I came to the store to get a tire changed. The staff seemed knowledgeable. The store had a large selection of parts, tools, and other miscellaneous equipment. I asked if they could use my current tube, which was not damaged, in the new tire. They said they had to use their own tube in the new tire which is very fair. The new tube even comes included in the labor cost of changing the tire. However, I wish they asked me if I wanted my old tube back before discarding it, as many bike shops do. I can excuse this if the tube was punctured, but it wasn't. I could have used that as a spare tube or something. Tubes are around $10 so not a huge deal but that would've been nice. I also wished they asked me if I preferred a certain tire pressure before inflating my tire to an arbitrary PSI. Sure, some people don't have a preferred pressure, but it doesn't hurt to ask. Especially if someone is purchasing a $100+ tire. Again, not a huge deal as I can just change it at home but would've been nice. Overall, still a good experience. read more

Super quick and easy servicing of my bike this afternoon. I called to see if I needed an appointment for a flat tire. I was told that that was unnecessary and to just drop in. as soon as I arrived I wheeled my bike to the repair shop area. Sarah assessed the bike and started working on the rear tire right away. She ended up replacing the intertube and the intertube lining. The total cost was $17. At this shop they have a lot of accessories, helmets, baskets for your bike. They also had paddings for your bike and other parts to include security measures. Super neat looking messenger bikes and other mountain bikes and beach cruisers for sale at this shop. I was suggest you come take a look if you're in the market for a new bike. Very happy with my experience at this shop. Good to know they are right next to Pilot Brewing. So you could always drop your bike off and grab a brew or kobucha while they're working on your bike. I have another bike that needs a little touch up. I will definitely be bringing it back for Sarah to take a look. read more

This place is great! They have the friendliest people working here who are incredibly knowledgeable about so many different aspects of all types of bikes. Everytime I come in, they take the time to talk me through what the issue I'm having is and how I can avoid it in the future, or little tips on how I can fix it myself. My bike is a hand me down from a family friend and I had no idea when it last got some love (aka a tune up). So when the weather got nice enough I took my bike to the Bike Lane for a tune-up. They quoted a base price of $65 and gave a week and a half turnaround. After parts it was about $115 which was about what I expected. Overal I'm very satisfied with my experience with them. They were clear with what I could expect out of the tune up and they take covid seriously. You do all the chatting outside the shop with masks on. And my bike was finished on time (!!!) and it rides so much better. I feel so much safer on my bike knowing it's been checked over and had the necessary worn parts replaced. So many good things to say about this place. I came in one day when my back brake was hitting my tire and they fixed it in 5 seconds for free. They also will let you fill up your tires for free. I can in again today with a flat back tire and they fixed it within 5 minutes and it only cost $10! They also checked my front tire and put air in that as well. 5/5 would recommend this place to anyone for any bike needs!! read more

I stopped in with my bike, creaky from disuse. They do FCFS and no one was ahead of me so they took my bike back that instant. The mechanic checked the rims and tires, filled up the tires, puked the chain, lowered the seat and made sure everything was tight. $5!!!! And they were so helpful and friendly. I bought a bike from here about 2 years ago, the salesperson was very helpful without being pushy. When I broke the front brake recently I decided to bring it back to get fixed. I was able to bring it in the same day I called with no issues. The bike was ready a day earlier than estimated and the brake is working perfectly. The staff is all very friendly and knowledgeable. It was near closing time, but Michael helped me within five minutes and was super nice and didn't make me feel like a dummy like bike shops can tend to. Adjusted my brakes, which were causing the issue and turned the fork around on my front tire since I had put it together wrong without even knowing it. I will return here whenever I have issues. I came into The Bike Lane a few weeks ago on a Sunday after getting a flat on my Yuba cargo bike. I was so glad they were open because it was late afternoon and I had my two toddlers as cargo. Getting my huge bike in and out the door of the shop was a chore, but a kind staff member helped me. They weren't busy so the mechanic was able to help us right away. They were super gracious about my five-year-old hovering around the mechanic while working on the bike and just running amok in general. They got me in and out in no more than 10 minutes. I've needed the Bike Lane twice in the past two years, and most recently they went above and beyond. I went in to replace a broken chain tensioner. They followed COVID protocol, and I left my bike there for later pickup, I told them 4 hours I'll be back. Well my appointment ended early so I called them and said 2 hours, and they said it was already done. Perfect, what's more is that they also cleaned my chain and sprockets that were previously making noise to the point I thought about just asking for a tune. Not necessary, my bike is riding smooth and quiet like the first day I got her. Fair price, good service. Highly recommend. read more

