The Black Board Bistro provided us excellent food and service when my family and I had dinner there last night. I enjoyed the pre fixe menu concept, and each dish we delightful. The wine menu was limited by the pinot noir and pinot gris we ordered were excellent. I started my dinner with the bistro salad, which had great toppings and a yummy vinaigrette. The second course was ahí tuna totaki, and it was cooked perfectly and had a good sauce on it too. My third course, filet mignon, was cooked perfectly to order, and it was seasoned well. The potatoes it came with had a great crunch too. The Panna cotta dessert was creamy, and I loved the the topping. The waitress and chef were also exceedingly kind and tolerant despite having a difficult person in our party. I would definitely eat at Black Board again and recommend it to my friends and family traveling in the area. It's a culinary gem in the small town of Libby. read more

Used to be the best place for a great meal, great service and good wine. All cooked to order in a nice bistro atmosphere small group tables. Reservations required. Didn't mind the cost as a special treat for a great meal was worth it. Was one of our favorites. But... the last time we dined here, the service was ok to marginal, not first class and our dinner could only be compared to a skillet pasta, no more three or four courses. The only other choice was pizza. RUKM? Still high price. I wrote the owner on our receipt asking if he was going out of business. Haven't been back since as I can't justify the cost of food I could get out of a box. To be fair, it's been over a year since we went here. Miss having a nice place to dine out. read more

Black Board Bistro is one of those places you have been meaning to go, but you just don't get around to it. Now, I am kicking myself because I recently ate the best dinner ever there! They have everything from Seafood to pastas, steaks, and pizza. The portions are huge (I literally ate my leftovers for three meals). Yes, they are a bit pricey compared to other restaurants in the area, but we'll worth it. I can't wait to go back and try the pizza! What a lovely and exciting addition to the dining options in Libby. The Bistro is situated in a charming old cottage that has been remodeled to accommodate a small dining room. When I say small, it's 7 tables so I think you would want reservations as a general rule. While the restaurant is small, the food is not short on quality, presentation or flavor. I had the Mediterranean salad and the Shrimp pasta with smoked tomato cream sauce. I should say that the dish was about HALF shrimp...big 12 count size shrimp. Most restaurants would throw on 3 or 4 shrimp and call it good. Not here. While the dishes are more expensive than the surrounding restaurants I certainly think you get a fantastic value and experience for the money. They also have some a well curated wine list that you should definitely try. The ambiance with vintage jazz playing and the cost rock wall fireplace was beautiful as well. First impressions, not impressed!! The front porch and entry hall could use a good scrubbing. Upon entering, there were 2 people dining in the restaurant. The waitress wanted to seat us by the door, I asked for another table because I would be cold, she seemed bothered by my request. My husband had the filet/shrimp. The broccoli on his plate was burnt. Actually black! Really!!!! My pasta was bland in appearance as well as taste. If you really want to spend $100.00 on dinner, go ahead, but they won't get my $ again. read more

Hard to give any place a full 5, but this place is close. It's something that Libby, my hasn't had in quite a while. It's nice because it's small. There isn't a feeling of needing to be social if you see someone you know because it's a place to "be with who you came with". The food is great! If you are picky...maybe it'll be tough for you to really enjoy your experience. The menu is small and set. No options of simple fries, salad or substitutions here. The meals are unique and delicious. They used to have a tapas night and that was my favorite time. Not sure why it went away, but I loved the chance for multiple options. Many times it's hard to decide on which great meal to choose so tapas was the best!!! read more

Everything about this place was phenomenal. The waitress was helpful and knowledgeable and a delight to be around. The homemade focaccia at the start of the meal is something I dream about, and the meal itself was fresh, flavorful and obviously cooked by a chef who has a passion for food. Gf review. I had my eye on this place for a couple nights while staying in libby. Honestly at first I didn't know it was a date night kind of place, oh well I was going stag. The restaurant sits about two dozen in a converted beautiful old home. Quite a nice warm atmosphere. The menu was small but filled with seafood steak and duck. Fine dining experience. I was not hungry enough for a main dish so I ordered polenta fries and a salad. The fries were more polenta chunks fried and served with a fresh marinara sauce and basil pesto dollop. I had to eat these slowly as they were so good I wanted to extend my tastebuds. The salad as prosciutto, warm goat cheese, and dates. It was a perfect combination. Best food in town! My wife and I travel extensively and consider ourselves foodies. This place is amazing!! Fine dining, and the chef is classically trained! Such a wonderful atmosphere and so cozy! I've been here twice. The first time was shortly after the establishment opened. My boyfriend took me for date night. The first impression was a bit skewed; we drove to the address google gave us and it seemed like it was just a house. There was no sign outside yet. After driving around the building twice, I saw a chef through a window and decided this was definitely the place! I had a chicken dish that was just ok. My BF had the steak dish; his was fairly tasty. The price was a bit steep for what we got, but hey, it was something new and the atmosphere was wonderful! Because it is such a small restaurant, they greet your party by name when you walk through the door; that's pretty cool. A year later, my honey and I decided to try it again. There was definitely a sign out front so you cannot miss it. The atmosphere was wonderful again and the place was pretty packed. The host greeted our party by name and seated us. We waited the normal amount of time for the food to come out. I ordered the fillet and he ordered the fish of the day entree. I definitely preferred my dish; whatever light colored sauce they put on the veggies was AMAZING! I wish I had the recipe. Anyhow, the atmosphere was the same: warm, relaxing, inviting. It's definitely the most high-class place in our area. The food is pretty decent, but I still think it's a bit high for what you get. We will definitely be back again. read more

What a pleasure! We were somewhat skeptical rolling into Libby for our 28th wedding anniversary dinner. Why? Well, frankly we just haven't found much in the North Idaho Panhandle or Northwest Montana area that even remotely qualifies as fine dining. Every time we go out to dine, we leave saying, "We cook better than this at home!" NOT SO TONIGHT. We had a wonderful dinner at the Black Board Bistro. Service was great. Atmosphere was nice... and oh... one of my pet peaves is offensive music or music played too loud. The music in the background was quiet and tasteful, allowing for good conversation over a meal. And the food... WOW. What a surprise. Near perfection. Everything from the salad to the entree was absolutely superb. Black Board Bistro is the first fine dining restaurant to come to Libby. Well worth the wait to have it done right by Chef Seth. I had dinner at the Blackboard on my Birthday. It is an intimate restaurant with a very nice atmosphere without being necessarily "romantic." The level of service is professional without being stuffy. The menu is always fresh, with creative combinations that collectively bring back the olfactory experience of DINING. Chef Seth's experience, creativity and passion in the culinary world really shines, with every plate beautifully presented & prepared. You start off with the fabulous homemade house-baked bread. We ordered two side dishes: Prawns Picatta and the Albondigas (Spanish meatballs-cheese in the middle with a breaded crust) both were outstanding . The portions were very large. My main entree ( Roast Tuscan Herb Chicken ) tender, moist and seasoned to perfection. The pasta/sauce was rich and delicious. You probably won't think you have room for dessert. Take my advise the chefs homemade desserts will top off your night of a great dining experience. The wait staff is very knowledgeable about the menu and made you feel at ease. Just the right mix of attentiveness, but no hovering. Drinks were refreshed, empty plates were removed unobtrusively, and we never felt rushed at all. Was visiting my dad for the week and he took my kids and I to the BBB. Let me tell you, it was AMAZING!! Best hidden gem in Libby!! Wow, what an amazing meal and the chef made Mac n cheese for my son!! I had one of the specials, lobster and shrimp in a red curry sauce and it was delicious!!!
