DO NOT purchase a bike from the BikeShop. You are better off buying it online. They do not stand by what they sell. They mislead my wife when they sold her an electric bike. Within a few months there was a recall advising the bike was not to be ridden. I asked for a refund or replacement and I willing to take a loss from or some assistance they simply said not our problem call Specialized. They are quick to take your money not so quick to stand by what they sell. My wife has an electric bike she cannot ride until Specialized figures out a solution. We are now one year in without a bike. I am calling Specialized and considering legal action against the Bikeshop. Buy your bike anywhere but the Bikeshop. read more

The initial customer service was great when I changed the order colour. Quick response and friendly. BUT.. Very disappointed with the quality of this Jersey. It in no way compares to my other rapha core jerseys I have. The fabric feels cheaper, the arm sleeves are tighter and it's finished differently at the hem making them even tighter. The elastic across the back pockets is not a colour match or finished with the same invisible hem as other Rapha jerseys. The band at the bottom of the back is thin and single layer that rolled up when I tried it on. I do not like "The Bike Shop" breast logo in the front. I would not recommend this company without knowing this was old stock or a knock off of a quality product. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it's not the same product I've experienced in the past from other retailers. Now comes the fun part..I filled out a return request and didn't get a response. I tried "chat" which said expect a response within 3 min and it took more than 40 minutes To sum it up: 1) great initial customer service. 2) quick delivery. 3) poor quality product that was not as advertised. 4) slow to follow up on chat. 5) return label was sent after posting a review. read more

Was in search for a GRX 48 tooth chainring, calling every shop in the city, no one could help me. The only option that was given to me was to wait till spring from bow cycle but I had one last shop to call, The Bike shop and so glad I did! Spoke to James and he told me he could have the part in three days and he didn't disappoint. When I went to pick up the chainring (downtown location) I found the customer service to be friendly and prompt. Don't understand the negative comments based on my great experience. This place has been nothing but helpful. From complex issues to my own stupidity they always get me sorted. Went in to get my tire re sealed with sealant, was told I should do it myself!? Who turns business away like that? When I explained the sealant cost 17$ ( and is only good for one tire) and the service with sealant cost 19$ I said I would rather pay the 2 extra dollars then do it myself. Once the employee had my bike I overheard him complaining to another employee using foul language saying "people should fu$&@ do this themselves" Once he was finished the service on my tire, he once again stated I should be doing this myself, I then said, " do you not like your job? Which he responded " I do". Well sure doesn't seem like it. it sucks that this is the main bike shop downtown, and This isn't even my first time dealing with poor customer service there. I don't understand all the negative reviews. The 2 Star rating simply isn't my experience. I'm just an average joe rider, don't spend a lot of money there, and I do a lot of my own maintenance, etc. I've been going to The Bike Shop for almost 20 years. I've never experienced an elitist attitude, not once. I go mostly for parts, gear and repairs - Being a Kona rider I have to buy my bikes from another store and because I live in the deep SE, TBS is simply closer for service, and they know what they're doing. Whether I'm spending $25 for a couple of tubes and some lube, or a full tuneup, I get treated the same... very kindly. Every experience with the bike shop over the years has been excellent. Very nice staff... bike service is very good. I'll continue to be a customer. PS: I'm not much of a fan of Yelp. We came to this store because they had the right bike at the right price, having already tried similar models. It was a previous years model on a closeout deal - perfect!. We arrived at the store 10 mins after opening and approached the sales associate to help find the bike we were after, and he leads he took us upstairs to look which soon became apparent was going to be unsuccessful " I think this one looks like the bike here" I say, "nope that's a 2018" he says. Associate disappears onto the computer for 10 mins, meanwhile I pull the bike out to look at it and compare to the one shown online on my phone (took 30 secs) shows it still available in store. Sales guy comes back, says they sold it 20 mins ago, "urrr..you only opened 15 mins ago, pretty sure its this one" - "no that the 2018". So after finally convincing the associate with the help of their colleague that yes this was indeed the bike they have on sale, we give it a quick test ride and set up and eventually are able to purchase the bike. However I still had to ask about their after care program, 1st service/tune up etc and get handed the flyer with the info. Unfortunately I'm not sure we will be coming back to this place to make additional purchases as compared to the store a little further north West along the river, the service/knowledge just is not on par. Unfortunately the other store just did not have the bike on this occasion otherwise we would have gone straight there instead. Sorry! read more

