The service was pretty slow (even though we were one of 3 tables) but I was more disappointed with the food. Some of the dishes were very good but over all it was over sauced and under seasoned. I ordered the lamb and my mom the steak, both medium rare and the waiter praised us for not just doing well done like everyone usually does. They then brought me a well done dish and my mom a medium done one at best. Most of the food was luke warm or cold and their "takes" on classic recipes in no way improves them. We were very impressed with Toni our server and the meal we had here. We were in town from Atlanta visiting my family and wanted to try something new downtown. We stumbled upon The Bistro walking around and glad we stopped in. We split the Sesame Encrusted Yellowfin Tuna salad and the Lemon Chicken with Artichokes. Impressive indeed. The flavors were outstanding. Both were prepared perfectly to our taste. Both dishes were seasoned to perfection and the portions were abundant. This place is absolutely amazing! 100 percent recommend. We got the crab cakes for appetizer, the famous angus, and the stuffed crab angus. We drank a couple of different drinks. All around amazing! Little pricey but we 100 percent would pay twice to enjoy that type of food. Great date night spot. read more

So I am a business traveler and have literally been all over the world. I've eaten at some pretty outstanding places in my travels and some place that make you wonder how the health department hasn't closed the joint down. My husband and I are foodies too- we have flown places to enjoy restaurant competitions and even to just enjoy a memorable meal together on a special occasion. Well this restaurant is hands down fly-to worthy. I'm still scratching my head why this is in some little town in Georgia for the rest of the country to not enjoy! I would put this place up in the top 5 if not 2 places I have ever dined at. Everything I have eaten there is just a notch above the expectations you would have, from the drink menu to the exquisite selection of entrees to mouth watering desserts. I told my husband that the drunken filet has now surpassed any steak I've ever had anywhere and that even tops Three Forks in Dallas or Pappas Steakhouse in Dallas. Don't leave without trying the bread pudding with homemade caramel sauce. The other reason I simply love this restaurant is the staff. The ambience is just gorgeous. The attention to detail in this restored old space was a delight to see. Nice wood accents, exposed brick, can lights, real hardwood floors. That being said, I really wanted to like this place. I would classify the food as elegant Southern cuisine. After a few tries, I found that consistently, the food was overly salty and not many other flavors. For any of the chicken dishes, they are sauced to the max. This is one of the few fine dining restaurants in Valdosta, GA. The atmosphere is inviting - and warm. It is perfect for a business dinner or a night out with close friends or a date night. They serve everything from vegetarian pasta, seafood, chicken, and the finest steaks. Their desserts change often - but they are always good. The traditional brownie is one of the best I have ever tasted! The drinks are made with high quality liquor and taste great. It is one of the few places that make a dirty martini just the way I like it. Expect to dress up nice and pay enough for it. The only downside to this restaurant is their lunch menu. It is set up as a buffet - which is limited. I am not into southern food so naturally I paid $12 and ate very little. read more

They just started a Sunday brunch - FINALLY what this town needs more of! Menu is extensive and delicious. I've tried both the stuffed French toast and the crab cake benedict. Both are delicious. The prices are totally reasonable. Additionally, mimosas and bloody marys were likewise really good and reasonably priced. I prefer it to the Sunday brunch at Friends. However, be warned, do not come here if you are in a rush. Food takes awhile to come out, but I give them a bit of a break for that since they just started Sunday brunch only a few weeks ago. read more

Parking downtown in Valdosta is no problem at all. I parked a couple of blocks away so I could get a spot which was completely unnecessary. I drove by several times and you can easily find a spot right in front and there is not even a meter. The Bistro was a really nice place. The art was eclectic. Staff was pleasant. The food was good. We ordered a bowl of crab bisque and one of the chicken entrees. The soup was good- not the best I have had, but definitely good. I didn't like the chicken, but my husband did. The prices were reasonable. We saw a wine list and most wines were sold my the bottle and were overpriced, but we didn't order anything. It was a good choice. read more

