I've usually had decently-priced, good and (if they are not overbooked) quick service here. I do appreciate that they are willing to do emergency or next-day-of repairs, as some other Southtown shops are less accomodating and require onerous wait times. They also take pride in their work: I got a flat changed at no charge one time when I got one right after they looked at my bike. I encourage the uppity gentrifiers who take umbrage with the mechanic's indeed fairly gruff attitude to take a chill pill. This is Chicago, we all got places to be. read more

This shop is a hidden gem in South Loop. My bike chain seized up on me and thankfully I remembered this bike shop a few blocks from my apartment. I was expecting to drop the bike off for a pickup later in the week but the owner helped me out and had my bike better than new in about 45 minutes. The prices were extremely reasonable as well. I stopped by a couple times before for spare parts, this time I needed a new helmet. They had a small and decent selection which I waited in line first to make sure they didn't mind if I just started trying things on (only polite to do in COVID times) but they didn't mind. It's an interestingly chaotic place with piles of stuff everywhere and some disarray but that seems to reflect the spirit of their business. read more

This seems like a good bike shop. I'm no biking enthusiast like the ones going up and down the bike path in what can only be described as a scuba suit paired with a long helmet that can double as your Halloween costume for Alien. Good luck finding a Sigourney weaver though. I'm just the casual biker with a old ass big box store bike. When I got my bike years ago, I found this shop and got an adjustment here. Carmichael has helped me numerous times and I secretly hope I get him everytime. He isn't talkative but neither am I which I appreciate as an introvert. He seems like an expert tho and did compliment my tshirt. I happen to have two of those tshirts in fact (a spare) so he does have good taste. I first visited this shop when he had that big chill dog. I miss the dog. He or she came up to greet me by licking my tire. Disgusting but hilarious. I honestly don't take care of my bike so I've only been back every few years. Sadly the dog passed and he got a giant fish. I'm sure his customers all asked about the dog, myself included and didn't mean to open up wounds. The giant fish is gone today and only a small pleco lives in the big tank. The store has definitely gotten more crowded overtime. Prices are fair, not dirt cheap but the shop is close and I've never had issues so I'll definitely continue to visit...every few years. My bike has rusted too and I didn't get any judgement. read more

Very happy with this shop. I just moved to the area and needed my bike checked out, air in my tires, and it needed a good cleaning as it had previously been in a storage unit. It only cost $35! Carmichael was great and went out of his way to help me look for a bike rack to fit my SUV. I really appreciated his service and the fact that my bike was ready within 2 days. read more

I wouldn't recommend coming here, I had a terrible experience and I witnessed another unsatisfied customer in front of me. I wanted my brakes to be looked at it as they had become worn down, but when I went to pick it up after service, my brakes were actually worse! I almost fell from my bike on the way home because of the brakes not working properly as they should. read more

TLDR: Shop not practicing social distancing or any COVID-protection measures. My low rating is entirely due to the customer service and lack of regard for social distancing, it is not a comment on the mechanic's technical skills (which I cannot speak to). I came in to buy a new inner tube and the place was quite crowded. The mechanics were not wearing masks and were not asking customers to, either. The mechanics were moving in and around the crowded space without any regard for social distancing and in fact brushed against me several times. They disregarded my attempts to create distance between us. The service was extremely slow (I had finally reached the front of the line and had handed over my credit card when the employee started chatting with the other mechanic), and this felt particularly frustrating because it meant more time in the poorly ventilated, crowded space. I wish this shop would take social distancing seriously, as it would require minimal effort. Overall, the mechanics' behavior indicated a lack of regard for the risk of COVID, which to me represents a lack of regard for fellow humans (especially highly vulnerable ones). I personally prefer to give my money to businesses that show social responsibility. read more

I want to give a negative rating. They are very selective about who gets good service. I did not rate good service. An older guy fixed the flat, then blew the tire with too much air. He charged for both fixing the flat and the new inner tube. I sucked it up, paid and knew never again. They suck to low hell!!! read more

I have a tubeless system for my mountain bike and brought it in for them to put new sealant in. When I stopped I was stuck in line in a very narrow walk way inside the store. It took about 45 minutes before I was up to the front and the walk way was so small people were constantly running into each other. I get up to the front and the guy asks what I need. I say to have new sealant put in. Bike has been sitting for awhile and I know the back tire is leaking. He tells me he would have to keep the bike overnight. I said fine. He then takes my bike and sticks on the stand to just say. You don't need new sealant. It's fine. Just put in some air and you're good. What. No. I haven't ridden in awhile and I know that it needs service. I'm happy to pay and get done. It was obvious he didn't want to do the job. Sure enough. A week later my tire is flat. Thanks for nothing. Waste of my time. If you don't actually want to work on bikes then don't be in the business. Brought in because close to my house. I'll gladly drive to another shop that actually does work. read more

I am an avid cyclist. I also do a lot of mechanical work myself. When I don't have the tool I support local bike shops I called ahead of time asking for cost for headset install on my bike and fork cut down and a few spacers. Was quoted $20-$25 (reasonable) Dropped off my bike that day Just picked up my bike, the very next day. $38 to install a headset, cut a steer tube, install a star plug and 2 alloy spacers ABSOLUTE RIP OFF and dishonest. I recommend going elsewhere. read more