So a few months ago I bought studded tires ($500) for my fat tire bike at the Bike Shop (11th ave location) . Upon purchased they swapped over the tires for a reasonable price. With warming weather I went back to swapped my tire back again. The person at the desk asked if I had an appt (which I did not) and informed me he didn't have time for the repair today. I fully understood and informed him stated I leave the bike and wasn't in a hurry. He told me he didn't have any room to store my bike. He made no effort to inquire if I would like to make an appt or explanation. I truly felt he did not want my business. When I left the store I went directly to the Bike and Brew in Bridgeland and they offered to swap my tires on the spot while I waited. The customer service experience was truly day from night ... I will not be returning and giving my service to the Bike Shop again. read more

This place is awful! I took in my bike (that was a birthday present) to see if I could have some work done to make it more urban road friendly. When I first went in I was greeted by a pretty nice guy but once he realized I needed the service department he turned me over to a surly service girl. I explained what I was hoping to have done and she just stared blankly at me. Finally she asked me where my bike was and to bring it in. My bike was outside so I went to get it. I struggled with trying to open the door (it pushes in) and get my bike inside. She made no attempt to help me at all. Actually no one did, they all just watched me look like an idiot trying to pull my bike through the little door. Once she saw that my bike was a cruiser it became very clear she had no interest in helping me. She said they only deal in serious bikes (or something like that) and that there was nothing they could do. I asked her three times before she finally agreed to lift the bike up and actually have a look. I left without any suggestions/solutions as to what to do and felt completely mocked and judged. Later when I told some friends they all said they had similar experiences! In summery, this place might be good if you meet their snobby "serious cyclist" criteria but for the everyday cyclist STAY AWAY! read more

Note: I gave this place one star because of the SALES experience not the bike repair experience. I went in here to buy a commuter bike for work. the sales associate was BRIAN and I told him exactly what I wanted in a bike. He took me to a bike and told me he had sold three of them and it would be the best bike for me. I didn't love the style so I found a few other ones that I could ask him about. He wasn't knowledgeable at all and made general statements about different gear set ups etc. I picked out a bike and went to pay... he said I needed a female seat so he reached under the seat cabinet and handed me some random seat that he dusted off from the floor. He didn't fit me for a seat. Nothing. I go to pick out a helmet and I asked if this one comes in other sizes. He said no you just tighten it. He seemed pissed off at this point that maybe I was taking too long or something. I was only there for an hour and barely asked questions because I felt like he was just telling me BS. I asked for a discount on the helmet because it was the last one (the display one) and it was scratched up. He said "NOPE. No because I can sell it to someone who will pay full price for it." Thanks for the snarky comment Brian. I go to pay for everything and show my boyfriend the helmet. He said it was way too big and lo and behold the inside said it was a large. At this point I'm peeved because he didn't even take the time to make sure I was buying the right helmet or giving me correct info when I asked for help. He just kept pacing by the register waiting for his commission. I told him I'll take my money elsewhere for the helmet. The guy who tuned up the bike was amazing. super knowledgeable and friendly. He asked if I was fitted for a seat....NOPE. He got another guy to help me (bearded fellow) and I told him about that arrogant sales rep Brian. He gave me a $120 seat free to put on my new bike, which was nice of him. this man is the only redeeming part of my experience. I spent $1,000 in that store and I was treated like garbage from the sales rep. You'd think they'd show a little respect but unfortunately this was the only place in town that had the bike I wanted. I was made to feel like I wasn't wanted there. It felt like I was being ushered to get my bike and get the heck home asap. It was really uncomfortable and sad for them because I needed bike accessories and I just decided to buy those at a different store. never buying a bike here again. never recommending it. stay away unless you know exactly what you want to buy because you're a bike expert. read more