Where oh where to begin. I had the extreme pleasure of dealing with not only Max but John as well. These dudes rule. I am one of those pain in the ass customers who has an image in their head and knows exactly how it's NOT supposed to look. I feel like any time I go somewhere the people hate their life after talking with me. I explained what I wanted. I had a feeling that Max was absolutely shaking his head and rolling his eyes on how much of a pain in the ass I was being. I basically bought an entire bike, took all the parts, had them powder coated, and brought the parts back to have this BEAST assembled. A few weeks go by and low and behold the bike is ready for assembly. I drop off all the parts and anxiously await for the call. Max and John took some liberty and changed some things. Normally I'd be a little upset but their eye and my parts came together is perfect unison. I love this bike. I love riding it. Even more I love LOOKING at it. It's perfect. The parts they picked all worked together perfectly. These dudes know what they are doing. Trust them. Seriously. That's how you work best with artists. These dudes are artists. Been into The Bike Lane a few times now and had a great experience each time. The first time I went in, I was having some trouble changing my handle bars to a riser and the shop was able to help me out in very short order. As I recall, he even greased up the chain and sprockets because he saw it needed it badly (1980's Fuji road bike). Shame on me for not getting the name of the mechanic that helped out, but it was five star service. The second time I came in was because I managed to rip the rivets out of the liner on my brand new Bern helmet trying to change it out. The shop gave me a new liner and installed it no questions asked. I've been to a couple other bike shops in the area (that shall remain nameless) and have always felt like me being in there was more of a burden to the crew than they were willing to deal with. The Bike Lane is by far the best bike shop in Logan Square, possibly even the city of Chicago, and I will certainly continue to bring any bike related business I have to them. Funny...when I gave them my bike, my fender wasn't broken. When I got it back, it was. They were quick to assure me that "they didn't do it." "There was no way they could have done that," in fact. Odd...just happend to be the wheel they were working on. And it wasn't broken when I handed it to the guys. But when I pointed it out, It was my problem, not their's. They just let me ride out the door with a cracked fender, rubbing on the tire, with a broken, jagged metal support hanging off the side. Excellent customer service and attention to detail guys. Didn't even offer to help fix it. read more

This place is amazing. My husband and I recently bought new bikes here and the staff was so helpful to make sure we got exactly what we needed. Every time I've come in since then, they remember me and are friendly and welcoming. I also had to take my bike in here after a crash- I knew something was wrong but it turned out my frame was bent. I left it with them overnight, and when I went to go pick it up it was good as new and there was no charge! They said the fixes were covered as part of my 30 day tune up, which I hadn't yet used even though it had been about 3 months. I was blown away- I thought the fix would be a few hundred bucks. They know their stuff here and do a fantastic job with repairs. I recommend this place for all your biking needs! read more

I am a super tiny person. Like, 5'2" on a tall day, tiny. I also happen to have a deep affection for tiny, vintage Fuji bikes. Unfortunately, these are a total pain in the balls to find, which means I spend entirely too much time combing craigslist. Do you have any idea how many weirdos put pictures of their wieners in with bike ads? Lots. The answer is lots. Anyhow. I finally found one and I had it shipped to me from fucking Memphis and it took forever and the problem with this bike, apart from a crappy brake system and an awful saddle and a dumpy stem - was the fact that it was a super specialized tiny tiny frame and wouldn't fit normal sized wheels. So I took my tiny tiny new bike over to The Bike Lane to talk about a custom wheel set to replace the gigantic touring wheels/tires that came with the bike and added something like 15 lbs to its overall mass. The guys there were quick to help and answered all my dumb questions and placed my order in like, 20 minutes. The new wheels were ready in about a week and they're perfect. I had a fantastic experience and would recommend the crap out of this place to everyone. read more

This place has only been open for a few short months, but I find great joy in their service. No. Seriously. I do. My friend & I rode up with her much needed tuned up bike. She was going to get the works. New tires, new gears, brake pads, and a tune up. And her total was only $55.00! Can you believe that? Everyone that lives on the Northwest side should start coming here. One of the mechanics Max was great. Very friendly staff. They also told us about their service that if you are on the road & get a flat...THEY RIDE TO YOU & FIX IT! Everyone that bikes should put their business phone number in their cell phone. Closest but sadly also the worst bike shop. I first went there to have a flat fixed, told them there was a small puncture. They were done pretty quick while I looked around the shop BUT as I found out the next day they didn't replace or try to fix the puncture, instead they just put air in it and with in two days it was completely flat again. Plus they charged me $10 just to put air in one tire!!! I went back and then I guess they actually felt like doing what their paid to do and did put on a new tube. I left my bike there over the weekend for a tune up, a new chain, and new brake pads. Today I got a call saying they just looked at my bike and since it is an older bike giving it a tune up and replacing the brake pads & chain is just a waste of their time. REALLY!?! The bike is from the 70s but it is still a quality and reliable road bike with a lot of new parts, that I've been riding for the past three years. The staff here is either to incompetent to fix anything that doesn't still have an instruction manual, to lazy to do anything useful, or are just trying to up sell me on buying a new bike from them. I wish I still lived close to Irv's Bike Shop in Pilsen where they hire people who actually know something about bikes to fix bikes. read more

