The decor leaves much to be desired, then again, It is a deli inside a convenience store. Never had the expectation of finding a very well designed table linen establishment. The food is decent. I have only had to stop few times after much drunken stupor at Palmer's Bar or after a show at the Cedar Cultural Center. The Sambusas are good. The Gyros and Falafels are okay. They also have frozen burgers on the menu. This neighborhood like some of the others in the city has a reputation for being "Sketchy" and It has all to do with the fact that most of these residents are Africans or Native Americans. You know, the kinda people that look nothing like the residents of Milaca, Minnesota or the rest of the state. And of course what is fueling this perception more is having those scary kids in the neighborhood with the complicated finger gestures, the ones with the saggy pants to their ankles showing off their Gangsta Scooby-Doo and Ned Flanders underwear themed when they lean over the counter to order. Yes, those sketchy kids. Tip: Order what you want at the Deli. They will give you the receipt to pay at the grocery checkout.

They're open pretty late, so if you're out drinking in the Cedar-Riverside area, this is the place to go for gatorade and cigarettes. They also sell homemade Somali treats like sambusa, which are like samosa or empanadas. Spicy, beef-filled balls of goodness. My friend Joe bought one for two bucks and was like "This is the best thing ever!" He ate the whole thing, too, which was kind of awesome since we had been eating all evening (pizza at Punch's, pierogies at Kramarczuk's, hummus platter at Arcadia's). Overall, a decent convenient store with friendly staff and interesting home-made goods.

Located in the Northeast neighborhood of Minneapolis, Surdyk's Liquor and Cheese is an institution,…read morestarted as a liquor and grocery store in 1934, moving to this location in 1979. Now run by third-generation owners, it expanded to retailing fine wine and cheeses as well. I stopped in to buy some house gifts, and was pleasantly surprised by its very large selection of products, displayed in a way that it was enjoyable to do some 'window shopping'. In my case, I focused on the whiskey's and found what I was hoping for (from the Nikka distillery, a place I had visited a long time ago). But surprisingly it carried American made whiskey (in this case, from the Seattle area) for a price that was lower than what I had paid when actually visiting the distillery itself. I took the time to walk around a bit, noticing that they had an entire section devoted to just German and Austria wines. (Would have been shocked to find wines from Luxembourg, which is on my list). There were also a large beer refrigerated room, as big as any I've seen at big retailers. Of course, it had the beers from the Midwest that are hard to find where I live now (Leinenkugel, Hamm's, and Zywiec). Also noticed a small display of cigars, protected behind locked glass. Ended up getting two Westland Single Malt 750ml for $56.99 each. Checkout was identical to any large liquor store chain (like a grocery store checkout with employees who do checkout and are not really knowledgeable about the products sold).

I've held off on writing this review because I wanted to make sure that I put the right words to the story Spoon and Stable helped me build for my ten year wedding anniversary. My husband and I like to do quirky celebrations, and for ten years of marriage I wanted to celebrate it and spend time being intentional about the growth and love we've shared for this decade of life together. To say Spoon and Stable hit it out of the park is an understatement. We got a space near the kitchen to watch the chefs make the magic happen, and EACH dish was simply incredible. I have never in my life had an eyes closed "MMMMMM" moment, but I had multiple moments of wow all starting with drinks at the bar and ending with a perfect desert that we took with us. Don't skip the oysters, don't skip the extras, don't skip the witty banter with your service staff, DON'T SKIP OUT ON THIS PLACE. It is absolutely worth every single penny.

Everytime I've tried something here, I get a stomach ache for couple days, especially their old tasting desserts. 1st time stomach I thought it was just a fluke. Third try & 3 stomach aches later from the same place here & you're out of my books lol. Never again, No clue how this place has any business. I'm so glad more places have opened up in NL. Especially the Bellecour restaurant, the desserts there are 1000x better than the days tasting old crap that is served here at SnS. The interior is gorgeous, however, the entire establishment is a 0/10. I would not recommend this place to anyone. What an embarrassment this place is serving bad food to patrons. I recommend spending money at Porzana, Bar La Grassa, Bellecour... anywhere but here. This place is a joke for food. So embarrassing!

I was a little confused at first because the place still has signage or references from its previous name, but it all worked out just fine. As soon as you walk in, you're immediately hit with the amazing smell of garlic (I think the owner was roasting it that day--heavenly). My friend and I took our time browsing all the different olive oils and goodies. The shop has a really nice balance--part store, part cozy café. We ended up chatting with the owner for a bit, and she was welcoming. Overall, it was a really pleasant experience. We ordered the tomato mozzarella panini and a coffee each. I'll be honest--a tomato mozz sandwich wouldn't normally be my go-to, but it was surprisingly flavorful, light, and still filling (half was enough for me). Everything we had was delicious. There's seating inside.... tables and even a comfy couch--giving it that laid-back, neighborhood vibe. Also appreciated that there's a parking lot, which made things easy. If I'm in the area again and need olive oil (or just a chill spot for a coffee and bite), I'd absolutely stop in again!

The whole place gave off relaxed European vibes, and the staff couldn't have been friendlier. I'll definitely be back.