Love this place. Bought my bike here 4 years ago. Really easy for them to refer back in the system and help me out over the phone. I had my front wheel replaced, and due to covid and lack of parts, the wheel had to be built from scratch. Parts came in really fast and it was done within 4 business days. I found that very impressive during covid. When I called other shops I wasn't even getting through or I was waiting on hold for long periods. First bought a U-Lock from here was great but didn't really have any contact with anyone so was good. Went in to look at helmets checked online had narrowed it down checked their stock to make sure they had it but when I went in they were out of stock of pretty much any helmet that I was considering which was frustrating considering I had checked that. Went in with a friend looking for a bike the Sales guy was really stuck up / arrogant and tried to sell my buddy a bike that was more than he needed. When he asked about a model that was a bit more basic the guy was like "I don't know the lower models you really should just get this one (which was $300 more than the base) he was only interested in pushing him into a more expensive bike. Very poor staff and customer service here not going to come back. read more

Given that I've spent about $20,000 on my mountain bike addiction to date, it's strange that only a few hundred of that has wound up coming from The Bike Shop. It's a funny thing with The Bike Shop. When I was younger I thought the sales guys avoided me because I was a young punk who didn't have any money to spend... And for the most part, they were right, that is until I dropped around $2,800 on a '98 Trek VRX 400, the very beginning to a now 18 year addiction. Who saw that coming? No one. Not even me. But now that I'm in my 30's, have a fair amount of grey hair, and feel like for the most part probably look like I might have money to burn, and on some level it's true, I don't bother going to a bike shop unless I'm there to buy something... the sales guys still don't seem to pay any attention to me. Maybe they can tell that I'm just not interested in Specialized or Rocky Mountain bikes, but for whatever reason the only thing I've picked up from here is a few bike locks and soft goods that I could pick out by myself. I was shopping recently for a new bike. Now, since I am a student with limited income price is very important. With a budget of $800-$1,000 I set out on my search. The Bike Shop was my first stop and I was less than impressed. The stock in the store is very impressive, and the guy who helped me knew his stuff, but I found myself somewhat misled when I was told that there are "no good bikes on the market for less than $1,500." Not surprising that the least expensive bike that The Bike Shop carried, and in the category I was looking for, was $1,500. I left and found a similar bike at Ridley's Cycle in Kensington for $1,000. The same parts as the $1,500 bike, but $500 cheaper. I also found the same at Mountain Equipment Co-op: $990 for a bike with the same parts as the Bike Shop product. For these reasons alone I rate my experience at The Bike Shop as 2/5 stars. read more

In my entirety of riding bikes I have not once had as bad of a purchase experience than dealing with the service staff of this company. Not only was I berated and called a piece of shit to my face. I was forced to wait an excruciatingly long period of time before the cashier was capable of exchanging my purchase (for an item that was defective from the store) explaining that the customers that came in after me "got priority". If a book could be written on how to improperly act towards customers, the staff at this store would win a Pulitzer. As an individual that prides himself in being cordial and friendly to service staff I have never once in my entire existence been disrespected and flat out trashed on for the basic fact that my purchase was defective. I hope the owner of this company has a long chat with his "employees" for the lack of basic human respect and integrity that sadly most of these "bike mechanics" clearly do not have. Unless you have a sincere thing for being berated and called slurs then I highly suggest taking your time and money to any of the other bike shops found within Calgary. Avoid this place at all costs! The service mechanic ( certain one ) blatantly lied to my face. I had to go back twice and file a complaint because both times they gave me the wrong spoke nipple size. And anyone who knows about building wheels knows that nipple size is specific and have to be exact. He gets in my face and says spoke nipple sizes are all standard and disrespectfully talks down to me. So I stood my ground and put him in his place and said if you don't know your job and cant inform customers about the science of bikes you should quit. Totally unprofessional, getting in my face, and no regard for the consumer. Avid cyclists know that building wheels is a science and the mechanics at the bike shop are all amatures and have no clue and disrespecting the consumer is a violation of this service. Bought a Specialized a couple months back. Emily was amazing. Went in not knowing much about bikes, explained what I wanted to do with it and she made the suggestion. Quick and easy. Brought it in a month ago and got them to adjust the chain as I was having issues with it. Did a quick fix on the fly. Overall have had a great experience. Would definitely go back! read more