The Bistro was a wonderful experience. I wouldn't have altered anything, at all. They seated us at 9p, we enjoyed having the whole place to ourselves. We both adored the NY Strip which is the house special. I can easily rave about the food, as it far exceeded my expectations. As far as their other offerings: We started with two apps which were Shrimp and the Oysters Rockafeller. Both were excellent. The sides were extremely fresh, and you could clearly tell that the chef took care in preperation. We didn't bother with dessert due to the time, however we would have otherwise, as the food was absolutely fantastic. We had the opportunity to meet the chef who was personable, and very charasmatic. I truly loved the historic value of the building and the atmosphere it creates. Very romantic. There was a piano player/singer who was lovely. We enjoyed a nice conversation with her, as well. The food was very flavorful, and anyone can tell the quality of ingredients is minded. But the wait was terrible! It took 45-50 minutes just to get our appetizer (yes I counted because I was very hungry). I read a couple of reviews that had the same problem, but I looked past it and went to the restaurant hoping it would not apply to me. But now I know for future reference. I went on a Tuesday night and it was practically empty, with only two other tables occupied. In fact, we joked that there were more workers than diners. The service was good and the portions were plenty big. The menu was fairly basic with 8-10 apps, a few pastas, 3-4 salads and about 15-18 entrees. I think all of the entrees fell into the seafood, chicken or steak categories. I was told that the "Drunken Filet" was the house specialty, but I didn't try it. I had the crab stuffed grouper topped with a tarragon sauce and I finished every bite. The only things that I didn't care for were the dinner rolls, which were definitely not freshly prepared (probably came frozen in a bag) and the vegetables were a little mushy and could have used some seasoning. I can't remember the last time I picked up a salt shaker, but had too this time just to give the veggies a little flavor. My dining companion had the sea scallops and he said they were excellent. The wine list was fine, but not great. Certainly reasonably priced. I had a bottle of White Cloud Chard. for $41 and I think that was the most expensive white wine on the list. read more

If I could give this "zero stars" I would. Absolutely the WORST dining experience of my life. I spent several years working in the restaurant industry, so I feel like I have a firm grasp of the level of customer service a "fine dining" establishment should offer, and I can tell you I've had better customer service at Waffle House than at The Bistro. This was my third and final visit to this horrible establishment. My first two visits were mediocre to poor, but the food is good enough that I thought I would give them one last try. The poor server this time around must have been brand new, and management obviously threw him to the wolves and failed at providing him with the necessary tools or training to succeed as a server. My friend and I waited 45 minutes before receiving so much as a glass of water let alone the two glasses of wine we actually ordered. (Tip: If a server does not know that Pinot Noir is in fact a RED wine, perhaps he's not quite ready to handle a table of his own just yet.) After we spent FOUR hours in the restaurant and only received ONE glass of wine and ONE appetizer, it was obvious to me that management needed to be aware that the reason their restaurant was completely empty on a Friday night was because of the colossaly poor service. However, before I ever stood up from my table to go find the manager, he magically appeard (wonderful, hello sir, I was hoping you'd come ask me how out dinner has been...) but wait, the manager was not only ON HIS CELL PHONE, but holding an appetizer of crab cakes which had been ordered two hours prior. His lack of enthusiasm and basic manners made it clear to me that the management of this restaurant clearly doesn't care whether their patrons choose to come back or not, which was a major disappointment, because the food we did receive--though incredibly slow and inconsistent--was actually quite good. I usually give a poor dining experience serious thought and end up giving the server/restaurant/manager the benefit of the doubt (i.e. they were quite busy, they had a large party in the back, they were short staffed, etc.) but when I saw other bored, lazy servers peeking around the corner and cackling at our server, who was flustered, awkward and oblivious, and when I saw the manager lacking any enthusiasm to the point that he didn't even ask one of his incompetent minions to deliver a late appetizer out of respect for not approaching a paying customer while taking a phone call....I have no doubt in my mind that these people genuinely don't know or simply don't care that their restaurant is a complete and total failure. read more