This is a tragic story to be honest. There are two parts to it and I will be honest. Overall I want Bike Lane to succeed and I know they will. Bike Lane is the exact reason you don't want a Groupon. Though I understand the benefit to a seasonal business, they sold nearly a thousand half-price tune ups. I decided to take our two bikes there. I should've been a little more dilligent in my research. My "fun" bike hadn't been ridden in a while so a slight cleaning was all it needed. My partner's bike had all sorts of things going on. I happily listed them all and said please charge me accordingly. One week later, the bikes were ready as promised. I put them in the car (since were in a hurry that day), drove them home and didn't think twice. Two weeks later, under the assumption all the quibbles with her bike were sorted, we headed out. Not even down the block and it was obvious they didn't fix anything. Turns out the rear wheel was so far out of true it needed to be replaced. The axle was not well secured so it too needed to be replaced. These items would've been apparent had they road tested the bike as promised. My wife drops the bike off to them, reads them the riot act, and they make repairs. We pick up the bike again. With a true wheel, we test it out in the sidelot. Same problem. They didn't replace the axle and it was clear they didn't test drive the bike. We returned twice to finally have the axle replaced -- which they did with good humor and for free. So... That's my story. I think had it not been for the Groupon experience, these things would've been small enough to overlook. But it puts a cloud over them. For now at least. I will continue to go there because they are good folks. Really. They are truly set up for urban bikes and accessories in a way no other shop is doing. And they have a great attitude: none of that elitest snobbery. I am looking forward to updating my stars on this one. read more

Speechless at the above and beyond service I received last night from here. I was cruisin the boulevard, ridin my bike, relaxin with my thoughts when all of a sudden: BAM!: flat tire. I felt stranded. No patch kit, no nothing. It was already almost 9 pm and bike stores would be closed at that time. I knew this place was close by and was hoping on a wing and a prayer, that they might still be open. Well, lo and behold: the lights were still on and there were people there. YES! A quick knock on the door and I was greeted by John who let me in, even though they had been closed for almost an hour, and replaced it real quick like, all for 10 bucks. Maybe I was lucky because he was hanging out having a few beers after work, who knows. I will definitely be bringing my bike here for all services, even though I live in Avondale. Plus, I was told their tune ups were the cheapest in the city: 55 bones. I recommend to all. read more

I kept getting a flat in my front tire. It was a slow leak, I guess and even when I put in air a few days later it would be dead. I felt like a complete idiot. I know little to nothing about bikes, so basically I thought I needed all new tires. The bike I have is from the 70's and so I thought: "OH well, here goes a whole set of tires." The guys at The Bike Lane fixed my tube and told me my tires had a lot of life left in them. Even though I was fully prepared to buy new tires, they didn't even try and sell them to me. I would have dropped a whole bunch of money if they told me to, and they were nice enough to tell me I didn't have to. For some reason that rubbed me the right way. 10 dollars later and a new tube, it seems my bike tire might just be fixed. If not, I know the guys at Bike Lane will fix it and they won't make me feel stupid for not knowing what is wrong.. and not make me feel bad for not being a "bike person". The dudes here have the beginnings of a great shop without the pretension that sometimes permeates more formal shops - I am looking at you Durst Cycle of Champaign IL. After getting doored my bike needed some work and they were super helpful in giving me a fair appraisal of what needed to be done and at a reasonable price. I ended up paying in cash but Max assured me that their credit card machine was in the mail. It should be up and running now. Most days they are open 8 to 8 which is really great for people who want to stop by either on the way down Milwaukee going to work or coming back home after a long day. I too like Lauren G want to see these guys succeed. Before heading in check out their website (bikelanechicago.com/) because they may still be running some good specials like buy one tuneup get one half off. All-in-all I've had good experiences with Chicago bike shops, though I've heard complaints in price, quality of work done, and employee attitude from some bike shops. However, my experience with The Bike Lane, along with my friends' experiences, have been nothing but positive. They don't carry a whole lot as far as bike accessories, but what they carry is quality. My favorite part--I was able to walk in, get my wheel trued, and walk out minus $15 and about ten minutes. Not bad! read more