Because walking in and talking to some one is just like the song lyrics. the bike shop is at the level of all the other LBS's in calgary, selection is poor, only popular namebrands catering to..... normal, vinyl village, weekend MTB'ers with white bikes. That is what is weird about this place, its downtown, road bike territory and its a mtb selection of stuff. Having gotten a couple hundred dollars of work here done- I would only come here to buy the tools and fix it yourself. If you don't want to, if your time is worth more than it costs to fix, all this is irrelevant you have to face the facts you are on your own. Unfortunately, had a very poor experience with the bike shop at their DT location. Bought a new $3500 mountain bike, and the thru axle in the rear popped out on the first ride. Then the tubeless tire would not seat, and the rear shock blew a seal, all in 3 rides. Consensus was that none of the bolts were torqued, and it was built poorly. I took it back and they did give me a great deal on the carbon version ($5,000) of the same bike, and after 2 rides I noticed the caliper was sticking, and the rear tire was not free rolling. I took to my main bike shop, and they told me the rear caliper bracket/spacer was incorrect when it was built. My experience at the south location was also not great. I originally brought the first bike above to have it fixed, and they said they don't carry that brand at that location, and didn't really know how to fix it. Also, when I was looking for a bike for my wife, I was told that the bike I was looking for (GIANT brand) was not good as GIANT had messed up the geometry and was not recommending the bike. I talked to a GIANT rep and was told that was completely false. read more

I am writing this review to highlight my 2nd purchase from this business. I saw online that the store had one last Rocky Mountain Vertex 990 size L in stock at a fantastic price. I wanted it but I didn't have the funds right away. I talked to Brian from the store who was very professional and sympathetic. He offered to put the bike away for me until I could come up with the funds. Brian reassured me that the bike was brand new and would arrive to my house in mint condition if I decided to purchase it. After a few weeks of emails, my neverending questions about this and that; and me constantly badgering him to send me photos of the bike to inspect, I finally did the purchase. I think anyone can attest that spending a few thousand dollars for an online purchase is a nervous and sleep depriving fiasco. However, the bike arrived in about a week as promised, well packaged without a blemish. I was thrilled that Brian went out of his way to find me a cheaper postage service for the delivery of the bike from Calgary to Vancouver. I have two pretty nice bikes now sitting in my garage but if I needed another one, I wouldn't hesitate to buy from this store again. They have an absolutely huge selection that other LBS's can't even come close to, and regularly have discounts on their floor models at the end of the year. read more

I've spent several thousand dollars at this shop (2 high-end Rocky Mountain downhill MTBs, tune ups, accessories, clothes). I've really given them the benefit of the doubt, but their level of service is always "just okay". They never go beyond the bare minimum and there doesnt seem to be any passion in this shop. For this reason, be cautious of their tuneups. Otherwise convenient location if you just need to pick up something while you're downtown. read more

I mostly use these guys for service, due to their location. They are very good, helpful, friendly and usually give good prices for work. If it doesn't need to be done, or some part is just gunked up with mud or whatnot, they'll just clean it off and send me away - no charge. I have been to Cyclepath on Macleod trail a number of times for parts and repairs and always received excellent advice and service from the techs there. Calum really knows his stuff. A sound diagnostician and extremely helpful. Additionally I have never been over sold something and the prices are more than reasonable. I had a very positive experience at this store even though I returned my bike. I purchased a Specialized Crave Comp, the issues came a couple of days after my purchase, everything hurt after one of my usual hour long rides. Elbows, wrists, upper and lower back. I ended up going back and forth on 4 occasions to have different things changed and adjusted on the bike to try and get it to fit me, nothing worked. In the end they took it back no questions asked. Trevor was great to deal with, and the bike mechanics are awesome. Knowledgable and very helpful. They don't talk down on you for not being up to speed on the lingo and technology.
