Don't go in with a bike of any value expecting an honest appraisal. They will tell you there's a dozen things wrong with your bike. "Your frame is cracked and you will hit a bump on day soon, your frame will explode and it will be violent and painful." and, "oh, by the way, we have just the thing to fix your problem. It's only $1,400, only for you, and just for a few days." and also, "we can't stress enough how serious your problem is." I got a second opinion from Sporting Life Bikes on Yonge st. in Toronto, (possibly the most professional, customer friendly bike shop I have been to) There was NOTHING wrong with my bike or frame. I've spent a pile of $'s there in the last two years (a road bike, helmet, shoes, bib shorts, a Wahoo Elemnt Bolt computer, etc., etc.). A couple of weeks ago, I was looking for a trunk mount rack for my car, figured I'd go to the "Zone" in Barrie, as, I'm in Barrie 4 days a week with my job. I had the misfortune to talk to the "manager"? (I think his name is Joe?), anyway, he said that he had an unboxed Saris Bones 3 rack that someone had returned for whatever reason. Okay, I thought that I was saving a few $'s, so why not?. I asked about the racks compatibility with my carbon framed bike, "oh yeah, sure, no problem", was the response I got (there was NO, let me check the company's website to see). A few days later, I, went to the Saris site, and guess what! "the Saris Bones 3 trunk rack" isn't compatible with carbon frames. As far as, I'm concerned, this "Joe" guy is a d**k, and that $200 I paid for the rack, will be the last $'s I ever spend at The Bike Zone in Barrie. read more

They've got a great selection of bikes in their new location, but don't expect great service to go with it. If you buy anything from them, expect to go somewhere else to get service. It seems that as soon as they have your money for any purchase, that's all they care about. They have no care to keep a customer happy. Bikeland, and Black tooth Grin are much better options. If you want a brand that BZ carries, spend the time and the gas to drive to another dealer. You'll be happier in the end that you did. read more

I went to Bike Zone for the first time the other day because it's close to my house and Bike Land has changed its location. I was simply picking up handlebar grips, grabbed a pair and purchased them from the incredibly apathetic staff, which is not necessarily uncommon among bike store staff most places. I went back a couple days later for a new inner tube and tire with my boyfriend who needed the same, as we'd both simultaneously tore them up that week. when we walked in with the proper sizes of tire and tube memorized (I've had the same bike for 10 years and know my tires by now) we were handed tubes that were not the sizes we'd asked for but told that the sizes were completely interchangeable and would make no difference once inside the tire, and being gullible or trusting, we grabbed them and left. my boyfriend received the wrong tire and had to return with me who could not get the tube inside my tire as it appeared too big. We returned for the right stuff and we were told we couldn't get the right stuff unless the guy assisting us could see our bikes. He told us to go get our bikes. Feeling a bit useless fixing our own bikes and naively trusting those who are in the position of knowing what they should be talking about, we went home yet again, got our bikes, threw em over our shoulders and brought em in. When we arrived, they said they didn't have time to fix our bikes, and didn't have the proper tire for my boyfriend even if they did have time (because the parts are extremely rare and our bikes are too old and apparently everyone has newer bikes now) He got a refund on the tire and decided he would go down to Trek and risk getting his bike fixed by someone else (he in fact got his bike fixed with the right stuff and for a lot cheaper by Bike Trek in one trip, on the spot). I didn't want to leave with my tireless bike so begged and finally got one of the guys at Bike Zone to put my inner tube in for me (and apparently i was lucky they had the tire i needed), but not without being lectured about all the things that are wrong with my bike and being told that parts would fall off on my next bike ride and how I'm risking a lot biking out of there without fixing them. A few days later the inner tube popped because it was the wrong size, had the wrong valve, and was put in poorly, so i went over to Trek and had it replaced. The boys at Trek told me that nothing else was wrong with my bike, and no parts were to fall off on my next bike ride, obviously. read more

When I moved to Barrie this was the first bike store that I went to. It had a good variety and carried the brands that I was looking for. I bought a bike from them that was mid-range and cost me around $3800. I have regretted it since. I was very excited to have moved up from my junky sportchek bike that I'd had in my teenage years and be riding a smooth full suspension bike in the huge network of well maintained single track in the surrounding area. I bought the bike in February and they didn't even bother to size me to it. I went to the bike zone expecting good service because I was spending what I consider to be a considerable amount on a bike, however that was not what I received. I should have walked out when I asked an employee behind the counter who seemed to be completely disinterested in helping me how long the bike would be on sale for and his reply in a very condescending tone was "Until it sells". After a very brief "test ride" across the parking lot I decided that I liked the bike. It was not until I took it out for my first few rides that I realized that it was too small. Ever since then I have had to have a longer seatpost and stem with riser handle bars just to compensate for the smaller frame and make it through a ride without my back screaming in pain. After that I occasionally returned to the store to buy things that a piss poor sales persons couldn't fuck up like gloves and water bottles. With the exception of maybe 2 visits to the Bike Zone I have had bad experiences with the staff. With so much competition in the area I cannot fathom why they would ever not enthusiastically greet and server their customers. I took my bike back for a tune up at the start of the subsequent season mainly to have the derailleur aligned so that the shifting was smooth and I was told it would take around a week for a basic tune up. I'm not sure if it was because I was not paying for it because it was the stores policy that bikes purchased from them have complimentary tunes ups for a specified time after purchase or if it was because they had so many other bikes that they wouldn't actually be able to get to it for a few days. Either way when I received my bike back and took it for a ride the shifting was no better or worse than when I took it in and I was still popping gears while riding slowly on flat ground. I decided to bring my bike to MEC and pay for a tune up. They were able to do the tune up and have my bike back to me the next day running like new. I don't know if I was young and naïve when I first went in and gave them my money but I know I will not be returning to them when there are ample other bike stores within spitting distance of their front door. read more

We brought our bike to Bike Zone to have a wheel put on & were talked into a tune up, as a result we were notified that our bike needed brake pads. Over the weekend we received a call informing us that it would be ready for pickup on Monday, we arrived Monday only to find out that they were not open. We went back the following day & were told that the bike was not ready, we got another call telling us that the bike needed more work to fix the brakes. What an overall terrible experience. read more
