. Not only distance but also it's literally just driving from one back road to another. It was a lot. With all the dramatics being taken out of the way let me get to the good stuff. This was my first time at this bar/in this area etc. And it honestly felt like this was my hometown bar. I felt so welcomed, everyone was friendly and welcoming and honestly (and surprisingly) this place got pretty packed. This entire place felt like a big conversation. Everyone spoke to everyone else and there was just a lot of camaraderie! This place also sold eggs and cheese, which obviously I thought was pretty weird because 1. Where are the grocery stores & 2. What other local bar also sells groceries?! Nonetheless, I bought the eggs. Call me a townie if you want. These eggs are called "drunken eggs" because the chickens on the land (again this is in the middle of nowhere) eat the grain that is produced from the beer they make in house. I havent tried them yet but let me tell you I'm pumped. They also serve sourdough pizza from a local place, we had the honey bbq and gouda and it wasnt too bad. There was also a side menu that said they have hotdogs, cheeseburgers, hamburgers and water. Guys you all have to go to this place, it was the most random experience in life and I didnt hate it. Now let me tell you some more of the best things. They have a beautiful dog who is so friendly and loves belly rubs, give him one. The top of the toilet is a dental water machine? Guys it's easier to see than to explain, go to the bathroom. Last but not least, the owner John is phenomenal. He's a dr., got invited to Africa which led him on this beer diviner journey (ask him the story) and is currently writing a book. He also had the ability to brew beer and cook pizza, hotdogs, burgers and cheeseburgers. I liked this place. If it was closer I would for sure be considered a townie. Go, have fun and put some time aside because it takes a while to get here. On the way up we also saw a sign for a state park and heard great reviews

Flight of four and growlers to go!

Traveling between VT and NY, saw the sign, had to stop! A ways back off the road, so trust the signs and keep going. Great company inside and tasty brews! Will definitely be back on our next trip!

Great variety of beer. Very interesting styles.
