B E A U T I F U L L A N D S C A P E…read more WOW, this cowboy/rustic/shabbychic event venue is a delight to the eye. The new barn is made from repurposed wood from a train trestle and is unsurpassed in craftsmanship. The bride's room is a little small, might have too many cute pieces of furniture in it to be real functional. All the tables and chairs are relatively new, so they are in great shape. The chairs are different from most venues, and are beautiful. All the tables are an assortment of shapes and sizes, with the bridal party table smack dab in the middle of the immense room. Perfect. there is a permanent built in bar that I have seen in other barn venues too. Good call!! There is a covered area for the caterers to set up a buffet that is nice. The BATHHOUSE, (privy) is small, but cute cute cute. Outside tables offer a pleasant place for guests to mingle and socialize. The parking area is sooooooooooo far away from the barn, that the cutest red and white shuttle wagon pulled by a red truck is in continuous trips. All night. The area for wedding ceremonies is awkward and slightly difficult to get to, as it is slightly hilly. A golf cart type open vehicle is provided for older or non really-that-mobile people. Whew! The area for chair set up is rather uncomfortable as it is on a hill. And the place for the bride, groom , and bridal party is totally uneven and very difficult for bridesmaids to navigate in heels. Standing there for an entire ceremony was difficult to do without feeling like you were going to fall over. Maybe if it was leveled and smooth cobblestones were installed it would make for a more pleasant experience. The remote remote location makes it a little difficult to find. Two dirt roads and a couple miles off the main drag is doable though. Be prepared to drive a long time, and hike a lot. S U P E R B L Y A P P O I N T E D

Hmm. How do you rate a wedding venue located in the middle of small town nowhere? On the one hand…read morethis is a scuzzy old facility. But on the other hand, it's the best bet you can find in Detroit Lakes and probably in surrounding Fargo. Well, we dressed it up just fine and partied all night! So here we go: The outdoor space is fine. Just setup your wedding backdrop away from the weeds and power lines. Stick closeby to the tree swing which is GORGEOUS. Clearly, that's the money maker spot. The bathrooms were pretty clean. The kitchen was fine but had sticky dirty spots on the counter and drawers. Gross. The full size refrigerator is huge and very handy for your leftovers, drinks, cake, etc. The massive sink is also helpful. Cuz "you gotta clean it all up" is the motto here. There is ample bar counter space for setting out food or a real full beverage bar. The wood paneling came straight from the 90s. The outdoor porch is comprised of assorted run-down patio furniture. The smokers hang out here and don't seem to care much. I wouldn't put my nice patio furniture out here either in this crowd. (sorry but just sayin!) Inside, the fireplace and mantle is great because it adds character and prevents this space from feeling too 'boxy.' Decor is minimal and the lit trees are pretty cool at night. And the owner has plenty of tables and chairs so no rentals are needed. We had a 'small' issue with the owner at first. I think it all worked itself out and he turned out to be a real nice guy. Alrighty then. I'd say this is probably the best unpretentious slim budget option in town.

I wanted to rewrite our review of The Barn at Dunvilla to give a more complete picture of our…read moreexperience. I deleted my previous review on my own accord because it only focused on the issues, which wasn't entirely fair. First, our wedding day was truly magical and beautiful. The location itself is stunning, and our photos turned out absolutely wonderful. The bridal suite is spacious and well-designed -- it was a great space to get ready in and spend time with my bridal party. The venue host did an excellent job. Anything we needed, he handled quickly and professionally. Several of our guests even commented on how smoothly things went. The venue also provides a chair ramp for handicapped guests, which was appreciated by those who needed it. One of the biggest positives is the flexibility -- the venue allows you to customize your day and make it your own. They also let us have our rehearsal there at no additional cost and allowed us to set up early, which made the entire weekend much less stressful. The venue is reasonably priced for everything it offers, and we appreciated being able to use their décor, which saved both time and money. The owner is pleasant to work with in person. That said, communication during the planning process could have been better. After we paid our deposit to reserve the venue, we had to reach out multiple times over the course of several weeks to get responses to some basic questions. Our DJ also had questions about the sound system and tried reaching out multiple times without hearing back. I asked a couple of times for the venue to contact our DJ directly, and they did so the last time I reached out. When you're planning one of the biggest days of your life, it can be stressful not to hear back in a timely manner. Another area that could be improved was the alcohol setup. The venue is affiliated with Spanky's, which is the only bar service allowed. We were a bit disappointed by that restriction, as we might have chosen a more affordable option otherwise. We pre-ordered through Spanky's knowing our families would be big drinkers, and the required gratuity was over $500 before any services were provided. We would have preferred the opportunity to tip based on service. The day before our wedding, the venue owner mentioned that we should move our honeymoon fund jar so it didn't "compete" with the bar's tip jars. We weren't aware that tip jars would be out for the liquor items, as we felt what we tipped was already generous. The day of the wedding, the tip jar also wasn't labeled to indicate what had already been pre-tipped. Had we known, we could have made a sign explaining what was already tipped. On our wedding day, the bar staff ended up moving our honeymoon fund jar off the bar, and unfortunately, we didn't receive any contributions to it. Afterward, I reached out to Spanky's directly, and the owner was very understanding and made things right. He also said he would look into solutions to prevent this from happening to other couples in the future, which we truly appreciated. Overall, The Barn at Dunvilla is a beautiful and accommodating place to celebrate a wedding. While there were a few communication and coordination issues along the way, our day itself was everything we hoped it would be, and we're grateful for the memories made there. They did apologize for the communication issues after the wedding, which we appreciate.