Okay I know it takes a few minutes to get helped at this place, sometimes the sales guys /slash/ bike technicians /slash/ whatever they are take a little longer to get to you because they are busy with another customer, or they're fixing something, or they are staring at the ceiling. Listen, the place is like a nutty inventor's garage, run by his crazy kids. They don't always have what you want, and they don't get things done exactly when they say they wiil, but it's a place owned and run by people. They get to know you, they like you, they help. They have a pretty broad assortment of bikes, priced pretty high. I bought a bike on the street for a hundred bucks... they fixed it up, made it great for a hundred dollars. I like them. I had to add this business to Yelp... My wife and I were at Navy Pier for the Air Show, when all of a sudden the tire on my wheelchair blew. Completely non-mobile, I searched my iPhone for the nearest bike shop and got Cycle Bike Shop Inc. I called and spoke with Britt (really nice). I explained my situation and she biked all the way to Navy Pier to fix it. Britt really new what she was doing, had me mobile in minutes! My day could have been a disaster, but Cycle Bike totally came through for me. I only wish I would have tipped Britt more after finding out how far she biked. Great business! read more

This is why I love Yelp. I would have probably never given this place a chance had I not looked it up on Yelp before hand. The service was great from the moment I walked in the door. The dog is awesome, someone said his name was "lazy", (hahahaha) but I'm a dog person so that might just be me. They let me take my bike on a test drive before I purchased it, and they were very informative and patient with me. I'm a bigger guy so I had researched my bikes ahead of time and I know what I wanted and needed. They were very polite and even did a seat switch for me. As I checked out they also gave me information in regards to registering my bike and the information needed if it ever gets stolen. I also got a 30 day tune-up/check up included with my bike. I couldn't be more pleased with the service I received. read more

Found this place on my phone when I got a flat tire by Museum Campus. This or Trek. I wasn't going to Trek with my single speed le tour. Came to their building. Saw a chain link fence inside the window and knew it will be a great place (or a really bad place). Turned out to be the former. Got my tire fixed for $12 (labor and tube). The guy was really helpful and informative. Gave me tips on how to maintain the brake lines from getting to oxidized. Would definitely check this place out again. Knowledgeable people, reasonably priced, chilled out dog. The only minus would be that it seems they don't have too much choices on their parts (just looking at stuff on display, but I wasn't in the market for anything so I can't comment on their variety of items). read more

This is my favorite bike shop in Chicago and I have been to a lot of them. The staff is friendly and non-pretentious (SOO hard to find in this bikey city). I haven't gotten anything done here but had flat tires fixed- but their prices are low and the customer service is amazing. They also have some good-looking used and new bikes. I work nearby and had been going to Trek (11th and Michigan) when I would have a bike issue near work- they charged me $19 to change my tube (including a $2 fee to take my wheel off my bike- ANYONE CAN TAKE A WHEEL OFF A BIKE!) It is so sad to me that the shiny, sterile, pretentious Trek store is right up the street and always seems to have people there wasting their money. Cycle is down the street -where you could spend a fraction of the price and leave feeling like you've given your money to a good business. Chicago has so many bike shops- and if you don't need something brand-specific, all of these shops can give you what you need. The only things that separate one shop from the next are prices and customer service- Cycle wins in both of these categories- I will be back again and again and tell my friends and coworkers to go. My wife and I live 2 blocks from this place. We've been there a total of three times for various reasons (mostly repairs but also just to buy different parts). We've been greeted warmly and treated fairly every single time. The prices are extremely reasonable, and the service is top-notch. We've always been impressed with a place when the owner is present and seems genuinely interested in whatever they are selling. We will definitely be back for all of our bicycle needs and would recommend it to all of our South Loop friends. Be careful not to step on the big dog! read more

9/21/19 It gives me no pleasure to do a 180 on my original 5 star review but here it is: I have been waiting 2 1/2 months for Jose, a bike tech in this shop to ORDER, let alone replace a detail he admits he broke off my 1960's Dutch vintage bike, that being the rear reflector. It was Jose who ordered the original reflector made for this bike after much research between the two of us and my paying a shipping charge from Holland triple the value of the part. The irony that it was Jose who broke it off and has now made me wait 2 1/2 months giving me nothing but lip service is off the chart. Jose knows exactly where to get the replacement as it was he who ordered it. I ask and ask and all I get is: "my bad"; "I dropped the ball"; "it's on me"; "I'm going shopping for it next week, " which was said to me this past week. Sad. read more

This place sucks. I wanted it to be good because it's so close to my home. But service is terrible and don't look for gear or supplies here as they have very little inventory. POOR SERVICE Tune-ups are done slowly and incompletely. Sometimes, after leaving the bike for a week or more, I'd return only to wait for them to "finish up" (read: we haven't gotten to it yet.) So they'd put some air in the tires, squeeze the brake levers a couple times, and charge me for a tune up. They don't use a pressure gauge when filling tires. Apparently they feel that their compressor is magic and will naturally find the correct air pressure level, automatically stopping at that point. The bike tech actually said this to me. (Although they didn't say "magic".) GROSS NEGLIGENCE For one tune-up they did nothing other than slightly loosen the stem from the fork. I have no idea why they thought this was necessary, but they let me take the bike without warning. Guess what happened next. SALES & INVENTORY SUCK Last year I cut a tire on my mountain bike. Cycle Bike did not have one in stock (wtf - it's a common item), so they wanted sell me a slick rather than a knobby...WTF? Oh, and the place is a filthy, disorganized mess. read more
